I'm sorry to be posting like this, but i've been reading alot of the posts for this and noticed something very scary. NO ONE READS!!! The stategy guide tells you how to do it, cannotlinkto tells u how to do it and what fame is needed. This site is for ppl who have no interest in reading anything. I saw about 15 requests for the title, location and how much fame is needed. How many times do ppl have to post the same 3 questions??

Fame needed would be about level 4. The same needed for drain. This is a very good spell if you are BLM or DRK. Their Dark magic is very high and can make very good use of this. However subbing BLM or DRK will not yield the same results for aspiring magic because your magic skill is cut by half! I find as a 75WHM/37BLM that I can aspire upwards of 80 mp on an EP mob (robbers in Kuftal), but it is a rarety, and mainly I drain for 40-60. If you are just farming you can drain alot more on the TW mobs. Yes my dark magic is capped at that lvl too. So If you are going to main BLM or DRK...YES you need this spell. If you are just subbing..meh, its ok. I Prefer to sub SMN behind my WHM >:). GL to all, happy hunting.

That is incorrect. Both Aspir and Draom are lvl 3 fame.

Well, I put it off for 20 lvls, but I finally got the scroll last night.
I started at 11pm, and finally got it at 5pm. Why? My dumb ass hadn't done a single Windy quest....
So I started by just doing quests that required items that I already had. That was good for about ten quests. I had 2 stacks of sardines, which I also traded in. That took about an hour, probably a little longer.
I checked my fame, and had rank 2... It was already 4pm so I said screw it, and had my bastok mule buy 29 Cornettes. Traded those bad boys in, and blizzam rank 3 fame.
Then they make you do a bunch of running around....bastards.
I can't wait to use this farming. It should cut my down time in half, if not more.

I am an elvaan whm from kujata and have just quested this scroll last night and this is my question.... is this spell worth using for my blm sub or should I just sell it on AH? its going for about 75k atm... guess I have the same question about drain....but quested that long ago and sold it for 20k ...it going around 60-70k now (I think)

i was being pl'ed by a lvl 56 rdm and when he ran outa mp he sleep 2ed a sniper and chainspell aspir to get his mp back... granted you couldnt do this much but if your pt is rockin and you need your mp back but converts not up its kinda ammusing lol

I am so happy! I spent the last two days in Qufim, getting Black Mage to 25, so that I could use my Aspir scroll. And when I got it, my party pulled a Goblin Gambler, and I cast all of my debuffs, and nuked a little, and then I did Elemental Seal + Aspir for 67! I was so happy to finally use my scroll. My dark skill is capped, by the way, thanks to being in a party that was powerlevelled by one of my friends, and I just spammed Bio the whole time. I felt kinda useless, but seeing every single one of my magic skills in blue (capped) was worth it, :D
To celebrate, I went to the exit from the tunnel to Jeuno, and soloed a worm, no problems at all, for 120 exp. ^_^

When you get Drain and Bio try hard to use those two spells a lot to raise your Dark Magic so that Aspir will regain more MP then it takes to cast it. This spell is extreamly useful when you get to higher levels and have a higher Dark Magic level.

A good way to skill up your dark magic skill is to go to Qufim and Cast Bio, Drain, Aspir on Worms repeatedly.
You can also stand by the tower in Qufim and watch the noobs die and Tractor them as a puppet all around the place. Tractor is Dark magic skill too =)

so yeh its really usefull, at lvl 43 DRK/galka
my record on aspir is 66 and drain is 100- something. but seen a lvl 50 DRK do 200 with drain ^-^ (in quifm)
and im sure a BLM would do much more!

This spell is absolutely priceless as long as you keep your dark magic skill leveled. in Kuftal i usually end the battles against Robber Crabs only down about 80-100mp because I aspir at the beginning after debuffs and the end after nukes for about 72mp per aspir. I think i paid 38K because I don't have windurst fame, and it was worth every cent.

This scroll is very much worth it!! It helps to reduce down time for the Blm or Drk and it REALLY REALLY comes in handy when your facing the BCNM 30. So I suggest getting it ASAP.(^-^)
Its also worth it for a RDM using a BLM sub. In conjunction with refresh and convert this spell can help a RDM in never resting and as such a party can chain. I cant wait till lvl 50

I've aspired about 350 mp from a tunnel worm in west ronfaure as a lv 40 blm. it only turned yellow once, and that was for 1 second, where i threw blind on it. i was seeing just how much mp those things had. they have a lot, if not infinite amount (i just got tired and threw blizz at it). i know everyone say they have a limited amount, but really.... 350 mp on a lv 2 mob??? thats kinda crazy.

