On my server, this spell is going for 20-40k in San D'Oria. Definatly worth the ride to Windy and quest. There's an excellent post below which mentions what needs to be done in good detail in order to obtain the spell.

My advice is definitly not to pay for this spell. It is VERY easy to obtain by the Quest related with it. These spells are very useful in early levels especially when you solo. However, in later levels it gets pointless, because if you control your hate and the tank in your pt's are doing their jobs the Mob should not attack you.

The best way to obtain this spell if you did'nt start off in Windust is to create a mule in Windust if you havent already. Have your mule do the quest by senting the stuff over from your main the iteams needed are cheeply brought from the AH. Have the mule then do the quests and send over the spell to your main.

well how do you send stuff to your main from your mule if you have one cp!!!

the duration might be 3 min but it only lasts for a few attacks. i think when it has dealt damage 10 times, it wears off. does ice spikes support 20 times then or..?

i don't think that's correct, while farming bats in ranperre's tomb, i've got 10 or so bats and as many gobs pinging me for 1, it still lasts the fullduration of 3 mins, wich granted isn't log, but more than 10 hits for certain
can't bid for item at auction

I'm guessing either because your inventory is full, or there are no items available at the AH

PLEASE LISTEN UP! I would like to save everyone who needs this spell a good 5k. If you are in Windurst or don't mind traveling to Windurst then you can complete a quest called "Know One's Onions" for this great spell. There is a quest before this that you must complete but is ratherly easy. The quest is called "Truth, Justice, and the Onion Way!" which gives you a Justice Badge which is a pretty nice item for low lvl mages. To obtain these quests go to area (G-5) of Port Windurst and talk to Kohlo-Lakolo behind the 2 warehouses. Just a reminder the first quest requires no fame but the second requires Fame Level 2. Hope I helped you out a little.

Ok, Sadly, Blaze Spikes still does the most damage. Shock spike's and Ice spikes you'd think would do more damage but Noooo. Blaze Spikes does about 11 damage for me where as Ice Spikes which I payed 20k for does 6 and Lets not even talk about Shock Spikes X_X

well, if you were to use Ice Spikes on something weak to ice, I would think that it would do more.

And it COSTS more because Blaze Spikes is the reward for an easy easy quest, and Ice Spikes is dropped by those stupid pirates. T_T

Actually, the reason Ice and Shock Spikes do less Damge is because they have added effects. Shock Spikes cause Stun and Ice Spikes cause Paralyze. Blaze Spikes have no Extra Effect but the Damage produced get better as you level up. I assume the Extra dameage and probablily of Enfeebling is tied to Enhancing Skill, but I'm not sure how.
Awsome

I LOVE this spell!!! When you use it on yourself (wich is only what u can do) By the way its enhancing..... When the Mobs attack u, they get fire damage each time!!! I was trying it out on a weak monster and from just hitting me, its hp went to like half!

Easy Quests!!

If your in Windurst do not pay $3K-$5K for Blazing Spikes. You can get this spell pretty easily. Not sure what level you need to be or how much fame you need to have. I'd say at least L10 since you can't use the spell unless you are L10. I don't think fame has anything to do with it, but definitely try to have at least 7-10 quests completed.

Now.. where do you start? The first quest you must do is the "Truth, Justice and the Onion Way" quest. You must talk to Kohlo-Lakolo who is BEHIND the Warehouses (G-5) in Port Windurst. He's the leader of the Star Onion Brigade and is standing on a stack of crates. In this quest you have to retrieve a Rarab Tail off of a BumbleeBee, which is easy as can be. BumbeeBees are just outside any gate to the city. The Rarab Tail is for one of the SOB member's mother. You'll see all the usual cuts scene about it. Give the Rarab Tail to Kohlo and you'll get the Justice Badge (*Neck* Def 1 - MND 3).

Now.. if you speak to him again he give you the "Know One's Onion" quest. This is the quest that will get you the Blazing Spikes scroll. Kohlo needs 4 Onions so they can make Stink Bombs to attack the Cat Burgular (Nanaa Mihgo). Again you will see the smooth cut scenes that tells the story. All you need to do it get 4 Onions off of Globlin Thugs and give them to Kohlo and he'll give you the Blazin Spikes. That's it!!

Both quests combined took me less then 15 mins to do. Why? Because I already had like 5 rarab tails and 5 Onions. I just ran to my Mog House got them out of storage and completed the quests. Watching the cut scenes took longer then anything else.

