Fun in Sea Serpent Grotto
# Aug 07 2007 at 5:53 AM Rating: Decent
I just finished Tonko: Ichi and Utsusemi: Ichi. I turned in 196 Yag Necklaces and 9 Zinc and was able to unlock the quests. I had a PLD75 linkshell buddy help get me through it in Sea Serpent Grotto. It was fortunate for me to have the help cause I also had opened up the quest "An Undying Pledge". My friend battled the Glyryvilu while I did best I could to heal him. I was BST34/WHM17 at the time. Anyway he killed it and I got the Light Buckler. That will come in handy when I get my BST to 40.

It was a lot more fun questing for Utsusemi: Ichi than buying it at the auction.

Okay, since i'm kinda broke and my LS aren't doing any BCNMs anytime soon, which are the important spells...Cuz i'd rather get those first and then get the rest later...so which spells are the MUST HAVEs?

I traded Talib 84 zinc ores, which was enough to get quests in Norg. Rice ball price showed 155. I guess I should mention that I had bastok fame 4, if that matters !?!
I farmed about 4 ores, mined about 10, and the rest took all of my 300k to buy at various AH's, so you better be rich if you want Norg fame or a patient farmer/miner. But please don't buy Gil, you are making the game bad for all honest players.
Good luck

I've seen a monster use Utsusemi: san.

In Promyvion-Holla, one of the mobs that aggro'd us on the 4th floor when I did it last saturday, used it.

Gave him like 15 shadows.
RE: LOL

Ninjutsu spells don't count as 'magic' when you're near a mob that aggros as such. Meaning, you can use this spell near a bomb in Ifrit's Cauldron, and you won't get aggro, because the bomb doesn't recognize this 'spell' as magic. A lot of people who mine there sub NIN so they can do non-aggro, non-invis powder invisibility.

What are the differences between the Ichi and Ni versions? I would assume Ni lasts longer, but if this invis is anything like a WHM's or RDM's invis, the time on it would be random.
RE: Comparison: Ichi & Ni
# Jul 29 2004 at 5:29 PM Rating: Good
the difference between ichi/ni is the cast time, the recast time and the animation for the spell itself. just like all the rest. I havent used it enough to time how long it lasts but I doubt it lasts any longer (after all there is no Invisible II spell)

Don't get too amazed by it, japanese isn't an international language, and with over a 100 different languages in the world, you shouldn't expect a majority of the world's population to know a language that most people won't even need to use in their life^^

I can count to 3 in Danish, English, Finnish, Spanish, and German, but only the 2 languages i actually can talk have i ever had the need to use a number in.
How exactly do you use it?
# Jun 15 2004 at 12:22 PM Rating: Excellent
So once you've acquired the scroll, do you use it and you know it forever like a mage? Or do you have to keep it in your inventory when you want to use it?

Ninjutsu spell scrolls are just like white magic and black magic scrolls, song scrolls, and summoning pacts. You use the scroll once and it teaches you the spell. You can then cast the spell at any time.

With ninjutsu, however, in order to use a spell, you do need to have at least one of the spell's corresponding powder item in your inventory. This spell in particular uses the powder called "Shinobi-tabi," so you must have at least one bag of Shinobi-tabi in order to cast Tonko. Likewise, in order to cast Utsusemi, you must have at least one bag of Shihei.
i wonder

are the scrolls for the first versions repeatable? Maybe thats why they're so high, you can only do the first utsemi once and either use it or sell it. It seems like if you coudl do repeately people would just keep ding them over and over and sell them for 20k or something.
RE: repeatable?

STrange that the Ichi versions cost so much more. it makes no sense.
they are weaker, then the Ni, spells, so therefore should be cheapers... strange economy indeed
RE: blah
# Nov 25 2004 at 1:10 PM Rating: Decent
The reason for the Ichi versions being so expensive is the lower lvl at which you can use them.

Many rings work in the same way: Compare the Balance Ring to the Ametrine Ring. Both have Dex+2, but the big difference is the Balance ring is available to use at 14 and the Ametrine at 36.

Balance sells for about 15k and Ametrine for about 6K (on Bismark server).

If you don't want to wait for lvl 36 to get +2Dex, you are going to have to pay a premium.

Just my 2gil

The Tonko: Ichi scroll to learn this spell along with Utsumei: Ichi are obtainable only by quests. These quests require very high Norg fame so it can take up to 8 hours building fame and completing the quests. Because of this they are quite rare and come at a premium.

ok i am confused about these ninjitsu spells. i am hoping to become a ninja soon so i want to know what i am getting into. so is ninjitsu a scroll that you learn like a mage and it gets unlimited usage...or is it a powder you have to throw with limited ammo?
RE: WHAT
# Mar 26 2004 at 3:04 PM Rating: Default
its both

You have to use a scroll and use powders to make them work. cCan be evry expensive.

think of it like a bow and arrow. you have a bow now, but you need ammo "powder" to use it.
To Make
# Feb 03 2004 at 10:02 AM Rating: Default
From what I've gathered, to make this you use the following formula;

Earth Crystal, Grass Thread, Cotton Cloth x 2, Saruta Cotton Flower

It's clothcrafting, but I'm not sure what level you need to be. I would assume high 20s.
bit of info
# Jan 26 2004 at 5:14 PM Rating: Excellent
I posted how to do this under Utsusemi:Ichi ability you can see exact directions there.(as well as fame) http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?ffspell=399

and someone said Ni scrolls are more rare and costly? they may be more rare but are far from costly. Utsusemi:Ni (13k @Jeuno AH) Utsusemi:Ichi(150k @Jeuno AH). However I do not know of any place to get Ni or San spells nor how much better they are, cast faster perhaps?)

This powder can be crafted using clothcraft. Im at lvl 24 cloth and I fail quite often, maybe 3 in 5 times, so I assume its ~lvl 30 (when I succeed I get +.2-.4 to my skill). I got the recipe at home from a jp site, will post if I remember. but it uses several types of cotton and an Eaarth Crystal.

*edit* actually they deleted my post on that page.... dont ask.. for details on how to do these quests check out the "Sahagins Stash" quest in Norg for Utsusemi Ichi and view my post at the top

You can obtain Ni scrolls, i.e. Utsuemi: Ni from BCNM (burning circle notorius monster) 40. Since you can obtain this scroll a potentially unlimited number of times unlike Utsuemi: Ichi or Tonko: Ichi, the price goes down.

To obtain the Ichi scrolls i mentioned above, you need at least a lvl 20 char (ride chocobo) to norg, all three keys (to get to kazam), stupid high norg fame (160 yagudo necklaces), and a stack of silent oil to get them. It is not like the Warp/Drain quest where you can get enough fame in a day, obtain, and resell the scrolls.

Uses the shinobi-tabi
# Jan 17 2004 at 10:32 PM Rating: Default
What does the phrase "Uses the shinobi-tabi" mean? I want to know everything about a ninja before attemping the quest. Is this an item you have to use every time you use the spell? I dont quite understand...
RE: Uses the shinobi-tabi
# Jan 24 2004 at 3:29 AM Rating: Default
Yes, you have to use the ninja item bag shinobi-tabi every time you want to cast the spell.
RE: Uses the shinobi-tabi
# Jan 27 2004 at 3:46 PM Rating: Good
the phrase "use the tool __________" means it uses that ninja powder to cast. uses one powder for each cast.
Ichi spells have a 4 second cast time and 30 second recast time.

All powders can be crafted with a varying type of craft and lvl, tho its _usually_ more cost efective to buy fromthe AH. and if your lvlng a craft skill JUST so you can make your powders...dont its generally not worth it for those due o chance of failure.
