can't remember where I read it, but it's casting time is .75 seconds. It is a lightning based spell that raises dark magic skill. Stun gets you a lot of hate and is certain death for any rdm/drk using chainspell stun. The duration of the spell is just like enfeebles. It's based on the casters skill lvl and gear, what day it is, what element the mob is based on and the mob's mnd (magic defense).

It is alomost a instant caste, also if your a blm/rdm or a rdm/drk your fast caste makes this spell virtually with no delay
(Dont diss blm/rdm they get all the same level cure spells and will have higher int then a blm/whm + phalanx dispel etc.)

Alla says it is Instant cast, but it isn't.
Provoke & chi blast, that's instant. When you cast this spell the spell progress bar shows up at the top left of the screen. A voke or chi blast will beat out a stun before it reaches 50% in the HNM game, sucks for mages because it's the fastest spell we have.

This spell is probably one of the most useful spells in the game.

The ability to interrupt the cast of abilities like Blizzaga III or Gob Bomb is an obvious benefit (You can also stun the Nightmare ability on Diabolos I've heard).

With NIN tanks, there are times when they have trouble getting Utsusemi back up, in which case, stunning the monster at the right moment can give NIN the time to get shadows back up.

In the Endgame, when certain high level monsters use Chainspell and high level -ga magic, RDM/DRK shines by Chainspell Stunning the mob til its SP runs out.

In Ballista, Stun can keep a player stunned long enough to get a Bind cast on them, or let other players catch up to fleeing members.

Stun generates a good deal of hate. BLMs may find that Mob turns on them more often if you cast this spell alot, especially.

Bottom line, buy this spell. You will use it ALL the time.

definitely worth it. Same speed as Dia or Utsusemi Ni, which means like almost instant.Like said it can save a few butts stunning ancient magic/tier IV magic/ tier III -ga or certain abilities (Diabolos' nightmare can indeed be stunned). Besides the use for XP pt, HNMs, GODs and Missions/quests, it's also a good way to outpull others camping NM's. It is slower then provoke or charm, but still fastest spell )along with dia).

and it IS dark magic, thats why chainspell stun is great, but unreliable because RDM dark skill is crappy

This is dark magic, not enfeebling. I was using it a lot today in Yhoarta Jungle (sp?) to make the gobs drop the bomb, and it rose my Dark Magic Skill, not Enfeebling.

Is this supposed to be a Dark-Elemental spell? I know that it raises Dark magic skill and is based on that but it has a Purple (Thunder) icon next to it.

Yeah its not dark-elemental. Its like how Poison is Water-based but is enfeebling. If you try it on Lightening Day it'll last longer and have a better chance of working. On Darksday, I believe you have a better chance of just leveling up your Dark Magic Skill.

The element is thunder, but the type of magic is Dark Magic (versus Divine, Elemental, Enfeebling, and Healing).

It's based on the monster. I did it with Max Dark Magic on a Wild Rabbit and it lasted like 10 seconds. It's more or less for pulling NM's and Saving your *** when the mob starts casting things like: Flood, Freeze, Tornado, Burst, Quake, and the oh so lovable Flare >.<!

Does anyone have a duration for the stun at the lowest lev available with maxxed dark skill?
I ve heard mixed reviews about the duration of this spell.

The point of Stun is not the duration, its the effect. If this spell is not resisted it interrupts whatever the target is doing at that moment. In this respect it is just like weapon bash, only it actually works, where as weapon bash :( almost never works.

This spell is very very useful in the following situations:

-Stopping Goblin Bombs
-Interrupting Ancient Magic
-Keeping the mob from attacking Mages
-NM hunting (Fast casting speed)
-Stopping any other ability or spell that takes longer than 2-3 seconds to cast
-Generates a small amount of hate (comparable to LR about)

Stun is definately not an enfeebling spell for these reasons:

1. When used it gives you skillups in Dark NOT Enfeebling

2. RDM get all other enfeebling spells (except Poisonga) in the game, why dont they get this one?

3. Only DRK and BLM get it just like Tractor, Aspir and Drain

4. Stun and Flash are counterparts, added in a early update Flash is Divine, Stun is Dark, they are for PLD/WHM and DRK/BLM (this is why they are not in the first Strategy Guide)

Yes it really does cast almost instantly. Maybe about .5 a second.

Goblin reapers drop Stun spell so far ive seen in eldime some skellys drop drain-VIT but i wouldnt recomend hunting for them..tomb warriors/mages.
