If I may clear something up...it's fairly sad.

Procedure for using SEARING light, not Ruby or Seering, or Shearing:

1) Summon Carbuncle.
2) Tell Carbuncle to attack Target.
3) Activate Astral Flow (/ja "Astral Flow")
4) Open the quick menu (select on Target)
5) Go to "Ability" then "Pet Command" then "Blood Pact" then "Searing Light" OR type /pet "Searing Light"

And boom, watch Carby kill himself (and your MP) to utterly destroy the creature you're fighting.

At level 16, with summoning level 45, this does approximately 170 damage vs. Incredibly Tough. Against monsters weak to light (Goblins, Bats, etc) it does about 210 damage. It's insane.

I thought it was called "Nearing Delight".

Just joking.

The damage done also depends on the day. For Carbuncle to do the most damage use Searing Light on Lightsday. Use Ifrit's on Firesday etc.... The MP need is 2(lvl)+4. What that does is detemines if you actually hit the mob with the ability, less MP than that and you WILL miss. I have all Avatars except Fenrir, and I solo'ed them all.

Do you, or does anyone else, know if the amount of damage has anything to do with your remaining MP? If I blow away a full 90% mp on Searing Light, can I expect 9 times the damage than if I waited to just use the last bit before I run out? Thus, should I rest longer into the Astral Flow timer before making a second attempt, or try to get up and cast as soon as possible to get as many off within the timer?

Ok i might be saying sumthing wrong but plz dont yell at me

Anyways, To use Searing Light and get its FULL damage you must have 44 mp. If you have less than 44 mp then it will do less damage(depending on mp). However, if you have more than or equal to 44 mp then searing light should do its full damage (unless its resisted).

It depends on your problem if you would want to use searing light as fast as you can or not. If its not too bad, but still bad, and you have a whm and a RDM or BLM/WHM backup healing then you should feel free to use it over and over again. Now if you dont have any of these in your party, then you should be backup healing the WHM (so he/she doesn't have to Benediction). If its the middle of the battle, and its an emergency and the mob has more than half its hp and the WHM has half or less its mp than you should not blow all of your mp on the 2 hour instead help heal , or else people will die. But if the mob is at less than half or quarter its hp than 2 hour it and it will either die or have very little hp for your party to finish off. Now if you have 48 mp and your WHM has a fair amont of MP go ahead and 2 hour it.

When using your 2hr ability and commanding a summon to use their Overdrive (I like to call it) be very careful. To execute it run up to the mob, use your 2 hr then command your pet to nuke it, then stay there until its done. A commmon mistake is staying in the back row and commanding it to use its overdrive, when you do this the mob MIGHT draw hate onto you thus causing the pet's overdrive to be interrupted (cause the mob is too far away). When this happens you lose all of your MP and you can't useblood pact for another minute.

Hope this helps^^

Thanks, that's just what I was looking for. However, it now creates a new question: What's so magical about the number 44 for MP? The only correlation I see is that it's the same amount as the level 24 ability. Do Mind, Int, or Summon Skill play any role? Since it's an Area Effect ability, is ranged involved at all? I experiment as much as I can, but since you can only try every two hours that doesn't provide for a lot of trials.

OK i was totaly wrong about the 44 mp thing. The amount of mp it takes is 2*your lvl+4. So a level 1 summoner would need 6 mp. A level 20 summoner would need 44 mp. Sry for the confusion.

As for the power, it depends on your summoning skill for how mach damage it does.

From my experience as a smn getting the avatars:

In order for your searing light (or any avatar 2hr) to have full effect, you must be close (melee range to be safe) and you must have 44mp (at lvl 20) in order for it to be full strength.

I carried yagudo drinks with me, 1 or 2 when using my 2hr. If you drink right before a fight, your avatar will not be removed after 2 hr. Astral makes avatar maintenance free, and you will not have 0 mp for the tick needed to remove carby. Also it help you rest and gain back quicker for the next attack.

In total, I found I am able to get off 3 searing lights per astral flow if all went well. This essentially in a party is a chain of 3 easily. As 200+ dmg at 20 is alot. That's 600+ dmg for your 2hr (at 20).

You should use your 2hr whenever, as astral flow isn't really an "emergency" 2hr. too much time to set up and you will usually be out of mp needed for it to work when the "Use 2hr" call is made in a fight.

For smns doing their avatars at 20, one of the most popular and effective strategies is the 3 searing light one.
come on its not that hard

The correct name for this ability is "Searing Light," not "Ruby Light" and not "Seering Light."
seering light x ¿?

i launched seering light 3 times, uses all your mp but if you rest you can launch other time, and other, and other....

only need a tank to get all hits and give you time for rest (1 time) and resumon Carbuncle.

For me, it is called "Seering Light". In order to use this abiltity, you must first use your 2-hour, Astral Flow. After you use Astral Flow, you go to Job Abilties, Pet Commands, Blood Pact, and then select Seering Light. It needs 2x your level in MP to cast it, but it will drain all your MP. You can also set up a macro - /pet "Seering Light" <t> - that will use the ability.

I only did this once. At level 9, I had about 30 MP left, and it did a little over 90 damage. After I used it, Carbuncle un-summoned, and I had no MP. I don't remember if Astral Flow disappeared as well, but I'll be trying it out today. I'll let you know what I find.

Use your Astral Flow Job Ability on yourself - then from the magic menu Seering Light will show - did it last night - at level 9 it did 90 HP damage (which is all the hp the mob had left so it may have been more damage if the mob had more hp) and this was only half mana.
RE: Seering Light

Ummm... you do your damage regardless of how much HP a mob has left. That is, if the mob has 10 hp left, and you cast a 90 damage spell on it, it will do 90 damage, not 10. I've seen a party member with 60 hps die to a 200+ damage special from a pugil.
I think

I think you used Astral Flow from your Job Abilities menu - then you Go to Job Abilities - Pet Commands - Blood Pact - and it will show up under Seering Light.

Stareagle - will let you know tomorrow
HOW?

what do you mean by "go to Carbuncles abilities"? does that mean *my* job abilities or is there some way to invoke carbuncle's? how?

also does anyone know where to get this spell?
Carbuncle
# Dec 24 2003 at 6:46 PM Rating: Default
You have to use Astral Flow first, then go to Carbuncles abilities and use it, complete drain of your mp, and you lose your 2 hour but at lvl 1 you deal insane damage! I heard someone say they dealt 150 dmg, but I think they were at lvl 10...

Ok several point that the more intelliegent people on summoner job forum would tell you it youd post there:

1 its Searing Light. not ruby, noe shearing, not seering SEARING.

2. to use this: a) Summon Carbuncle
b) Use summoner 2hr Astral Flow
c) Goto Pet commands, Blood Pact
d) hit the big Searing Light button which only appears while astral flow is up

and astral flow lasts 3 MINS people. For god sakes do some research and not (my friend told his friend told his cat told Carbuncle told me)
