How much does it do?
# Dec 11 2003 at 4:40 PM Rating: Default
Hey there,

I'm Rank 3, from Wind, and about to start fame farming to get the Drain Spell. I'm a WHM ex profesio, with a BLM sub, so my question is: is it worth my time to get the spell to use, or to sell, as I have the Cure line already? That is, does the Drain spell offer better self-cure per MP or less than the Cure line?

Thanks,

Kabniel, 28/13 WHM/BLM, Bismark

As whm main, probably better off selling. With high dark magic skill I drain about 80, which is pretty good considering I don't need to heal myself and do that much damage with a cast.
Windurst Needs to be Number One!

See, this is the reason that everyone needs to transfer their citizenship over to windurst!! WINDURST MUST BE NUMBER ONE!!
Chateau.
# Dec 09 2003 at 1:58 PM Rating: Decent
How to enter the Chateau.

If you are from San d'Oria you need Rank 2 or better.

If you are NOT from San d'Oria you need Rank 3.

RE: Chateau.
# Dec 15 2003 at 9:43 AM Rating: Default
Actually, if you are Bastokan or Windurstian you may enter the Chateau as long as you started mission 6. It does not have to be completed to enter.

some new info
# Dec 05 2003 at 2:19 AM Rating: Default
Here is a little tidbit that i dont think is posted here. I am from windhurst, completed the three kingdoms quest, and am still able to go into the chateau. Good to know, since i thought that you might not be allowed in after you have completed the quest! :)
It isn't so bad
# Dec 04 2003 at 10:43 PM Rating: Good
Okay.. here's what a friend and I did.

We're both Tarutaru lvl 18. All out Windurstian. We traveled to San d'Oria and did the rabbit hide and batwing quests like a bagillion times (added up I think I did over 40 quests). After that, the guy in the Lion Springs Tavern said we were famous. We then went back to Windurst, because the only way we were ever going to be allowed into the Chateau was if we were doing Mission 2-3/Mission 6 (The Three Kingdoms). Got the required Mission, went back to San d'Oria, and I got the quest. Nothing too hard about it...

Unless you count the 2 grueling days of collecting batwings and rabbit hides.. but just learn from our mistakes and come to San d'Oria with a good amount of cash and just buy stacks of them at the Auction House.

Hope this helps!

I just did what he wrote above. I'm a rank 3 BLM from Bastok. Got the drain quest after doing the bat wing quest 10 times and the rabbit hide quest 8 or 9. Bought the blood at AH. Gave to the vampire. Got the scroll.
Rank question
# Dec 04 2003 at 10:08 AM Rating: Default
Im BLM 12 from Windurst and Im doing mission 2-1, Can I enter the chateau?? Or do I have to be doing the emissary mission (2-3)... Is rank 2 enough (of course after getting all the fame needed)... I was going to make the on foot trip from Windurst to San d'Oria (though mhaura), but if I cant enter the castle I wont bother
RE: Rank question
# Dec 04 2003 at 6:11 PM Rating: Default
Eh. Don't bother.

I made the trip at level 18, mission 2-1, did a ton of non-repeatable quests, then about 10 stacks of bat wings, continually getting insulted by the gate guard.

Went to the inn, talked to the bard, verified that I'd brought great honor to the kingdom or whatnot, and then went home.

You -CANNOT- get drain this way without either having rank 2 IN san d'oria, or being on mission 2-3 and having 2 san d'orian ranks worth of local fame.

Anyone have any idea what regions have to be controlled to get this to show up in Windurst?

Ok, here what i did.

I bought the Blood from the Aution House. Its about 2k. Talked to the vampire guy. It then went to a cut seen and he then told me about the blood he needed. So i forked over the blood and gained the scroll. Simple enough.
Im rank 2, lvl 14 BLM and ive finished alot of quests. As everyone has said before, its a MUST to have the town know you, otherwise the vampire tells you to do away.

Hope this helps.
Sigh...

I guess I have to go back to Windurst and get mission 6.
Possible for Windurtians?
# Dec 01 2003 at 2:38 AM Rating: Default
Mission 6(?) for Windurst, Three Kingdoms, requires that you go to Bastok and San d'Oria. If you go to San d'Oria (Not sure if order matters. I did it first) and talk to the consulate there, you can get into the castle area and the NPC who starts the quest. I currently dont have enough fame in San d'Oria, so I couldn't get the quest, but there is a chance that you dont NEED to be rank 2 in San d'Oria.
However, I don't know if being rank 2 in San d'Oria is still a requirement just to get the quest, or if you just need fame & lvl 12. Also, after the San d'Oria part of the mission is done, I suspect you wont be able to get into the castle anymore. Though, I haven't tested that either. If someone can conferm any of these thoughts, that'd be helpful.
RE: Possible for Windurtians?
# Dec 04 2003 at 3:29 AM Rating: Default
I have now confermed it. I am a lvl 18 BLM from Windurst- rank 2. At the time I was doing mission 6 (rank 2 mission 3 I think). That required that I was allowed access into the castle. What I have actually confirmed is that yes, Windurstians can get the quest. Also, though the NPCs inside the castle walls seemed to want me out for good, I was still able to get back into the castle after finishing the local mission. So now I have drain.
Another small bit of information: As for fame- there is an NPC in the tavern in S San d'Oria. Depending on your fame he has different reactions ("Never heard of you", "Might have heard of you", "I hear your name often...", and possibly somehing after that). It took quite a long time of questing to get enough fame, but I was constantly checking both that NPC and the quest giver. You have enough fame for the quest when the NPC in the bar "hears your name often".
How do you get in...
# Nov 30 2003 at 11:25 PM Rating: Default
I stayed all night increasing my fame, and finally I became famous in Sandoria.
Now when I try go in, the guard won't let me.
Help? =S

P.S. I'm lv25blm/11whm from Windurst.

