Description

Eperdur needs your help to heal the land. There is a bad presence in the air flowing out of Gusgen Mines and on to the Crag of Dem. Eperdur wants you to seal of the source by replacing the Banishing Seal.

Walkthrough

After speaking to Eperdur, head to the Gusgen Mines and go north in the middle passageway, continue down the stairs, and use the middle lever to open the middle door. Proceed through. Go straight and down some stairs again, where you will come to a similar room. This time, take the left (west) door/lever combo. In the next passageway, just keep taking lefts until you come to a hole in the ground. You will now be in a large area (with bombs that agro to sight and magic), go to a shed (bottom left corner of G-8). There will be a ??? on the back wall of the shed. (There are other ??? points in this room, make sure you have the right one.) Examine it. It will give you a message that you have replaced the seal. Return to Eperdur for your reward.

Note: Almost all of the monsters in Gusgen Mines aggro to sound, except Bombs that come later on in the final room which aggro to Magic and Sight.

This was the last of the 3 teleport quests I had to do. I did it as a 36 whm / blm. I got the fame for this quest by trading 50 stacks of millioncorn to Meylon in Selbina, bought the millioncorn off the regional vendor in bastok for about 46-50gil per corn.

I completed all these quests without any help (aside from a generous donation of gil for fame building purposes) so I'd like to share my experience with holla for any other 36 WHM's (or any job) out there attempting this alone.

Now I already had teleport-dem in my spell ******* and I walked to Gusgen Mines from there. Now I followed the very nicely made guide posted by Jtisch to do this quest. However it took me 3 attempts to get to the ??? and replace the banishing seal.

The first attempt I died when I un-invised to pull the left lever on the second map, a worm there (forget the name) started to cast stonega on me then soon I had a bunch of monsters whomping on me. Just to note I did have reraise and I used it only to die again by a banshee who aggro's on low HP. Okay so I homepoint and go for attempt #2.

Now the second attempt, I follow the brilliant guide created by Jtisch once again, I get past the second lever this time and I make it all the way to the hole. I drop down the hole and the second I drop sneak starts to wear off. So I move to a place that LOOKs safe to recast.. The second I do a nice bomb comes after me and starts attacking me, followed shortly by a bunch of may flies. I die again - once again I attempt to reraise myself only to get aggro'd by a bomb yet again.

So back to gusgen mines, the third attempt everything went smoothly, I dropped down the hole, I was able to hit the ??? without being seen and warp back to Sandy to complete the quest.

It took awhile but I finally was able to complete it.

that guide def. helped a lot (Thanks JTisch!). I came as my 36 whm and I got lost and nearly died the first time. Once i looked at the guide below and knew what i was doing it was easy and only took like 5-10 minutes. I almost flipped out when i examined the hut and nothing happened and the quest wasn't in my log. but i knew i had the quest cuz i had the seal of banishing. i examined the seal, tried again and that made it work for some reason. def. a lot better then payin 30+ k

the walkthrough states that once you fall thru the hole, the ??? you need to place the seal of banishing on is in the "bottom left corner of G-8". This is incorrect. It is the Top right corner of G-8. Just a few steps from when you fall down the hole.
BAM! Done!

I just completed this quest. It took under 10 minutes and minimal problems. I accidentally made a wrong turn and realized it a minute later and turned around. Sneak ran out 1 or 2 times, and I had Invis on before I dropped down the hole. I had to run around to the different structures down there to find the right hut. I was lucky and had BLM subbed, so I warped right out of there.

In the strat guide, they tell you to talk to some guy in Bastok. DO NOT DO THAT! It is not neccessary.

MEA and HOLLA done.....now DEM to go. Just need to improve my fame in Bastok.

((EDIT))
I didn't have a map either. I looked over the gentlemens' strat guide he put on this board. I just got the general idea on where to go and went from there. That lil guide was definately a big help, as opposed to the $20 Brady Games guide.

Couldnt you just take the first left gate, head north from that room and take the north left passage in the next room to get there? Or do you have to go through both gates?

Yes you could go that way Iceman, the guide I posted below doesn't take you that way due to the fact that if you go that way, you will need to cross the paths of two more bombs which aggro sight. Thats not really a problem if your invisible, just make sure invis doesn't start to wear off before you get into the area with the ??? marker. All in all there are 4 or 5 bombs down there, avoid them and you'll be ok.

Leaving

After you have placed the seal, head upstairs past the Myconids and bombs, then east out of the big room, across a wooden balcony, and into another big room. Drop down the hole against the north wall at (I-6) and you will be in some (skeleton-filled) tunnels just north of the (first set of) three level-operated doors you passed on your way in.

I have been to the Gusgen Mines so many times now that I can't remember, never once have I seen the hole to which you are referring. After reading your post I decided to check it out and sure enough there is a hole in the floor at the north wall of I-6. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

As far as leaving that way, you still have to have someone to open the doors for you, both sets. When you drop through this hole you end up at I-9 of the third map into the mines.

What our friend means by the "bottome left corner of G-8" is actually the "upper right corner of G-8". It just happens that the bottom left corner of the room the ??? appears in is in the upper right corner of G-8.

