Why go with Field Gear?
- It's much cheaper.
- If you're attacked, you can use an equipment swapping macro to swap in at least your body/leg armor. (the macro would look like /equip Body "Divine Breastplate")
- It gives the same improvement for logging as Worker's gear.*
Why go with Worker's Gear
- If you have the money, you can leave your armor at home and free up 3 or 4 slots for logs/lumber, etc.
- The Tunica is actually some of the BEST +def armor in the game at this level for MAGES. You can level from 15 to ~25 or so with this. (although there is better armor in the mid 20's)
- Spell interruption is reduced. If your strategy is to log dangerous places, and hit your "Warp" macro when something agros... You want extra def to guard against spell interruption. The more damage you take, the more likely your spell will be interrupted.
There you have it.

* I can say this with a fair degree of confidence for two reasons.
1- I've used both, and have done quite a bit of logging/mining. Didn't notice any difference.
2- Fishing gear has "Fisherman's" and "Angler's" gear. (same as this). Fishing skill is measurable by the delay between /fish commands. Both level 1, and level 15 gear give exactly the same +1/item fishing skill bonus. If fisherman's gear works this way, then field gear almost certainly does as well.
