Does this effect work with Soul Voice?

Not that I think anyone would use it like that if it did, just wondering how fast I could run.

very good question. Anyone know?
The math~
# Jul 10 2006 at 8:09 AM Rating: Decent
Just a little side note on those calculations, if you are comparing a BRD72 then also take a THF72, we got 45 seconds flee with our AF boots ^-^/

I myself don't feel like calculating all of this, I like Flee nonetheless, but maybe if someone does could you check what effects if'd have in this math-thingy?
I'm sure BRD will stay on top, but 15 seconds extra double speed is a whole difference.

AS A MATTER OF FACT - your fictional amounts are incorrect.

If Normal running speed = 10
Flee/Chocobo = 20
then Mazurka = 12.5 - not 15

Mazurka is the same speed as NIN AF boots (which are 25% faster)

Also - cast time is 6 seconds - which would mean that all your sums below are incorrect.

Actually, if normal is 10, then Flee would be 20, and a Chocobo would be like 15ish. Flee is faster than a Chocobo is. Thought I'd clear that up before someone calls a GM wondering why a THF went running past them so fast.
The math...
# Dec 27 2005 at 3:30 PM Rating: Default
This song is not worthless. Actually, AS A MATTER OF FACT, Chocobo Mazurka is the fastest method of transportation without getting on a chocobo or airship, etc. Let's take a look at the math real quick...

=== Speeds* ===
• Normal running speed is 10 m/s
• Flee speed is 20 m/s
• Chocobo Mazurka speed is 15 m/s

=== Durations ===
• Normal running is infinite
• Flee lasts for 30 seconds
• Chocobo Mazurka lasts for two minutes

=== Casting Time ===
• Flee is instant
• Chocobo Mazurka costs 8 seconds to cast

Here's a table for you to see it all happening. TIME is in seconds, BRD and THF obviously stand for "Bard" and "Thief" and PFT means "Percentage Faster as THF" to show the overall percentage of a lead that the THF has over/under the BRD.

TIME BRD THF PFT
------------------------------
0s 0m 0m 0% [BRD starts casting Mazurka; THF uses Flee]
8s 0m 240m 100% [BRD finishes casting Mazurka]
10s 30m 300m 90%
20s 180m 600m 70%
30s 330m 900m 64% [THF's Flee effect wears off]
40s 480m 1000m 52%
50s 630m 1100m 43%
60s 780m 1200m 35% [1 minute total time elapsed]

After traveling for one minute Flee is clearly faster. You will see, however, as time goes on (now in 20 second increments) Mazurka pulls ahead.

80s 1080m 1300m 17%
100s 1380m 1400m 3%
120s 1680m 1500m -11% [2 minutes total time elapsed]

At the two minute mark BRD has pulled ahead in distance traveled and overall is moving 11% faster than the THF. However, the BRD is about to have to stop for 8 seconds to recast Mazurka. As you will see, however, this doesn't slow him down enough for the THF to pull ahead.

128s 1800m 1580m -20% [BRD begins casting Mazurka]
136s 1800m 1660m -8% [BRD finishes casting Mazurka]
180s 2460m 2100m -17% [3 minutes total time elapsed]
240s 3360m 2700m -24% [4 minutes total time elapsed]
256s 3600m 2860m -26% [BRD begins casting Mazurka]
264s 3600m 2940m -22% [BRD finishes casting Mazurka]
300s 4140m 3300m -25% [5 minutes total time elapsed; THF uses Flee]

At the 5 minute mark you can see that BRD is ahead by 25% and would reach the destination first. Now the THF has Flee available again, but, unfortunately for him it is not enough. The BRD has to great of a lead on him and at the end of Flee's duration the BRD will still be ahead by 9% and then continue to gain from there into infinity.

330s 4590m 4200m -9% [Flee wears off]
360s 5040m 4500m -12% [6 minutes total time elapsed]

It continues this way endlessly. So to sum everything up:

Flee is fastest only if your total travel time is under 2 minutes.
Anything over 2 minutes and Mazurka is the fastest.

Seeing as how most traveling outside of cities takes over 2 minutes (usually more like 10 to 15 minutes as in the "Xarcabard and running to Fei'yin" example given elsewhere) it is much more preferable to have Chocobo Mazurka than to have Flee.

