The nice thing about having Shell or Protect etc. is that these can be cast on a person who is not in your party. It is nice to give these to people after a raise. Is it worth the gil? I guess that is up to you. I like the idea of casting bennificial spells on non party members.

The goblin junk shop in Lower Jeuno sells Protectra II and Shellra. Seems silly for a level 18 spell to sell in an area where the mobs were designed for 6 person parties of 20+.

The only place I can see it is in auction house so Im guessing just like protectra this is a drop spell, I can find shell on vendor but I dont care about that spell since shellra has the same resistance upgrade, it has the same MP cost, but it effects the entire group, so shell is just a waste of gils unless yer powerleveling or buffing someone outside your party.
Anyways, if anyone can tell which monster drops this spell, I would be a happy WHM, I dont like buying stuff from auction house cause its always grossly overpriced.

Shell has a 5 sec. recast time, as oppose to shellra's 15 seconds. It also takes 1/4 the time to cast Shell than Shellra.

Yes, but... Why would you need to recast Shellra in less than 15 seconds anyway? It seems kind of pointless to me to buy Shell when Shellra can be cast on all members of a group for the same amount of MP. So it takes a little longer to cast... Big deal! If you're casting buffing spells like Shell and Protect, chances are it's not right in the middle of a battle.

Can you use Shellra when you are soloing?
Also I agree with Syneris, shellra is WHM specific where Shell is used by WHM, RDM and PLD. Can someone confirm the MP amounts too?

yes shellra can be cast while soloing, just like protectra. but you won't be able to just cast it on someone without them being in your party. if you like to help people not in your party then you will want to buy shell.
