Summary

Bring some Derfland humus to use as fertilizer so that flowers might grow in the late queen's garden.

Description

You need to examine Queen Leaute's Grave in Chateau d'Oraguille and then talk to Chalvatot, who is nearby, to get the quest. He wants you to get a Derfland Humus to help him maintain the Queen's garden. This drops from Doom Scorpions in the Crawler's Nest.

You get fame in an area by completing quests there (or NPCs based in that area). Do quests in Bastok for Bastok Fame, Windurst quests for Windurst fame, etc. Jeuno fame is based on a combination of the 3 main cities, and quests there give you fame in all three. Having a higher fame makes NPC merchant prices lower and allows you to get the quests with better rewards. Read this guide for more details.

Rank is basically a way to identify how far along you are in the main storyline.

I tried to get this quest with lvl 4 San d'Oria fame and could not get it. I had acheived my San d'Oria fame almost solely from doing the Selbina Sheepman turnins. I had only completed 4 quests in San d'Oria at this point. I ran around and completed 4 more newbie quests in San d'Oria and when I came back he gave me the quest. So that's my take. I think you have to have a certain number of quests done in San d'Oria (more than 4, and 8 or less) to get it, along with having the fame.
It works

One of the older posts is correct in that you must talk to the gardener 1st. Then examine the tomb. Then talk to the gardener again. Good luck ^^

If you can get screwed getting this mission, is there another way to get the map? Also are there more missions that you can ***** yourself out of, just by talking the the wrong things first? I think I did it wrong when I was just starting the game... FF teaches us to talk to every body first. How am I suppose to know from all those years of training and condintioning to look at the items first

I was level 4 fame in San d'Oria, rank 3 in Windrust. Had done the Growing Flowers quest. Could not get this quest. Traded tons of moss and corn in Selbina. Still nothing. From reading posts decided what I really needed was to have done one other quest in the Chateau (I had done no others starting there). Looked for the quickest. Completed The Rumor, by buying beastman blood required for that one at AH, got my Drain scroll (now that I had fame for that from all the trading in Selbina) and when I went back to Her Magesty's Garden quest it activated with no problem.
this map is great

Everyone should take 2 minutes to do this quest...beaucedine glacier is so annoying without a map. I know 75's that still haven't completed this easy quest and are always asking for me to guide then through the glacier :P...just do it.

OMG this quest is entirely Fame related, after wasting hours trying different methods to be able to get the quest I decided to level my fame in Sandoria by trading in Million corn for the quest "Only the best" in Selbina, after a few stacks (bought from the Argoneu vendor) I was able to get this damned map quest.
my own experience

There seems to be a slight error in the description of this quest.
To recieve the quest, you must talk to first talk to Chalvatot, then examine the tomb, then talk to Chalvatot again.
Hope this helps ^.^

Confirmed. I checked the tomb first, then talked to Chalvatot, and he told me to go away. Checked the tomb again, talked to Chalvatot, and got the cut scene. Woot! I just love a bright shiny new map. Now if I could just figure out how to fold it.

Your problem probably lies in the fact that this quest doesnt care if you have hero fame in either Bastok or Windurst, its a San D'orian quest...

I currently have high fame in Sandy but I talked to him first instead of examining the tombstone. Now all he says is that he is busy and doesn't want to deal with me. I've tried to clear all quests involving the Chateau...didn't work. Tried to zone and come back....didn't work. I saw the first cut scene with the queen or princess but now he won't even acknowledge me. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!

I'm from windy and tried to get this quest with rank 4 and fame 4 in sandy, but no luck.
I had 9 sandy quests completed (fame with bat wings), and then did two more (flyers for regine and the trader in the forest) and then he gave it to me, so i supose you must have at least 10 non-repeated quests completed before getting it.
Now i'm looking for derfland humus but there isn't one in sandy AH today. >_<

Fame Issue

For the people who are having problems getting this mission, do not dispare. I tried several times without success to get this quest. Recently I raise my fame to level four and was able to get the mission. If you did not check the tombstone first, just zone out and back in, then try again. The reason you need rank two obviously is to be able to enter Chateau d'Oraguille. My character is from Windurst, so you do not need to be from San d'Oria. And yes you can buy the Derfland Humus from the AH. I hope this and the others' post will help you.

