No matter what your enhancing skill is, it will always raise your defence by 10. And I believe, no matter what your enhancing skill is, it will always last for 30 minutes.

THe point is that teh white mage can cast protect on ALL of the party as opposed to just one person at a time.

What is the point of haveing this and Protect?
Always buy the -ra versions of these spells (Protectra, Shellra) FIRST, and place their single-target variants lower on your scroll shopping list.
The only real 'advantage' to the single-target spells is their faster casting time (1 second as opposed to 3) and the fact that they can target people not in your party. People not in your pt who Raise you will almost always follow up with the single-target Protect/Shell spells so you have SOME defense in your weakened state.