I have written a complete guide including maps and easy to follow instructions for completing this quest. This quest is very easy and can be completed by any character in any job with enough fame to obtain this quest. The guide is located at the following URL:

teleport-holla.pdf

Feedback is appreciated and any spelling errors or omissions will be corrected if found or pointed out. I am working on completing similar guides for both the Tele-Dem and Tele-Mea quests and will be posting them shortly. After I complete the other 'Tele' quests I will create guides for them as well.

I finally managed to find the ??? and realized that I coulda done it on the first try, but no where in the directions did it say to drop down into the hole. Other then that, excellent guide! You dont even need a map to do it with these instructions!

Advice: If you dont like bees in RL dont be curios to search what other guides has JTisch in this directory... there is none. And the phtos or bees will give me nightmares tonight...

I am working on more guides, I have 4 in progress, but have been working on some better maps and haven't finished them. Hopefully they will be done soon. And, as for the bees, I'm a hobbyist beekeeper and those are my little buddies. :)

I have been keeping bees for a year now and have yet to have been stung, so if your scared of them: Don't Be! Be scard of wasps and hornets, those things are mean!

Thanks for the rate-up and I hope to have the other tele-guides done soon.

WHMs, take care
# Jul 08 2004 at 3:10 AM Rating: Good
I tried this quest a few days ago, as whm39/blm19. And I died 3 times while being raised twice.
Listen, don't count on invisible.
I'm telling you what happened to me:

I'm in desperate need of cash (for scrolls, for armors, for weapons, for learnig cooking), and teleport service looks like a good way to help me out. So I read every posts about teleport-scroll quests in this website.

As I've got this quest already, I started with Tele-Holla. My impression is you just have to run, run and run. No dangers as long as you have invisible and sneak even though you don't have the map. Even better, I had warp with blm sub.

WRONG!

I followed the instructions here, and casted sneak. It went well, though the mine was haunted with ghosts (not mobs) and skeletons (mobs). I managed to survive. But after the first middle door, I found another 3 doors at the bottom of another wooden staircase. I started to wonder if I went the wrong way. But I can't get back then, and there's no other way. So I just go through another middle door. I kept left. But I've passed more than 3 forks (there're 2 only as instructed by the posts below), still there's no hole or jelly. So I get back to the first fork and tried the right way. It felt wrong, too.

After some thoughts, I search the area and asked for instructions. Luckily, someone came and brought me to the hole. She jumped down. I stayed and casted invisible before jumping down. I should be safe then, right?

WRONG!

1st death
Invisible immediately wore off and I got aggro'ed by a bomb. She got aggro'ed by a rancid ooze and told me to run, so I searched for ???. I misunderstood her. She meant "run to exit". So I should have ran to south. Anyway, I don't think I can leave being aggro'ed by a bomb. (Later, I learnt that bombs aggro to magic even at a far distance, so DON'T cast invisible right above the hole!). And I should warp instead of run. (I forgot I can warp before I died, as I was so nervous.)
So, I died. She frowned.

2nd death
After I got raised the first time, the raiser left me without cure, so i cured myself and casted invisible, then the bombs came. I died.

3rd death
I got another raise. He's my friend. I rested (stupid of me). He said "don't rest here". I stood up and followed him. I got aggro, and he claimed it. I ran to south, bumped into flies, got aggro. There're flies all around and THEY LINK. I died, with flies dancing above. He defeated the mob and ran. (Obviously, it's dangerous for him to stay here, even he's at least lvl 50.)
Before going back to hp, I lied there for a while, and observed people occassionally ran into the screen. They didn't get aggro. And according to my previous search, they're lvl 50+ (maybe higher, can't remember, but surely not 40-ish).

Conclusion

1. So there're 2 middle doors to go thru. Turn left whenever you're at a fork.
2. Keep sneak on. If it's about to wear off, stay at a safe spot and re-cast it once it wears off.
3. Cast re-raise, stoneskin and blink (in case invisible wears off), then invisible, a long way from the hole after you've found it.
4. Your mp may run out after castings or drop below 100 after you revived. So, bring some silent oil and prime powder is a good idea even if you're whm. Or bring some food that adds MP so that you can keep mp above 100 for warp. Or bring a instant-warp scroll.
5. Warp once you get aggro. Invisble is useless at that time.
6. Run along the track for ??? according the posts below (I had no time to spot one, esp. as I dunno what's a shed/shack. I'll update this part later).
7. If you can't warp, after jumping down the holes and got everything (or you want to leave, got aggro, whatever), head south and call for help with <pos>. There should be some high level players around.

Good luck if you're lvl 50-

EDIT: I just checked the bestiary. Nearly every mobs down the holes aggro, except the sadfly (but it aggroed me). Most detect by sound, as well as, detect and pursue by scent. The bombs detect by sight and magic. The jellies guarding the hole also aggro, and detects by sound and scent. (They didn't aggro me though) So you'd better keep Sneak, Deodorize and Invisible all on.