Sorry if there has been some confusion. I have been going by Tekkub's "Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Fame" guide. Level four San d'Oria fame means you have 30 or more fame points toward San d'Oria. You know you have the fame when Flaco (Steaming Sheep Tavern, K-6) say "your name! You have become well known in these parts! I hear much of your accomplishments. Keep up the good work, and greatness lies in your future." I personally find that the repeatable quest give me about 1/2 point of fame and non-repeatable quest give a point of fame. As to which quest to do? Do all the ones you want that you can get :)p A few suggestions are "The Merchant's Bidding", "Fear of the Dark", "A Taste For Meat", and "Exit the Gambler". There are other good quest in San d'Oria. I encourage you to check them out here at ffxi.allakhazam.com.

I did check the tome stone before talking to Chalvatot, and only talked to him once. If you feel you have to talk to him twice, go ahead, what is there to lose? Just remember persistance is the key and good luck! Smiley: grin

Fame Issue
# Oct 17 2007 at 11:47 PM Rating: Decent
Informative post, thank you! Only one slight correction- the NPC for fame in San d'Oria is Namonutice, at K-6 in Lion's Springs Tavern in South San d'Oria. Flaco is the NPC for checking Bastok fame. Good suggestions on quests. For cheap repeatables, 'Fear of the Dark' is great. I'd also suggest 'Starting a Flame' and 'The Merchant's Bidding'. Of course, there's always the old fallback for both Bastok and San d'Oria fame, 'Only the Best' in Selbina. If, you know, you're feeling particularly desperate or masochistic.
hopefully this will help

This is a helpful quick reference to obtaining the Key Item: Map of the Northlands Area

The map covers the Beaucedine Glacier and Xarcabard

It is gaained from the quest 'Her Majesty's Garden'

Items required for completing the quest: a single Derfland Humus (which I purchased from the Auction House [Others => Miscellaneous => Derfland Humus {1500-200 gil on gilgamesh server}])

You must be able to enter Chateau d'Oraguille to receive this quest. Once inside, proceed to F-7 on the map.

When you make it to F-7, examine the 'Tombstone' first. After checking the tombstone, turn around and speak with 'Chalvatot'. When you first speak with him, he will say "Me name's Chalvatot. I be the gardener here, you see. Blah blah blah blah blah....." Anyway, the important part is you need to speak with him a SECOND time to get the quest (and cutscene, which signifies the start of the quest)...rather than coming on here and complaining that he didn't give you the quest... (/endrant)

If fame is an issue, try repeating the 'Only the Best' quest several times in Selbina.

Also, i'm fairly certain you must have begun mission 2-3 and at least talked with your embassy (if you aren't from San d'Oria) just to enter Chateau d'Oraguille. However, since I completed this and the Drain Scroll quest at the same time as a Rank 5 Bastokan with high San d'Oria fame, i cannot tell you for certain. maybe someone who is certain will be kind enough to reply to this post.

Anyway, i hope this helps, rather then having to sort through millions of posts complaining they couldn't get the quest.... (/endrant....again)

Very good post. I don't think that you have to have started Mission 2-3 if your not from San D'Oria to be able to get into the Chateau d'Oraguille, even though I am from Sandy, because as soon as you get Rank 2 you should be able to enter the Chateau. I don't think SE would have made things that biased when they made the game.

Oh and while your doing this quest you should also look into the drain quest, even if its for profit :p

When i entered the chateau , i went and clicked on the tombsone at f-7 , then turned around and spoke to the gardner , no luck with getting quest. So i click tombstone again and spoke to him again , he mumbled something about not having any open quests for "royality" (i forget the exact word but you know what i mean) . So i assume i need to complete the fit for a prince quest first . Also the growing flowers might help ..

I did this quest last night. I think there are at least three prerequisities required, but I am not certain of the exact minimum levels. Here is my list of conditions that seemed to allow the quest.

Windurst Rank:5 (3 is the minimum, I suspect)
Windurst Fame:6
San D'oria Fame:5
Completed: Growing Flowers quest
Examined Tombstone
Talked to gardner -> Told basically 'shut up & go away'
Talked to gardner again -> cut scene to start quest

After I got quest, I headed on down to Southern Sandy AH, bought the Derfland Humus (2,200 about 30 in stock), came back and traded it in for another cutscene. After that cut scene finishes, you get the fanfare and the map.

Hope this helps

Go into the castle (Chateau d'Oraguille). It is conected to North Sandy. Then look at the map, its in the upper right corner of the map.

Hope that helps =)
