you should have read about it before hand, in order to get into the castle you have to be on, or done with the rank3 mission from your home town. Once you start that mission you get a letter to take to the embassy in each of the other cities. Once you give them the letter in sandoria, they tell you to go into the castle to talk to some random person about the mission. After getting to that point you can enter the castle any time you wish.
Might want to make a note...

This wasn't noted here but there's a person outside the catherdal you should talk to the here "the rumor." I did this quest and Novalmauge asked if I believed the rumor or not and had no idea what he meant.

BTW choose "Never!" aka you do not believe the rumors.

I did this at level 13

Hume - San d'Orian - Rank 2.0

I had to fame-up myself with:

27 Rabbit Hide
50 bat wings*

* as a younger player i may have done about 6 turn ins before trying to fame-up for this scroll:Drain quest, so take that into account if you're a hume and doing this quest fresh off of level 12.

when using the fame checker how do you know if you've reached lv 30?

I am from bastok - Rank5 to get the quest I bought 3 stacks of bat wings and 3 stacks of rabbit hides and turned them in for the repeatable quests. My fame was then high enough to get the quest

Bat wings - 2.5k a stack
Rabbit hides - 1k a stack
Cost - 10.5k
Return - 5k rounded off
Im confused
# Feb 12 2004 at 4:03 AM Rating: Decent
Hmm im from windurst, does my fame have to be high in sandoria to do this quest, or can I have high fame in windurst and none is sandoria and still do it?
RE: Im confused
# Feb 19 2004 at 12:02 PM Rating: Decent
You need high San D'Oria fame to do it. Windurst, Bastok and Sandy fame (not to mention Selbina, Jeuno, Mhaura and the rest of the cities) are all separate, although there are a few quests that will give fame to multiple nations/towns.

Short answer to your question is: No, your Windurst fame will not help you.
yes no?

'the sweetest things'
# Feb 09 2004 at 12:42 AM Rating: Default
fyi, it takes about 25 stacks of honey to do enough 'the sweetest things' quests to get enough fame to do this quest. i bought them for about 800 gil at bastok and dragged them all the way up here, and it was hell.

phydeaux, fairy server.

*sigh* I've done only 5 non-repeatable quests, but I've done 24 repeatable quests and Novalmauge just tells me 'If you don't have business here then go away' or something along those lines. I'm sandorian and rank 2, any ideas why he won't talk?

Repeatable?
# Jan 27 2004 at 5:51 PM Rating: Default
Is this quest repeatible?

I would assume not, otherwise drain would have dropped in value at the AH. I dunno.
where is teh NPC ?

He is located slightly NE of the entrance to the castle. Go down the stairs. when in the prison, go straight until u get to the first right. He is walking down this hall.
Pretty easy

You can get the blood at the AH. It only cost me around 600g, and The scroll was worth 15k in the AH. Very nice.
Drain
# Jan 24 2004 at 4:48 PM Rating: Default
I used this page to get Drain and it was very helpful. I acutally made 8000 gil doing this quest however. I farmed the Bat Wings and Rabbit Hides myself. I got the Rabbit Hides in East Ronfaure. I went to Ranguemont Pass (North of Easat Ronfaure) and killed bats until i had several stacks of Bat Wings. IT took me probly 10hours of gameplay to get them all. I was a lvl 30 war at the time gettin Drain for my lvl 10 drk

Here are the facts (not to say that there aren't any here already):

You can check your fame by talking to Namonutice, located at the Lion Spring Inn (K-6) in Southern San d'Oria.
When he says "Ah, <name>, I often here people speak well of you! Your deeds for the kingdom have earned you much honor!", then you have enough fame to complete the quest.

This required 5 stacks of bat wings (30 quests) used in the "Fear of the Dark Quest" (Secodiand, F-6, Northern San d'Oria), and 5 stacks of rabbit hides (20 quests) used in "The Merchant's Bidding" quest (Parvipon, E-8, Southern San d'Oria). Note that I did not check my fame between the fourth and fifth stacks of rabbit hides, so it might not require as many. I got impatient with checking my fame every two minutes.

All in all, here is what I spent money on:
-Beastman's Blood (2000 gil, AH. Other->Beastmade)
-Bat Wings (2000 gil, AH. Materials->Alchemy)
-Rabbit Hides (800 gil, AH. Materials->Leatherworking)
Total: 16k

Note that the quests give you 100 apiece for the bat wings and 40 apiece for the rabbit hides. So depending on server prices, one quest or the other might be better for you.

