The additional effect is equal to 1/4 current hp of the paladin it does not seem to be affected by defense of the mob either. I see this thing nail for addition 300 with every 10 swings at least. The weapon its attached to seems to also spike up in non critical damage up to err about x3 the normal attack every once in a while. I didnt see the sword do a critical nor when the Knights of the Round go off was the mob at full hp to get all the damage.
Ahhh... Atma Weapon lives... sorta. Wish they made it a Laser Blade like FFVI tho.
ANYWAYS...
Does anyone know if it's like an inverse of the Valiant Knife? Valiant Knife adds 1-11 damage to the weapon the less HP you have. Does the Excalibur add similarly? Or does it subtract from the strength of the blade if you are lower?
If you calculate the damage over time of this Sword, it deals more than any other Weapon in the game at .210 roughly (Gugnir and Bravura do .203). This leads me to assume that the damage might be subtracted from the blade in order to even the odds between the weapon classes.
An amazingly powerful Sword that trounces every other weapon in the game (almost 20% stronger than Gugnir)... For a Paladin and Red Mage... That just doesn't sound right to me.
However, if it works subtractive, as I think it is, you'll see numbers like these:
Still a formidable Sword even at its weakest, especially for a RDM or PLD.
-------------------------------------------------- THESE ARE ALL ASUMPTIONS. I have no hard evidence to support it except: -- my knowledge of the inverse relationship between ValiantKnife and AtmaWeapon from Final Fantasy VI. -- my knowledge of the transfer of Valiant Knife to FFXI. -- My understanding of the Damage Over Time calculations for the ultimate weapons.
I'd LOVE to hear someone clear it up and prove me wrong, but until then, I hope I helped some of you out with some ideas of what this blade really does.
Knights of the Round is based on the same factor for Hp as Spirit's Within. Whatever you current HP is at the moment you use it, is how much damage you do to the mob. So if you have 1500 Max Hp and you are full health then KOTR would do 1500 damage.
Not necessarily, keep in mind that it does not state whether the damage is directly proportional or inversely proportional.
If its Inversely proportional, than using it in the red would yield the most damage. While if it is directly proportional, using it with full HP would be best.
So you don't know for sure unless you know what type of correlation it is.
the only way to know for sure is to do the weapon skill while A. your at the lowest Lp and B. max Lp or the highest you can get it while fighting an It mob, and see what letter yeild the most damage.
This is how it goes. It does damage proportional to your current hp as stated (someone asked if it was for MAX, and its not), it procs pretty often, not like Kraken, but far more often then an additional effect:random element. It deals 1/4 current hp. So 1000hp = 250 damage 400hp = 100 damage 2000hp = 500 damage and so forth. Now imagine in Ballista with a Giants drink...