As for the Blazing Spikes, it's one of the best counter attacks spells I've seen for lower level characters. It surrounds you in an armor fire wall. Everytime a mob (enemy) hits you the flames protecting you hit the enemy and cause them anywhere from 5-8HP of damage. That's per hit. So fighting Mandragoras or Pygmaiois is great because they can hit you 2-3 times in just a few seconds cause 15-24HP damage to themselves on top of what you dish out. The scroll is effective which is why it's so expensive at the AH. The people who are selling it are people who don't have a Black or Red Mage for a character. Hope this finally answers everyone's questions. Also.. the Blazing Spikes effect last for 3min and the Recast time is 10min I believe, not 10 sec. I need to verify that again, but I think that's correct. Good luck!
RE: Easy Quests!!
# Apr 16 2004 at 11:51 AM Rating: Decent
I'm pretty sure that level has nothing to do with quests, except if its a job or ability related quest. Quests are always about fame level.
RE: Easy Quests!!
# Jan 06 2004 at 11:52 AM Rating: Default
recast time is 10seconds. might even be less since I chain cast it to raise my skill. so its 5-10 seconds, NOT minutes.
High price ?
# Dec 05 2003 at 5:28 AM Rating: Default
emm.. u know, 5 k gil isnt that much, ive seen things that only raise ure def by 1 bought for about 20 k lol.. u see ppl with alot of money like to spend it ^_^
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 11 2003 at 1:02 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Cure V in Jeuno is 1.1 million ;) so 5k is NOT much at all for mage spells.
RE: High price ?
# Jan 20 2004 at 3:12 AM Rating: Good
well compare the 2 spells: Blaze Spikes=lvl 10, Cure V=lvl 61; Windust AH price for Blaze Spikes=3-5k, Jueno AH Price for Cure V(which has very overpriced items due to tax)=1,100k

3-5k doesnt seem like much to a lvl 61+ player, but to a lvl 10 mage(and probably a new player), that's alot
Blaze spikes around Bastok?
# Dec 04 2003 at 12:39 PM Rating: Default
Anyone know where you can find this spell around Bastok other than the AH? On Bahamut, it is going for 7,000 gil at the AH. Since I am kind of new, it seems way too expensive for a low level spell. Any advice?
aint bad
# Nov 26 2003 at 10:59 AM Rating: Default
it isnt bad.. especially if your a BLM, coz its added defense.. at least 6 damage per hit isn't that bad right..

Have also seen this spell called "cloak of flames" on a mud, and "fire shield" in standard dnd.

Basically creates a fire shield around you, things that hit you take damage. At lvl 12 blk mage, wild rabbits take 6 hp what appears to be fire damage when they hit you. Spell only lasts several seconds, expect it to last one or two combats or something. Upside is it only costs 8mp to cast I think. Long casting time.

Dunno if you can cast on a tank, you can pick your target, but I haven't tried anything but myself yet. Bought for 4500gp on auction in Fenrir, paid too much.

ALSO: When putting into a macro say:

/ma "Blaze Spikes" <name>

No quotes = no work. Doesn't like the space in the name of the spell.

Skydaemon, blk mage lvl 12, fenrir.

wwhere to get
# Nov 11 2003 at 1:30 PM Rating: Default
I bought this for 2400 gil on an auction in San d'Oria. I just got it last night thoo, so I haven't been able to figure it out yet.
Spell Effects
# Nov 10 2003 at 7:26 PM Rating: Default
Can anybody tell me what the exact effects are? Does it just raise AC? if so how much... Or does it damage the attacker? How much damage? How long does it last too? Trying to decide if i wanna foot the 6k for it or run through 10 zones to do the quest myself

It's self only.
how to get this spell
# Nov 07 2003 at 4:46 AM Rating: Default
To get this item (in Windurst ONLY, although, like the other guy said, there may be equivalent quests elsewhere), you have to go behind the warehouses in Windurst Port and talk to the leader of the SOB (star onion brigade). He'll have you first go get a Rarab Tail (these drop off of bees in east and west saruta). After you complete that quest, talk to him again later (there may be a level requirement, but I did it at lvl 11). He'll have you pick up 4 wild onions, which drop off Goblin Thugs, which are also in east and west saruta. Take him the onions, and he'll reward you the scroll of blaze spikes.

Quest reward
# Nov 04 2003 at 3:37 PM Rating: Default
It looks like it's a reward for the wild onion quest in Windhurst. Might be similar quests for other regions.