* Speed numbers and distances are fictional units made for simplification the example. Obviously you don't travel at 30 meters per second with Flee. >_>

If you're really bothered by the spell casting time, there are alot of gear at this point that help with lowering the time it takes to play song, like the Sha'ir body piece. That can help lower the time it takes and make you that much faster. >.>b

this is totaly being **** but... mazurka is less then eight second casting time. I'd say 5 or 6 seconds with wind instrument.

edit: I'm looking up info on this song up a few weeks later and saw i somehow forgot to say to maresuki GOOD JOB ^^ for the analysis.

ITS JUST A GAME!! ur not going to die if a stupid spell is 3 seconds longer thats the most nerd thing to do is argue over a game but not only that ur argueing becuz a spell is 8 seconds and u said its 5 or 6's seconds.. 3 secs dif is not going to make the world die stfu about it.

I'm going to post this here since more higher level bards are likely to read it than if I posted under Minne, Madrigal or Minuete.

When you spend merit points to increase minne, minuete or madrigal, it does NOT raise the song by one level (+10 or so points). Rather, it does what it says it will do and raises it by 1 (lousy) point.

spend your merits elsewhere is my advice, unless you're maxed in other catagories.
Wow. . .

Could anyone think of how fast a THF with Flee, Mazurka, Strider Boots, and an Anketon of their nation running through their nation? (THF can be replaced with: RDM/THF with Crimson Leggings, NIN/THF with AF Feet, RNG/THF with Strider's as well.)

Now, THAT would be fast movement speed!

oh something aspiring bards should know about this song: if you get hit, it wears off so don't plan on using it to run away (unless you're not the one getting hit)

I was thinking the other day, if the cast time on this song is ~8 seconds, would it be faster to sing this song, wait 8 seconds, then start running, or to just start running and not sing? It's like a math question almost >_< does the speed from the song make up for the 8 lost seconds you're singing when you could be running?

Well, you could test this out. Start at a zone, have one person take off running at the same time the bard starts to sing the song. See who gets farther within 2 mins.

If a Bard is 3 miles away from Jeuno running at 10mph, and another bard is 3.5 miles away from Jeuno running at 13 mph, assuming the sun/moon/stars don't line up which bard will get there first? >:D

I had a level 75BRD in a party I joined going to fight Garuda. Right after the Altep port, the BRD sang Mazurka, which lasted for quite a while. It's easily worth singing, especially when crossing large zones like the Deserts. It's not as fast as Flee, but every little bit helps. :)

great for farming and crafting time also since it lasts 1.5-2 min

if you cast marzuka as you arrive in bastok by airship, you will make it to the market zone first.

after zoning you cast marzuka again, by the time it is done casting, the other ship riders will zone in, but your song is done so they have no hope of catching you short of Flee.

oh and for the record, using a 74BRD/37THF I raced againt a person riding a chocobo. I played marzuka then used Flee. I ran the same speed as the chocobo and could not pass it.

therfore: Flee and Marzuka DO NOT stack.

useless info, but there you go.
Pretty Cool!
# Jan 28 2005 at 5:47 PM Rating: Good
this sounds like a great song but then again you could just get thf up to lvl 25 and use flee. But then again it'd be cool to get something up to lvl 73! ^^

i dont know what some of u are say how this is "usless". but i can tell u MANNY ways it is usful. 1)running thru a long zone i.e. quifum to jeuno. or runing from on spot to another(NM hunting).

and of corse the BIGGEST reason... your group member pulls somthing and *UH OH!! LINK!* then 4 mosters come at your party. *oh ne we cant escape!* DUN DUN DA DA!!! BARD TO THE RESCUE!

simply put.

now rate me up. ^_^

EDIT: oh yea to answer some of the post to where people are geing theese. they sell at chocobo people...i heard they are cheepest by the one in kazam

You can use this in towns as well. And it doesn't seem to be exactly 50% more than regular speed, more like 35-40%. Hopefully it will scale up a bit more with skill-ups. I would however disagree that it's "not all that impressive". It's a great timesaver when your whole group is on it and you knock several minutes off of your regular run time (say if you're TP'ing to Xarcabard and running to Fei'yin).

Sadly, this spell only works where you can normally ride a chocobo at. That means you cant use it inside any "dungeon" type area.

cities aren't dungeons... dungeons are anywhere you can find a treasure chest or coffer

exception: Ru gardens (sky) there's a chest there but you can also marzuka there (not inside tho)

If you have the ultimate relic instrument Gjallarhorn (+2 to all songs) or the horn from the new Alliance BCNM Harlequin's Horn (+2 Mazurka) theoretically this song would work like a group-wide flee.