This spell if pretty much useless unless you have a high dark magic skill. But no need I have an easy and fast way to level this skill. Go to Korroloka Tunnel in the beginning of Zeruhn Mines. There are worms there that are great for mages to practice different magic skills on b/c they can't move. Which gave me the idea of recasting Bio over and over until I maxed the dark skill.
Should I cast this in the beginning? in the middle? or the end of a fight? Would I get more mp from the mob if I cast in the middle rather the end? thx

I suppose that you would get more mp, at least theoretically, if you cast it at the beginning of battle. However, the odds of a monster casting enough magic to significantly deplete it's supply of mp to the point where it would effect this spell during a battle are low. Now a real reason to cast it at the beginning would be if your party was taking a bit of time to kill something and you knew the battle was going to take a minute. Then you should cast it at the beginning (after debuff, if you're doing that) and try to cast it again at the end. In general though, if your party is handling monsters well going for chains, just do your job and then cast it at the end when the monster is to the point that they can physically finish it off. Also, if they pulled while you have low mp definitely use this.

Try this and drain with RDM subbing either DRK or BKM when using chain spell. Its really good.
Aspir has 1 mins recharge time,not to mention not every monster can be drained.

I think it would be cool in party settings later on if you had 2 BLM with really high dark skills, one nukes while the other does nothing but aspir and rest, then switch off.... You'd have constant black magic.
Might run into hate control issues with that strategy, as a heavily nuking BLM gets the mob's attention fast. However if you have 2 BLMs who each moderately nuke and Aspir/Drain, your voker will keep the mob stuck to them as it should be... that will make life much happier for your WHM (and you'll be doing a whole lot of damage too).
Edit: for fast chains, make sure that your BLMs are doing debuffs if you don't have a RDM. It's amazing how many people overlook the benefits of Paralyze, Slow, Gravity, Shock, etc.

Referring to skillchains, since Aspir is a Dark-type magic, you SHOULD be able to magic burst it if you do a lvl 3 Dark Renkei/Skillchain. Not confirmed by me, though.
A dark element spell can be used to MB from any skillchain that includes a dark element, not just the level 3 "dark" skillchain. These are:
lvl 1: Compression (dark element)
lvl 2: Gravitation (dark & earth element)
lvl 3: Dark (dark, earth, water and ice element)
I'm not sure if drain/aspir can actually MB, but I KNOW this is how the skillchain/MB elements work.

Yes, you can use Drain or Aspire to MB a Dark skillchain the same way you can MB a Light renkai with Banish.

but you dont usually get very high SC dammage.. and MB of drain and aspir dont seem to do as much bonus dammage as MB ann elemental spell.

I Think Aspir is useful also IF monsters have some fixed amount of MP they can use during fight. If I just can drain MP out from them making them not able to cast - Im happy! Can anyone confirm information about mob MP totals or some estimations at least or am I just dreaming? :)
no I dont tyhink this is so. I was ptied with a lvl 54blm who was helping me with RSE in shakrami maze a few days. and he would aspir for almost 100mp (lvl 174 dark magic) he would do it several times to "drain" the mob for mp an dhp instead of healing. he did it many times drawing almost 100 each time and the gob still was able to cast stuff. So I dont think it affects it in any way, or goblin shaman's jsut have a sh*tload of MP.

Can someone tell how your Dark Magic skill effects this spell....like if i have more dark skil will it drain more? Cause if it will only ever drain 40 MP ish...theres no point in spending 25K + on it i think lol....and you need alot of fame to get the quest for it....

The more Dark Magic skill you have the more you drain just like with "Drain" it self.

the recast time on this is not 15 seconds, i believe its 60 seconds just like drain now. still very useful, i usually pull around 41mp though it varies, casting it and drain together keeps your mp rather high at level 22.

It might not give you much MP when you drain but I want it when it looks like the monster is about to die, less waiting time of getting MP back.
I get real ticked off when someone thinks I am a female Tarutaru!!

Why does it cost 10 mp to cast??? In previous FF's, i believe mp draining spells were free of mp cost. Making it cost 10 mp kinda makes it less satisfying.

Not sure about Aspir during chain, but I did do Drain burst during chain and gained alot of HP.

is this worth casting in a fight? because it definitly looks like its not going to be in the normal rotation but i could see it having uses in a chain group... i was trying not to get my hopes up too much with this spell.

I get +30 mp or more off yagudo priests in sarumaunge with my dark magic maxxed at level 28. That's 40 mana stolen, not too shabby.

Yeah but if it costs 10 mp to cast and you get 20 in return is it realy worth it you could only cast one poison with the extra you have gained...Of course I am getting this spell As soon as I can. :) I just love draining things of Hit Point and now Mana to!

Well i dont have the spell. But i have seen a BLM draining about 30 MP a fight off clippers. I usualy cast Thunder then Blizard then Thunder again. Then just sit and med for the next battle. I could see how getting 20 MP back before sitting down to med would be a good way to keep your MP high.
Think about not having to rest at all. I bet you won't get much aggro if you cast osmosis as soon as the battle started, then again after 15 seconds.
