The other day I was Partying w/ LS friends and while fighting we were duscussing skills. I mention that rasising your summoning skill SUCKS because at higher lvls it tends to skill up less and less(roughly an hour+ to gain one skill lvl @56).
Then one of my friends said that summon skill is pointless/stupid. Now me being a summoner and spent countless hours tryin to rasie my skill lvl, i got kind of annoyed.
The next day, i decided to do a little experiment while waiting to get an invite to xp. I went to Rolanberry Fields to fight crawlers (lol wanted to farm silks too). I took of my austre hat (Summoning skill +2) and my summoning earring (Summoning skill +3) and went to kill some crawlers
My skill w/o hat and earring was 138.
My skill w/ hat and earring was 143
I killed 6 crawlers w/o that gear and 6 w/ the gear. I added the damage and divided by the number of hits (to get and average of damage delt). And heres my results
The first 6-7 numbers are damage per hit, then the total damage, then divided by number of hits to end up with the average
1st 6 crawlers w/o hat and earring
crawler #1 112,120,120,116,105,108 = 681/6 = 113.5
crawler #2 115,109,109,115,104,118,113 = 783/7 = 111.85
crawler #3 107,106,118,101,106,113,117 = 768/7 = 109.71
crawler #4 120,106,110,106,120,120,110 = 792/7 = 113.14
crawler #5 120,120,116,108,120,120 = 704/6 = 117.33
crawler #6 120,120,113,120,107,118 = 698/6 = 116.33
2nd 6 crawlers w/ hat and earring (+5 skill)
crawler #1 120,115,120,120,114,120 = 709/6 = 118.16
crawler #2 108,120,118,117,120,120 = 703/6 = 117.16
crawler #3 115,120,108,114,119,118,115 = 809/7 = 115.57
crawler #4 118,115,120,115,114,120 = 702/6 = 117
crawler #5 112,120,120,106,117,120 = 695/6 = 115.83
crawler #6 107,112,110,114,112,118 = 673/6 = 112.16
If you actually look at the numbers you'll notice that w/o the hat and earring carby hit for under 110 over 10 times where as w/ hat and earring he hit under 110 about 3 times
If you actually look at the average damages you'll notice that w/o the hat and earring it is SLIGHTLY lower then w/ hat and earring on.
Now keep in mind that this is only a +5 skill differece so its not THAT different...but also keep in mind that my base skill is 138 and caps at 171 (lvl 56 summon skill cap i believe)
So while a +5 skill might not make a big difference, +33 (number of skills to cap @ lvl 56)will tend to be much more noticable.
So there you have it. IMO i believe Summoning skill IS important.
If you read this whole post i just want to thank you for taking the time and effort ^^

RE: Summon skill
Mar 20 2006
Thank you for actually trying to figure this out, however it has already been shown several times that Summoning skill does not affect avatars. 12 fights is not enough to undo all the other research everyone else has already done.
Summoning skill is not useless though. It does affect how often the elemental summons will cast spells. For example, the higher the skill the faster fire spirit will cast Burn or Fire. Or if you have a light spirit, it would cause Protect, Shell, Regen, and Cure to be casted more often.
Of course, this is all going to change in the new exp and updates in April, so you time spent leveling your skill will soon have a much larger impact :)
<goes off to lvl his summoning magic>
P.S. I will try to find 6-8 hours soon to do my own testing. I think about 50-60 easy prey crawlers should do it.
I came, I saw, I was forced to wait for maintence.
