I'm a RDM 61 (currently XD) and really want to know if Gravity would be worth casting on Maat when I get to lvl 69? cause I'm partly worried about battling this old geezer from I've heard.

I read a guide to fighting him (though I'm no where near high enough to yet) which suggested using Gravity and several DoT spells and zoning to heal. I'm not sure where I found it, but I think it may have been on this site if you just do a little looking. Perhaps in the RDM forum.

Goodluck.

Pretty sure you can't zone out to heal...

Gravity is worth while tho if you are going to try to get in 2 nukes between casting sleep. After he casts a spell he will come to melee you, and you SHOULD have blink and stoneskin up, but you never know what might happen, as long as you have the MP budget for it I'd say gravity could help.
Gravity Test
# Mar 07 2006 at 8:00 PM Rating: Decent
Gravity has a good use on the movement aspect, when mages get hate, a Gravitied mob takes longer to get to them, thus, the tanks have more intercept time to voke it back.

I like the "Check" mob test,
cast gravity, then check mob again,
if a new "low evasion" message appears this should make you a believer.

If you need a little more convincing...
sample some Marbol type Mobs.
They Cast "Bad Breath" which, (amongst many other debuffs) occassionally gets you put under the Gravity Status Ailment. I suggest you check your stats, see if AGI is lowered or anything else.

These 2 methods should make anyone a believer in the effectiveness of Gravity on the mobs

(also if you sub BLM, try to set a macro with Gravity/Frost should make for many successful hits)

just a suggestion

I'm a Lvl 63rdm/blm, and this spell just doesn't stick as long as it used to, what can I do to help this? I've have tried my Wind Staff, and Ice Staff, and I have +29 to my Int. I really love this spell, any advice?

Gravity lowers evasion and movement speed. It is invaluable.
I would also say it lowers magic evasion because I can remember fighting Beetles in Altepa as BLM and I'd get 1/2 resists about 1/3 the time with a lot of INT gear, but when the RDM in my party cast Gravity on the beetle we were fighting I'd almost never get resists. It's definitely worth the cast.
(For those of you who are going to foolishly say that Magic Evasion has nothing to do with resists, consider the Elemental Seal improves accuracy of next spell, which lowers the odds of Resist to 0.)
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 23 2005 at 7:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) does not lower evasion. at all.

I conned a mob Tough and then cast Gravity on it, conned again and it became Tough with low evasion. Proof and fact. I'm not saying it will turn every mob to low evasion, but if they are borderline medium/low and you cast Gravity on it, it will become low. Easily tested.

Yes... we should definitely listen to what you have to say about RED MAGE SPELLS. Unless you happen to have a Lv 21+ Rdm you haven't listed, but I doubt that, considering your total ignorance.

Regardless, my second character was a Lv 30 Hume Rdm/Whm, and this spell definitely decreases evasion. Anyone with a parser can prove it to you, so don't come in and start spewing nonsense about something you obviously know nothing about.

you jump all over someone like there stupid for questioning something that is real hard to prove. show us some parcer data if you have it if not your opinion is no better then someone elses.

I am just about to turn rdm 21 and was wondering if this is a spell that I should be casting every fight or just occasionally.

I will be leveling in Qufim and then heading to Kazham.

I have had some very high level players tell me that gravity does not lower evasion (granted they weren't RDM but still). Does anyone know for sure whether Gravity has this effect?

If i were you. I'd just ignore anything your "high Level" friends ( i luv that silly phrase" ) have to say in the future. If they are saying that about a level 21 spell that everyone in the world knows makes rdm super valuable to a pt, prolly bought there character lmao ..

Seriously, It does lower evasion significantly :)
gravity lowers evation

from what i hear this is true and you cn also use slow because slow lowers attack speed not evasion.Happy spell casting ^^
wind?

checking up the icon I believe that Gravity is dark based spell? I am pretty sure this is the case, I am gonna check up again later on but I am not sure where to send the error corrections from here >.<

Anyone else have any opinions?

Once I got Gravity for my RDM (25 now), I couldn't help myself from not casting it. I casted it on every Pugil we fought in Qufim and not one person died in the party. This is a great spell to slow down the mob especially since pugils and other creatures can hit for over 140+hp in a single blow. Gives casters time enough to cast Cure II and III and the damage dealers time to get the hate back too.

No. Gravity reduces movement speed, and lowers evasion. Slow lowers attack speed.

You can use them both at the same time.

I recently hit 42 on BLM/RDM and am now able to use this spell on my Black Mage. It is an *incredibly* useful spell for soloing and for partying, you can cast it right before a skillchain so you can nuke and the SC can still be pulled off. Since I party with Bards we're usually far off from the fighters anyway so it would take almost 15 seconds for a mob to reach me after casting which is long enough for the fighters to get the hate back.

Yes, I should have a Red mage in the party with the spell and should have since 21, but it seems they either don't use it much or it misses too often for them. I think it's the convenience of being able to use it when you need it that makes me like it from the sub so much.

Unlike what a person said, Gravity does NOT cause DOT. Still, this spell is very powerful. This is one of the spells that allows the RDM to solo. Since Gravity lowers the MOB's movement speed, the RDM can run about nuking it while it trods behind. This method is called "kiting," and is used against some HNMs like Aquarius. However, like a person said, a MOB will build up a resistance to Gravity over time if you use it repeatedly.

Very good post im a 60 rdm on siren...the only thing i would add to this post is this: befor a resistance is built up to gravity you can use a combo of gravity, bind, gravity, bind, that buys alot of time and is very useful in kiting mobs.

I'm pretty sure this has a reuse time significantly longer than instant.... I haven't checked to see exactly what it is (I will tonight if I remember), but I've had it wear off of Snippers & Pugils in Qufim before I was allowed to recast it.

Maybe something like 45 seconds?

Recast time for me is 51 seconds (Red Mage at level 62).

yep im sure that you can't reuse this spell instantly. the recast time i believe is close to a minute because when i cast it and the enemy resists, it takes awhile before i can cast it again

this spell is very good when you're killing creatures solo, but if you use it too much on 1 creature, it can build a resistance (new update)

but i still love to bind, gravity, nuke the crap outa helpless gobs ^.^

Gravity should be part of your enfeeblement casting line up as soon as you get it. It lowers mob Evasion and can a vital addition in a party with melees who have multi-hit WSs like Monks with Raging Fists for example. I usually cast it last so that I can get the most out of it while meleeing heh. You want to cast it before frost though (If you have a BLM sub), because frost simply lowers AGI points while Gravity lowers a strict % of the mobs evasion which is based off of it's AGI.
Ghouly
# Jan 09 2004 at 1:33 PM Rating: Decent
Yes...from what I've read on other posts it definitely seems to lower evasion.

Also...found mine on a ghoul in gusgen mines when 36 dragoon was helping me with my skull...unfortunately...cant quite prove it yet.

You're on crack, ever hear of quading? You could easily do blm/rdm or rdm/blm and use this ability on a bunch of mobs, run in circles to make them get into a group and then cast stonega, firega, any of the ga spells. What I also used to do with my druid in EQ was snare, root. Then stack a bunch of DoTs and run far away from the mob and sit to regain mp and repeat until the mob was dead. I don't know if this could be accomplished since the root in this game doesn't last very long and has a long recast time. But if this gravity spells lasts very long you could easily quad even or stronger mobs with this spell.
WTF?!
# Dec 30 2003 at 9:26 AM Rating: Default
Gravity is excellent. This spell does a great job of helping protect your WHM in the party. Bind rarely sticks for long enough, but gravity slows their movement and does DOT.
