what are those whm spells that draw aggression?
So whats the update?

So does anyone know what POL actually updated to Benediction?? They seem to always make updates but never state what the actual update is. If anyone can share this information it would be greatly appreciated.
So whats the update?

Benediction now cures all status ailments except Weakened and Level restriction effects. Previously, Benediction merely restored party members to full HP only.

Benediction and hate (or lack thereof)

The other day while partying, we got a link. We managed to beat down the first mob, but were severely hurt as we began to handle the link. And when I say severely, I'm talking about everyone's HP being in the double-digits. (I blame our BLM's gimpy enfeebling skill)

Having virtually no MP left and Reraise II up, I decided to use Benediction, curing about 4000 HP in total. To my utter shock, the mob only smacked me once or twice before turning its attention back toward our NIN tank.

I have to wonder if SE didn't secretly adjust the amount of hate that Benediction garners.
Avoiding hate

Using benediction has always been something I only use if there is a dire need since it often meant that I would end up dead.
So a week ago I was facing one of those situations when u have killed a mob just to get aggro from a nearby mob.
Anyways my pt was prety low on both hp and mp and after a while I thought oh well time to die so I use benediction and......the mob doesn't even blink....it just kept bashing our PLD (my hero after that incident). It wouldn't have been such a big deal if it wasn't for the fact that he didn't have to use Invincible to keep the hate off me....he didn't use cover either.
My praises to Rajani (the PLD) for doing an amazing job @ keeping hate, there should be a Rajani for every whm out there :)

A similar situation happened to me, but instead of a PLD, a DRK saved my hide. We were all pretty tore up from the previous battle. I had to bene and I already submitted to my seeming fate, when the DRK Berserk+Last Resort+Soul Eater+WS. Just as you said, the mob didn't even flinch at my Bene. I was able to rest up enough MP to keep him alive and we took the mob out no problems.

Just a tip. Last night in a PT, I saw the need for it coming, so I cast Blink right before a benediction.

This then gave me enough time to cast Stoneskin, which in turn gave my tank enough time to re-establish hate.

If you have the MP (which admittedly you may not) then you need to find ways to prolong your survivability without curing yourself. In general zoning should be a very last option. Everyone hates a train.

I don't have Stoneskin yet (1 more level!) but here's what I did last time I had to use Benediction. I already had blink running, I cast it then took two high potions while a Mandy whacked at me. That cured like a 1000 hp in my party and they all hit it with their two hours to finally kill it and get it off me.
n00b ?

Does the two hour recast mean two hours online? That is, if I cast is and log off for two hours and come back online, can I cast it again?

Sorry if this is stupid....

All job abilities still "cool down" while you are logged out. So if you use your 2 hr and log for 2 hours, then it will be available as soon as you log in. Most status effects (such as food, protect, etc.) do not wear while you are logged out. So if you eat a pie right before you log, It'll still be in your belly whenever you decide to come back.

HOWEVER, this only works "if" the job is your main at the time you logout. If you switch jobs and wait 2 hours it will still be the same when you switch back. I hadn't played Warrior for at least 2 months and today when I made it my main for a Promy, it still had 1:30:00 left on the recast timer for Mighty Strikes. Summoners find this out the most when waiting to do Avatar fights with Astral Flow. Beware!

Not true, the reason you switched back to that job and it still had a 2 hour cooldown was because you used your 2 hour on the job you were playing previously. You're two hour is you're two hour no matter what job is your main. If you use Mighty Strikes then switch to Whm 30 minutes later even never having touched whm it will still be 1:30:00 before you can use Benediction at all. Likewise if you switch back to War another 30 minutes later you will find that Mighty Strikes is down to 1 hour.

All 2 hours share one cooldown. Hope this helps.

Benediction only works on your party members. It does not affect members of an alliance.

I'm not sure exactly what Sarlos did, but that is the most likely explanation for how Bene didn't do anything. The only other likely explanation is that the party leader disbanded the party in an attempt to run away and lose hate and caused Sarlos to waste a Benediction. If they are in range for a Cure, and in your party at the time Benediction goes off (note well: if they disband before it goes off, they get nothing), then Bene will get them.

is it possible to bene and then invis urself?
assuming ur not close enuff to zone and actually manage to cast it(the invis) without getting interrupted since all the mobs are beating on u... just wondering if its worth trying since ur gonna be a temporary(and soon dead) speed bump anyways
Better name

They should be honest and up front about this spell and just rename it 'Sacrafice'. The only time I've ever used this and lived is when I've managed to make it to the zone.

