Chigoes, Raising, and How to never do it

I'm all in favor of crazy-a$$ spells.

I wish I had this during COR run. I was running along when I got a tell from a person for a raise. We talked for a bit and found out their party (3) and my party (2) were both doing COR. So I said I'd come raise em.

I get there, see no mobs and start forward. Oxen, my faithful Galka compatriot, happily runs ahead to look around. Thank you Oxen, you found those gorramn Chigoes instead of me.

So I put my sneak, invis back up and run a bit away. I slowly go back to raise em, get Oxen raised, chigoes aggro. Dead. Hp. Run back.

Second time, I"m a bit more careful. Get to the maximum range I can raise. I find one chigoe in the bush right beside me as I raise. Dead. Hp. Run back.

Someone had finally come by and killed the blasted things. After a bit, we were on our way.

I would have killed for Tractor, or atleast maimed.

{Hmmm.} Raise 2 is a White Mage level 56 spell
The maximum subjob level is lvl 37
Therefore that was a White Mage who tractored you and did the Raise 2
oh, and whm rules.

i was on my way to norg and well it was my first time going... and i was only a WHM 30... i died.
welli still wanted to get there to get SAM and i couldnt make it but a BLM came along and said he would take me... but i didnt walk he tractored me the whole way there... its a great spell to get low lvls to one place or another
Okay?
# Jul 20 2005 at 8:06 PM Rating: Decent
What is the point of a DRK using this spell? They dont have raise. And a WHM subjob isnt very wise. So what's the point?
RE: Okay?
# Feb 27 2006 at 6:42 PM Rating: Decent
I like this spell because when I play my 51 THF/25NIN and I'm the puller and something happens to eat through Utsusemi and I die, the DRK can Tractor me back to the mages and let the despawn trick work. Instead of the whole party running out and getting slaughtered by what killed me and possibly one of his buddies.
RE: Okay?
# Aug 06 2005 at 8:10 PM Rating: Decent
Well...yeah. It's seeming useless for a DRK to learn it but most of the time that DRK will have a WHM in his/her party.
RE: Okay?
# Aug 08 2005 at 4:22 PM Rating: Decent
I see...that makes more sense when you think about it.
Free airships?
# May 18 2005 at 6:52 AM Rating: Decent
Here's something I was wondering about this spell. Say you were to switch to a level 1 job in town and take a poison potion and die. Could a BLM who's standing on the docks tractor somebody who's on the other side of the fence to the docks for a free airship ride?

Nope. Would not work. You cannot cast tractor in a city.
Yep

Well, of course every spell has it's use, my BLM knows this spell and when I go to Qufim i always sub BLM to Warp to my Homepoint in Jeuno(lazy), well since I'm a PAL i do know Raise and i do use it the most in Qufim (too many deaths there to count) and it is VERY handy when the Banshee's and Wights are out who immediatly aggro to low HP. (Vivere my friend, raised her 3 times.....a Wight killed her every time)

Got mine off a Wight drop in Qufim Island. Haven't really had to use this spell yet. I understand the implications of the spell, however I probably wouldn't buy it not worth the money, especially when the Wights that drop it are easy to kill.

I found mine on a Dancing Weapon in the tunnel on the way to Qufim Island.

I can't wait to use it, as it would have been uber helpful those times your whole PT dies - or just one. Always nice when you have to Zone but want to bring the dead with you for a quicker raise. the less wait for Raise, the less wait to start XPing again.

Just my thoughts.

Tractor is not a useless spell and I'll give you an example of when I was glad I paid the 3k for it. While doing rank 5 for the davoi magicite a LS member decided it was wise to use flee and just rush the wall of evil. Well he reached the wall and then got pummeled by about a million orcs, and promptly dies. So I invisible up and try to raise him while the orcish trooper has its back turned.
Well it doesnt work and I catch aggro. I run for the monastic cavern zone and then come back. I realize there is no way I can raise him safely out there...... until I remebered I had tractor. So I tractored him through the wall of evil and raised him safely. It can't hurt to have this spell, one day it will make you glad you had it ^^.
Edit: Spelling ><

Trying to hoof if back to Khazam after a Yhoater party and invis wore off at an inopportune moment, needless to say a couple gobs decided to follow me, killed me in the big open area before you hit town. A DRK came out and tractored me back to the zone and was raised in a nice safe location.

I have also seen it used quite a bit in Crawlers Nest when some idiot decides to zone a soldier crawler and then the carnage ensues after about 100 crawlers are waiting by the entrance for all the new unsuspecting parties expecting to go in and exp and find instant death.

Another use?
# Sep 28 2004 at 4:48 AM Rating: Decent
I was hunting for chest keys in Giddeus and at level 25 BLM I don’t get aggroed by Pipers/Mendicants/Persecutors/etc. but do get aggroed by Votaries/Priests/etc. I had pulled a Votary and it linked up with two Pipers. Unfortunately, I died without killing any of the three >.< After looking around for a raise, I got a WHM (another thank you to Kismet of Bismarck, btw) to come and while I was waiting the Votary wandered off (out of aggro range) while the Pipers stuck around close. After my raise, the two Pipers turned around and promptly killed me again (I checked, only the Pipers attacked). I didn’t know that this happened (and correct me if it really doesn’t) but since I don’t get aggroed by Pipers at this level, it seems like I had “left over” hate from before my death that made them attack me again. Anyway, assuming that this really happens and I didn’t miss something, couldn’t this be another use for Tractor? Since being Tractored is like zoning, wouldn’t you also shed any “left over” hate, just like if you had run to the zone? Just a thought, but maybe using Tractor before a raise can also keep the old mobs from attacking again after you are revived.

