im LVL 30, and im pretty sure i meet all the requirements, plus i can easily get past the kraken usin the lvl 1 thief perfect dodge. But i cannot find dietmund or anywhere to accept this quest. Do i need fame in Jeuno? it would be really helpful if someone could tell me where dietmund is. If i go into the merchant house there are only three people and Dietmund is not one of them?

SummaryWalkthroughDietmund is at G-11, in the house right above the chocobo stables. He will come out when you open the merchant's door and ask you to bring him some night flowers. Then go to the the Upper Jeuno Chocobo Stables and talk to Shallot. To get the flowers, you need to go to Qufim Isle and look for a path down the cliff at location F-8 (you can't get flower while invis). Wait for nightfall (22:00) and then walk down the path and look for the glowing nightflowers. The flowers is guarded by a Kraken; no worries, have Sneak casted on yourself or use a Silent Oil and you will be perfectly safe. Click on the flower and it will trigger a cut scene. After the cutscene, go talk to the sick kid at his house, then go talk to Brutus at the Chocobo house in Upper Jeuno and you will be flagged to be able to change jobs to Beastmaster. If you go back to where you first spoke to Dietmund, his now healthy son will give you a Beast Whistle and 2100 gil. After you receive the money and whistle you may go to Brutus (Upper Jeuno, G-7 at the Chocobo Stables) and speak to him.

Actually the first post IS correct in this particular instance. Night time does start at 20:00 in the game in general, but you can't find the nightflower roots until 22:00. I tried once each hour and they did NOT appear until 22:00 for whatever reason.
Also, the comment about sneak is absolutely correct. I used a Silent Oil and the kraken completely left me alone.

I'll vouch for this. I wasn't able to get the flowers at 20:00. I had to wait awhile for them to bloom. I can't recall the exact time they start to bloom, as I was chatting w/ others while I waited, though I do think it was a bit after 22:00.
For those that want to know how to get past the Kraken, just ask a high level nicely. :) There are always two or three high levels fishing around this area, and most of them are nice enough to take a minute out of their fishing to down a monster for someone.

I was doing this quest just last night, if you try to use "Sneak", there is a 75% you can get caught. I had it on, along with Deoderize and that thing turned around at the last second to spot me. Thus I was attacked upon sight and slaughtered.
Luckly, the second time I came across the cliff edge, there was some high levels and a bunch of people waiting to get the Night Flowers. It was like a line to get free copies of BST. Lol

Sneak has a 100% chance of working, no questions asked. I have snuck through (at level 30) to Fei'Yin, Xarcabard, Rabao, Deep in various areas for Teleport Quests, you name it. There is no %'age to sneak. You must've either hit ++ then canceled it (somehow) or it wore out.

Actually, if you use Silent Oil, only 99.9% of sound is removed :D

Okay, I know you have to be at least Lv30 to actually recieve the quest, but can you get the flowers at a lower level?

No, because the cutscene plays right after you pick the flowers. So they would be worthless even if you did pick something.
The Kraken aggro's through sound... all you need is sneak to get past him. So long as you have sneak on you can walk right up to him... dance, do a little jig, what ever, so long as you don't make a sound he won't attack you. You didn't need invis, or deodorize.

I went up past the kraken with sneak+deodorize+invis on. Then I dropped invis and grabbed the flower. The kraken still did not aggro. A cutscene triggered and after it was done, the kraken was gone.

For my opinion I think this is the easiest advance class quest. All you have to do is wait for night, and get a flower that a Kraken is guarding. To do this just be a Thief and use your 2 hour special (Perfect Dodge) when you see the Kraken and when it is night. Run up to the flower, target it and examine it. It is over you are done, just either die or if you have flee run from it. After this just follow the intructions this site gives you. =P have fun with this

This nightflower is guarded by a powerful Kraken!! Please be advise that you need to either go in as a L1 char with no xp and run in and have the cutscene activated to finish the quest before the Kraken kills you or have a 6 man party to kill the beast! I did the L1 char with no xp to have the cutscene ran and just have the kraken kill me to get to town faster... lol

Yes you can have it as subjob but its pointless when you only can tame monsters the same lvl your job is. for example at lvl 60 you can bring a lvl 30 pet. Totally useless

No one seems to even care take into account that you must beat the Kraken that SITS on top of the flowers to complete this quest. He's amazingly powerful, and you need a very decently leveled (around lvl 35) and organized group to kill it. Why was this part of the quest just savagely glazed over? Stupid

What happen if you go get the flower at lvl 20 or so, will I be able to start my bst? or do I really need to wait till lvl 30?
He won't even talk to you if you're under L30.