A slight correction (but an important one): benediction only restores HP to the group members in range! I was fighting a gob in a group the other day when another goblin spawned just feet away. I grabbed him and pulled him away from the group. When we were all in red, the whm used benediction, and guess what? I was the only one who stayed in the red! So make sure you're close to the whm when he/she uses this!

so though its been said more than once benediction gets HATE nice and fast. for me its suicide most cases, and at other times im like their savior because of it. MOST times its utter chaos because though it may seem like your about 1-3 hits from killing the mob, often times because you draw that hate, 1-3 hits is a long time if their busy running. but hey, if anybody is to die in the party its the tank or whm. but ONLY use your 2hr in emergencies of course. deciding to use mighty strikes or another one just out of fun is no good unless your group agrees on it. but back to dying... i use benediction when people are in red. if its a super hard mob ill run one way and use benediction while the party i say RUN and they run like the ******* to zone. this way most times only i die opposed to 2-3 people or even those that arent as tolerant to dying and so the more you can do to keep them alive the better mood they're in. better for them to yell at you for suicide then to yell at you for not healing them right that second or that someone messed up a skillchain or something. hope that helped at all
Oh

hmmm, this would really stink if u used benediction and it didnt heal anyone, ecspecially if you have to wait two hours. I hopwe that doesnt happen to me. *shudder*
Hate
# Jan 20 2004 at 7:10 AM Rating: Decent
Benediction draws more hate then anything else in the game that I have seen other than the Paladin's Invincibility. This being said, the two make a great combo, several times I have used my benediction immediately after a Paladin in my group used his 2hr. If you dont have a Paladin to use his 2hr it takes 5-6 provokes to generate enough hate to get the mob off of you.

Range??
# Jan 15 2004 at 8:47 PM Rating: Decent
I used this earlier and, even though the party was well within range for Cure spells, none of them were healed by Benediction! Is this a fluke or has anyone else noticed this? We ended up survivng only b/c we were right near a zone... It was fairly embarassing...
500
# Dec 27 2003 at 7:51 PM Rating: Default
The max it can heal is 500 to each party member. I believe this is correct.

paladins are better meatshields then warriors, although both can get the job done well.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 03 2003 at 4:06 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) BLM get it too ...i thought this job ability did something totally different...i thought i could cast without using mana for a few mins with this
RE: Benediction
# Dec 27 2003 at 7:50 PM Rating: Default
Black mages get Manafont. That ability lets them cast spells without the cost of mana. Benediction is strictly for WHM's only.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 04 2003 at 6:09 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) "BLM get it too...?" What are you talking about? BLM does receive the ability Benediction, unless they do some like lvl 70 or something and if they do, that's totally ruining the their class and job because the main job of a BLM is to do offensive spells, not healing and curative spells.
Lifesaver, but...

This ability can really safe you from certain doom, and I find myself not needing to use it often, so the 2 hour reuse is not a problem.

However, be very very weary using it right after a warrior provokes, or if you are totally out of mana. It draws some very very serious agro.
RE: Lifesaver, but...

The real thing about Benediction is that it practically puts all the hate on the white mage that casted it. The best time for a white mage to cast Benediction and actually SURVIVE the same battle is only if: the monster(s) that your party is dealing with are almost dead or just by luck as in having such high eva, or defense that you were able to take attacks while the rest of your party was able to take out the monster(s).
I think I have used this ability when my party was in complete choas and all the mages have no mp and it was all up to the tanks, who were low on hp. Unfortunately, this has happen to me 3 times, where after I used benediction, all the mosnters went after me until I died. 3 Different warriors trying to provoke the monster couldn't get it off my back and of course, we were battling monsters that were either Very Tough or Incredibily Tough, so a white mage most likely could take about the most is 5 hits from a monster of that status.
This is what I say, Warriors were made to be the meat and to take attacks and were meant to sacrifice themselves for their party. Benediction is when the white mage decides to have everyone in their party actually survive the battle, but is asking Death to come take them away.

Paladin's Invincibility supposedly generates more hate than this, so... if you've got a Paladin in the party, drop a subtle hint into your Benediction macro.

Anyone know if a warrior constantly provoking up to the point where you use Benediction will make a difference?
Start with it...

Every white mage gets this at level 1. Go to your Abilities then Job abilities then Benediction should be right there. It has a 2hour recast time though.

Benediction is a Job Ability, not a spell. Every job has a special starting Job Bility that takes two hours to recharge (commonly referred to as "two-hours"). Benediction draws a severe amount of aggresion. It can take more than five provoke attempts to pull an enemy off of a white mage after using Benediction. The Paladin "two-hour" (Invincible) is the only thing that I know of that will draw more aggression than Benediction.
