If you look up your job traits no matter what level your monk is it will only say "Martial Arts". This is true even if u have reached the levels where you get martial arts 2, 3 etc... This is the same for hp boost, no matter what level it will only come up as Max HP Boost
Martial Arts 1 Subtle Blow 5 Counter 10 Max HP Boost 15 Martial Arts 16 Martial Arts 31 Max HP Boost 35 Martial Arts 46 Kick Attacks 51 Max HP Boost 55 Martial Arts 61 Max HP Boost 70 Kick Attacks 71 Martial Arts 75
Hundred Fists 1 Boost 5 Dodge 15 Focus 25 Chakra 35 Chi Blast 41 Counterstance 45
The martial arts bonus is a gradually increasing ability. Pretty much, instead of there being definite gaps in between each martial arts level there is a slow increase in attack speed as the MNK gets stronger.

i know this is an older post but ..... hahahahahahahahaha. Brady Games -official FFXI strategy guide has so much usless crap and is wrong half the time..
"P.S. Monk subjob is worthless =)"
you should really try or at less see them before saying there worthless. I for one think war/mnk is far better then any other sub.
mnk sub not only get vit and hp but counter attack, boost, focus, chakra and if a new lvl breaker comes out you can bet there be alot more people subing it for Chi Blast.
That book is outdated. It doesnt even mention kick attack. Or the new HP boosts.
The kick attack is definetly there when reaching 51. That doesnt appear in the book.
And HP boost. Well I haven't witnessed it, but if you keep track of how much hp you get per level. you can probably notice the HP boost.
As far as MA. I haven't a clue. I never notice any difference. But I do notice a difference between my lvl 1thf/mnk than my lvl 42mnk/war when attacking speed. In the future it might be even harder to tell if I attack faster.
i use Monk as a sub for my Thief and there are plenty of upsides to it. Boost stacks with Sneak Attack, and since i don't get hit as a Thief too often, i can stack up boosts before battle, use Sneak Attack and then score big damage on my first hit. that coupled with the HP boost, and the Counter ability make it a good subjob in my opinion, at least for a thief.
I noticed that too, i looked in my passive job traits and noticed Martial Arts there, not Martial 2. If someone could clear up that I get it later on in the game or something and the info here is wrong please let me know.
