This is the single most useful spell that DRK gets. Having the extra healing is nice for soloing or when things get rough, but the added HP for Souleater is just sexy. I've had some lucky returns of over 500 with this spell, but it averages 250-350.
Ok i read a lot about BLMs wanting this move, and them wanting Aspir II seen as DRK got this..
The truth is that BLM is one of, if not THE most powerful DD on the game when they have MP, there nukes are what makes a Dynamis simply good, or one of the greatest, the more BLM = the better you are. Simply put.. BLM do not need an upgrade.
Giving BLM Drain II is pretty useless, if they was to have this, they would prefer to use any other high tier nuke over it, i know i would.
BLM = Master of Elemental with dark magic support DRK = Master of Dark Magic with elemental support
So how come BLM want extra Dark Magic moves, but DRK cant have more elemental moves? I know elemental on DRK is pretty useless, so they gave us 2 new Dark Magic spells, makes sense to me..
There is one massive reason why DRK got this move, the HP Boost effect. When a DRK has more HP, Souleater takes off more damage, doing this move at full HP before doing Absorbs will boost your weapon skill damage as well as give you an HP boost in case you get hate.
This is what was intended for DRK, Dread Spikes and Drain II was brought in so people do not see DRK as an MP sponge every time they do Souleater, i remember trying to use Souleater before the update, and had to be very careful in a party when i was allowed to do it, doing it at the wrong time either took too much hate and damage, or was too late and wasted a weapon skill.
I have seen that in Dynamis this move is a godsend, my record so far, while using AFv2 to boost it, has given me over 450 HP, which resulted in me having over 1800 HP! :D When i told my friend this who is a Monk with over 1900 hp, they was shocked, imagine if i had used my Souleater with a WS at that point, it would have been potentially the strongest i ever seen.
The summary is, BLM don't need more moves, you dont see people say LOLblm DRK needed an upgrade, and i see that theres possibly new dark magic spells coming out soon.
I cant wait :) i hope this helps any DRK out there who has just got this move and not sure what its main role is.

Blm and Drk have the same cap in dark magic... So there is no reason not to give this spell to blms, except for what I've noticed so far- Drain II doesn't seem to do much more damage than Drain I... and since BLM don't really have much need to raise their HP (except for those crazy over-nuking tarus XD), it'd be the same as reducing the recast on Drain...
Aspir II, if it's ever given out, would likely go to BLMs, simply because BLMs MP needs are greater than a DRKs.
But then again, I was thinking Blm would get Bio III, and it went to RDM, a job with significantly lower INT and dark skill...
Either way, can't wait to finish levelling drk, will finally have every single dark spell in the game XD

BLM won't get it for a while, DRK gets Drain and i think aspir as well before BLM does, DRK is all about Dark Magic (dur) so if they come out with Aspir II they will most likely stick to that tradition and give it to DRK
Ya Drain II is significantly better then Drain 1. Absorb-INT helps out on Magic Attack so any INT gear is good to macro with this (Like AF pants). Most I've done so far was a Drain II for 497HP when i had 100%HP and used Absorb-INT. I almost had 1700HP! Think it was 1697.
Drain II got 2 main uses: 1. Use at 100% HP to up Max HP. 2. If low on HP can use Drain and Drain II to get back a good chunk of your HP.
This spell works well with Dread Spikes too.
HINT: I was soloing to do some tests with the spells and if you use Dread Spikes 1st, right before spikes wear, if your still at 100% HP use Drain II to boost your Max HP and as it wears off you get a HP cushion. Guardian 75DRK Server: Fenrir

Yeah, but seriously:
Tip:- Cast Abs-INT first, then cast Drain (if you're lower than 100% HP) and then Drain II. The ammount drained by Drain II is added to your total HP. However, this is only the excess HP that you recover.
For example:
Your HP: 1000/1200 After Drain II: 1350/1350
---------------------------
Your HP: After Drain: 1200/1200 Then Drain II: 1500/1500
Ofcourse, depends entirely on how much you drain, which is why Abs-INT is finally useful.. :P

I don't think this spell is really needed for BLM, but I have hops that it will set a precedent for BLM getting Aspir 2.
In my mind, this spell would not really be all that impressive on a BLM. "Oh, look, I raised my max HP for one minute." Since when is BLM about max HP, anyways?
Just waiting to see how much MP it costs to use. If it is low enough cost, it could still have a place as an efficiency nuke, I guess.
