Checked this spell on auction and it was going for at least 5k, any idea why it's so high? And where is it from?

It's quite sad how some people don't know how a forum works. You can find most of your answers if you read the posts before you decide to ask a question. I'll still answer your question though.
The reason why this spell can go for such a high price is because this can only be obtained through a quest in Windurst.
There's a first quest that you must do before you can start the quest to get Blaze Spikes. You can find this NPC behind a few homes in Port Windurst. Sorry, I forgot his name XD. This area can be found start across from the port where the weapon, armor and magic shop are located. Talk to the top NPC on the pile of crates. He will tell you to give him a tail of a sort to join the ****** What you can give his is a RARAB TAIL which can be found hunting Bumblebess...that's right...Bumblebess right outside of town. You can also be lazy and purchase one at the AH or Culinary Guilds, I believe.
The second quest is to get 4 Wild Onions. You can obtain these from the Goblins outside of town, or you can purchase them at the AH and Culinary Guilds, I think...again. Then you will receive your Blaze Spikes scroll.
Sadly to say, other mages in other countries will have to wait to get this spell, or they can just spend the money to buy this spell and sell the one that they receive through this quest. This way...you can EVENTUALLY break even with gil for this spell.

It's quite sad how some people don't realize that the oldest posts are at the bottom of this forum, meaning that the person you replied to was the first to comment on the item. ^^