If i knew that starting from windurst would ***** me like this... then id just start from san. or bastok... that sux
here are the facts
# Nov 28 2003 at 10:18 PM Rating: Default
Half the information here is udder and completely CRAP...2 thirds maybe. looks guys here is the skinny on how to do this.

First you have to get into the castle, which means as a sandorian you just complete the three missions for rank 2. you can now freely enter. aperently you can do these missions at about 6-7 level. but you'll need someone to spot for ya.

then you do quests, now there might be other ways to get this moron to talk to you, but the easiest is to do repeatable quests, they work, and work fast. bat wings, rabbit hides, and flint stones are the best. do them by sets and check every so often at the pub. when they guy there says your famous (tall elf dude at the table, not the bard) you can go get the drain spell.

If your from windhurst, you cant do it. there no way i found they gona let you in. however, bastok can.

so there is it is, simple. if anyone tells you different, its crap (or more complicated, most likely there are multible conditions to recive quests). hell you dont even need to be level 11 to do the save the children mission, unlike the site says. off hand it costs me about 6k for materials to do the quests. but then if i wanted to spend time there is a bunch of rabbits outside the door, they drop skins all the time.
The quest.

Since most people seem to have already done quests for San d'Oria before, I will post mine.

Started from scratch: Rank 2 Bastok, ZERO quests done in San d'Oria. Did 8 stacks of Bat Wings, 2 stacks of Rabbit Hides. Total of approximately 10k gil spent, including the last 2k on the vial of beastmen blood. Prices will obviously vary on different servers.
Here's my info on how i got quest.
# Nov 27 2003 at 12:58 PM Rating: Default
Ok. I finally got quest after 17 other quests and multiple rabbit hide/batwing repeats.

Lvl 13 BLM, rank 2, sandoria at the time.

[Orange]For me, I didn't check between doing my 17th quest, and then giving 3 sets of bat wings and 2 sets of rabbit hides before checking fame with Nomajuice.[Orange]

So i cant say the exact turning point, whether it be new quest number or total quest including repeats. I did a lot of repeats previously too...so i would definately say i was up around 30 total quests, including repeat at the time.

Fame
# Nov 23 2003 at 5:34 AM Rating: Default
The Tavern npc that tells you your fame level is the key, keep checking him. At 12 san'doria quests completed I was not well known yet, after getting to 15 I was still not well known. I gave in and bought several stacks of items to turn in for one of the repeatble quests, after turning all the items in I checked again and was well known. Vampire quest npc gave me his quest finally, and then nouvalmage did as well
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 21 2003 at 12:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You guys realize that if Windurst is in rank one for the conquest, you can just purchase this spell for around 1k gil from the spell shop in the port right?

There IS a scroll of warp that IS sold by the war warlock in Windurst for conquest points. However I have heard this is a one time use only scroll. Can anyone confirm or deny that?
RE: Easier than this.....
# Nov 30 2003 at 5:11 PM Rating: Default
The scroll of wark sold by gate guards in ANY country is one time use only. You can get a scroll of warp from the guy in the Darksteel forge (or somewhere in the Metalworks, check the Bastok quests) easily enough. I had it long before level 17. The gate guards offer the one time use scrolls of warp so anyone can get around the tedious task of walking for hours RL time.

RE: Easier than this.....

I just double checked. This is not true. Drain is not sold at the magic shops.
RE: Easier than this.....
# Nov 26 2003 at 12:10 AM Rating: Default
Alright the information IS true, but it is more complicated than I first thought. Windurst must be number one, and must own certain regions. I have a screenshot of the boat shop in Windy Port selling Warp AND Drain in the mid 1k range if anyone needs proof. At this time however Windy is in 1st place again but we only have warp not drain so it must beb region specific. The info in the instruction manuel confirms this in regards to opening trade routes.

Official requirement
# Nov 21 2003 at 6:11 AM Rating: Default
The official requirement is the completion of 30 seperate quests from San doria. I spent a week questing and I did 25 seperate quests and he would not accept me (I'm rank 2, level 25 from Windhurst). I doubled up on some repeatable quests (about 5) and he still wouldn't accept. If you repeat a quest your fame only gradually increases whereas a new quest gives you more fame (Ihate magic flyers). I repeated about 5 more and he would finally accept (maybe repeated quests give half fame). Lizard skins/sheep skins and rabbit skins and flints are all repeatable, find whats cheapest or easiest to get and redo them OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
Another note is that when oyur fame increases a level Hanaa punaa (?) will give you a different quest, from sheepskins-->lizard skins-->tiger skins.
RE: Official requirement
# Mar 15 2006 at 11:59 AM Rating: Decent
This has nothing to do with the number of quests completed. Each quest gives u a certain, different amount of fame. The lower quests give u less fame than the higher, more difficult quests. To get this quest, u have to be at least rank 2 and have enough fame so the fame dude in the Lion Springs Inn says u are well-known.
Finally got Drain
# Nov 20 2003 at 10:34 PM Rating: Default
OK, I can confirm without a doubt that fame DOES play a role in aquiring this spell. I'm a citizen of San d'Oria and am currently rank 2, level 12. I kept checking with the guy at the tavern until he said that I have brought great honour to the kingdom (or somesuch) with 17 quests completed. 16 could be the minimum, I checked with 15 done, and I still wasn't well known, handed in my 16th and 17th quests then went and I got the good news. And I went to talk to Novalmauge and guess what, I FINALLY GOT THE QUEST. So yay? I hope this helps everyone. My advice to you is to go through the San d'Orian quest lists and do the ones with components easily purchased, or are not too difficult. Happy hunting, hope this clears things up.