If there is another reason that I got killed the second time, let me know ^^

The reason you got aggroed, was probably because another "higher level" Yagudo was behind the pipers, but you didn't see it. This is a common thing that happens in Crawlers' Nest. It's not the Worker Crawlers that aggro in order to kill you. One simple Soldier Crawler in the crowd gets the horde against you, since they link.

Once you die, enmity is reset, just as if you dismissed a pet. If you summon (if SMN) the same monster, the mob won't go after the summoned pet until it gets enough hits in. (I swear, if enmity weren't reset, I'd win the avatar battles with ease. =\)

If you're stuck in the middle of nowhere, or are being stepped on the mobs that just killed you (hoping they don't aggro magic), that's the most common scenario for Tractor. Another is to just play with the corpse before actually raising them. =P

iF you were healing, they would have aggro'd, and they might have aggro'd due to your weakness.

Not 100% sure about the weakness part.

Because if you die, Hate is dissipated.

if you were sitting healing after you got raised they would have agro'd you.. (even if you are 50 levels above they still agro to that)

they might also level to low hp? probably not...

I think (havent confirmed) that some monsters aggro depending on the precentage of a certain stat. I think some aggro if your hp is below X%. Can anyone confirm?

Absolutely. Some mobs do aggro on red (low) HP when they otherwise would not.

Some mobs also will aggro resting players, when they wouldn't aggro that player at all otherwise.

Um ... No this spell is very usefull ... If you get killed in a mass area of undead ... you dont want to get raised there. So you get tractored to a SAFE area and get raised. A perfect example is in Garlaige ... If you fall down a hole you are almost certainly dead. Solution: Tractor out of hole and get raised.

Anyone notice the level?
# Jul 03 2004 at 12:56 PM Rating: Decent
I know the connection between raise and tractor have already been made, but only in the context of how they just happen to work with one another. But did anyone think that maybe they were meant to work together?? Look at their levels-- they are both level 25 spells. Presumably in a party situation users want to be in a very narrow range of levels, so you would assume that the white mage and black mage are about the same. That means that they should both be able to use these spells at the same time, implying in my mind that the creators WANT us to use them together.

This isn't the first time FF has given us abilities that complement one another. I would not be surprised if the only point of Tractor was exactly what people have said already. In my mind the creators have given us two complementary abilities that are meant to be used together in a party situation. We have figured that out, but it still seems like some people are insistent on believing Tractor has another use.

Obviously designed to work together. It only works on corpses after all- why else would you want to move a corpse unless you are going to raise it? To take screenshots?

HAHAHAHA kinky..... j/k. *Hides his screenies under the bed*

tractor is also a nice spell to have when you're in one of these situations:

You're in a party/allaince and you're somewhere particularly nasty, doing a mission or quest that really isn't too easy (Say Den of Rancor, doing ZM4), and some $#@ was too cheap to buy the prism powders and silent oils he needed for the mission. He gets aggro by a couple giggling tonberries because the mages can't spare the time to cast sneak and invis on anyone but themselves, and dies. The lanterns are lit, and the gate is open. What to do, what to do? Well, ya can't leave the moron out there, you need him to fight the mobs in the burning circle! And ya can't raise him, 'cause of the time/aggro factor. So you send your drk or blm out to drag his rotting, retarded, cheap corpse through the door and into safety. Before you feed him to the NM tonberry's summon. And no this has never happened to anyone I know >.>

Summary: Tractor keeps people honest if you threaten to use it.
Not a waste
# Jun 19 2004 at 10:24 PM Rating: Decent
To anyone who finds the spells useless:
Look at the level a BLM gets it: 25.
What level does a WHM get Raise? 25.
I rest my case.
Forgetting one very important use...

If you're fighting lots of undead, like in Eldieme Necropolis, where EVERYTHING is undead, and a member of your party dies, raising them anywhere remotely close to undead will draw immediate aggro to them, since their HP will be in the red. Tractor lets you pull them far out of undead low HP aggro range. VERY useful spell in some situations. ^^

Oh, one other thing to note:
Tractor will block out Raise. If you cast Tractor on someone who is afk, and they don't accept or decline the tractor, and someone casts Raise on them afterwards, it will say that Raise has failed.

this spell is EXTREMELY useful. in Garlaige citadel one of our pt members fell down the hole to see the serket which immedietly used its AoE atk and killed him. the blm stood at the edge of the hole and tractored him up so that the whm could raise him.... unlike conventional blm spells, this spell has a very long range

this spell is useful becasue it can pull KO'd pt members out of dangerous raising areas

If you are in dieing need of this spell and do not wish to pay the gil that its worth say I! Well I do and a lot of others i know do to. Here is the way you can get this seemly useful spell: Go to Qufim Island and wait till 20:00 (That is when the Wights come out) and then find any Wight weilding a scythe. These are the Warrior based Wights. It may take 1- any number of Wights to drop the spell but it is well worth it.
Cheap spell

I saw this spell in the AH @ Jueno for only 1000 gil. I suppose at that price alot of people don't care for it too much.
RE: Cheap spell

That is because you won't be able to use this spell all the time, but it doesn't mean it isn't useless. You'll need it some time or another