All in all, I made 6k from the turnin of batwings, and 2.4k from the turnin of rabbit hides, so my total net cost for the quest was 7.6k.

On top of that, my San d'Orian fame is pretty good, and I'm sure that will help me out with my Jeuno fame as well, for gobbie bag quests.

But anyways, once you do have the fame, if you aren't from San d'Oria, you need to have mission 2-3 (The Emmissaries), and speak to your Consulate (Not sure what to do in the event you are a San d'Orian). He will send you to Chateau d'Oraguille, which is where the dungeon is located. Look on your map to get to the dungeon, it isnt marked, but it is the only set of stairs that I saw, slightly NE of where you enter. Once in Bastonieux Oubliette, make your first right and you will find Novalmauge in the hall.

Good luck, hope this helps someone!

The beastman blood is under the Other > Beastmade category, the quest is given by someone down in the dungeon of the Chateau, once you enter the Chateau (have to be on mission 2-3 and spoke to your consulate if not from sandy) turn right and then left down to the dungeon, when you enter the NPC is walkin round in the passage way I believe to the right of the entrance. With lev 2 sandy fame I couldnt get the quest, just bumped up to lev 4 (12 repeats of the honey quest) so Id assume I can get it now.

It took me 23 unique quests completed before he would ask for the blood. I kept trying between every other quest, and it wasn't until the 23rd that he would give it to me. A pain, but well worth it, since this and another quest allowed me enough fame for the 2nd teamwork quest.
what i think abotu drain
# Dec 24 2003 at 6:08 PM Rating: Decent
i just bought it in sandoria for 15,000 gill cause i couldnt find the guy but its not worth it till you get about 35 im thinking. im 18 and it only drains about 4-8mp. the wait time to use again is 60 secs. my dark magic is about 41 also. could be a good item for higher lvls but save ur money and get blizzard if your low lvl like me.

I'm Rank 2-2 San d'Oria, level 30WAR/15THF. I can get in the castle, but when I talk to Novalmauge he tells me, "Those without business here should be on their war. That means you."

What's up? The guy said I was famous, so I am clueless as to what I should do.
Cant get the Quest

RE: Cant get the Quest

This is how I attained the scroll...I was in South San D'Oria minding my own business at the AH, when a Tarutaru sends me a message asking for help on getting the scroll. He wanted to know if I had enough fame so I could help. At that moment I had only completed all rank 1 missions and hadn't even begun rank 2. To make a long story short I wasn't famous enough to get the quest so what the Tarutaru suggested for me was to buy about three or four stacks of 12 bat wings and to trade two at a time, to someone in Northern San D'Oria who needs them to ward off an evil presence in the air. Location of that person should be E6 in Laborman's Way. In return you are given 200 gil for the two bat wings every time you trade.I bought the stacks of bat wings at the Auction House of course. After that whole process the Tarutaru and I went back to the Chateau and in the dungeon where Novalmauge is. I talked to him crossing my fingers and WOOO HOOO..cut scene. he asked for the beastmans blood (which the I had) and he gave me the Scroll of Drain. I didn't really need the scroll, I was just a level 9 red mage at the time. Just helped out of the kindness of my heart. Needless to say after I got the scroll the Tarutaru was like "Gimme gimme the scroll PLEASE". Wow someone was desperate huh? We traded then he thanked me many times and warped back to his home point. You probly dont need to do all that but should find a quest that you can do over and over.

That's a pure and simple lie. Windurst is currently number 1 in Kujata and there is NOT a vender that sells Warp OR Drain. I have searched high and low.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 18 2003 at 9:48 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Bah, starting in Windurst is better becuase they have the Aspir scroll which is WAY better then drain, also have telport-mea. You can also get rich there by killing crawlers for silk^^
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 12 2003 at 7:54 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Why the hell is this scroll all the f-ing way over in San' Doria? Isn't windhurst the City of magic? anyway, I am still working on this damn scroll....
RE: why the hell?
# Dec 14 2003 at 1:24 AM Rating: Default
Each city has a "rare" scroll that can only be aquired via high fame quest. Bastok's BLM scroll is warp.
