Weight is the effect given by the spell gravity, it reduces movement speed.

Weight basically allows the Heavy Lance to do full damage to Skeleton enemies. Normally, skellies are strong against spear-type weapons (must be all them spaces between the bones). When Weight activates, this spear does full damage.