How to Escape On Foot

I just did this quest today, and I did it as a 41MNK/20WHM. That's right; I didn't have Invisible. ^^

(Also, no, I don't play as a MNK/WHM in parties... this was for soloing purposes... ^^;)

So, I'm titling this post: How to do "Healing the Land"... the Ghetto Way! ^^

To note something important, once you go down the stairs in the room with the ghost children, do not take the far left passageway. That is for MNK AF1, not this teleport quest. Instead, go down the middle path which is directly in front of the stairs, to the north. Once you have used the lever to open the Oak Door in front of you, go straight from then on, taking every left you can. You will have to open another door, but it is OK, just keep going left, until you finally reach the room with the hole. Then, drop down the hole. Run along the train tracks around the room until you find the ???, click on it, and if it says you have replaced the seal, you're done with that part. ^^

There's something that no one has discussed here, and that's how to get out without a Scroll of Instant Warp, a teleport, or a Warp. I did this today, because I didn't plan on dying, and neglected to buy a Scroll of Instant Warp.

There's one key to getting out, and it's this: Always remember that the exit is to the south. This is even more essential than having a map. Why do I say that? Well... I didn't have a map, either. ^^;

Once you've dropped down the hole, and sealed the ???, start heading south. If you're heading south and the path starts winding in a different direction, don't worry; just keep following it until you can go south again. It is a long, long way back, and you may think you're getting lost, but just keep going south! ^^ Remember how you took a bunch of lefts to get there? Now, you'll be taking a lot of right turns instead. Plus, there will only be bombs for a couple rooms, so you'll be safe with just Sneak for most of this journey.

Your ultimate destination is the Oak Door at G-9. Note that it might be closed, and it was when I went. If there is a way to open it from that side, I personally do not know it, and I didn't snoop around. Instead, I did the following /shout (with the door targeted):

/sh (Excuse me...) <t> <pos> (Help me out!) (please)?

You can be sure that there will be a few miners in Gusgen at all times, and one happened to open the door for me. If you do not have such luck, try offering a reward. Someone will surely come to open it for you sooner or later. ^^ However, you may be luckier than I was, and the door may already be open when you get there.

This door is in the main room, so once you pass through it, just go straight, up the stairs, and right on your southern way out of Gusgen Mines. Voila! A safe exit, no scroll or spell required! ^^

EDIT: Ouch, I've been rated down for this? I know it's not a precise guide, but I wrote it with a sense of humor, and thought it would encourage others who didn't have a guide and/or the money for Sneak and Invisible items. I didn't think someone would actually see it fit to rate me down because of its imprecision... ;_;

Confused
# Jun 04 2004 at 8:42 AM Rating: Default
I am really confused with editor's fame gauge. What is 25 ?? I can only determine my fame lvl by what the guy said in tavern. I assume that's fame lvl 1,2,3,4.... If 20 is lvl2, 30 is lvl3, How do you know you rae 25 or 35 ??

I got this quest when the guy in tavern finally change the words and I check the fame guide which shows that means I am fame lvl 4, so I finally can get this quest. This quest and the Distant Loyalties need same lvl of fame to activate the quest.

I solo'd this quest last night, and I am a 38 sam. The only things that aggroed me here were the stupid funguars, and I was at full health (745hp). A whm with sneak and invis would have been nice (my first time that far down/in), but it wasn't too bad except for that last tunnel to the shack.

My friend and I decided to team up and do these quests together, as our WHM are basically the same level and let's be frank, these things are SCARY. If you've never been to Gusgen before this, prepare to take some screen shots. There's some scary eerie wailing noises that happen in here, too... freaked me out, hehehe.

However, this quest did NOT go well for us. We went through the middle door, then found the hole in the ground, cast invisible and fell through. But for the life of us... we couldn't find the darn ??? We quested for the map to this hellish establishment as well, and in the end it was only the help of a high level WHM that led us to where we had to go.

My friend died like, 3 times, when sneak wore off, when the Wendigos/Wights aggro'd her when she activated reraise, and when some funguars aggro'd as I raised her. I didn't realize funguars aggro'd low HP. Well, you're always learning something, right? 6_6

If you're lost after you fall down the hole, find a safe place to stand and pull up your map. It's on the left half of the map, there'll be a place where the path curls a bit (sorry that my info isn't more precise, I was running and panicing too much to mark my map or even remember where I was). It'll be all the way in the left hand corner and as soon as you follow that, bam. There's the ???

The ??? doesn't warp, either, it stays put, so if you're going with someone or in pt, you won't have to run around looking for it. And another WHM doing the quest at the same time won't ***** you up, unlike the Teleport Mea and Teleport Dem quests.

Taking a BLM friend with Escape along, or buying a scroll of warp is the only way besides dying to do this. It's hell to get there, and I don't even want to think about what it'd be like trying to walk all the way back.

I had 0 fame in Sandy - I did 120 stacks of La Theine Cabbage in (Only The Best) Selbina quest. I got the quest.

General directions: straight forward, head to middle path, now keep sticking LEFT. Drop down the hole you find. Stand behind shack in corner for ???. Done!
