This spell does notmake spell casting faster. It lowers the recast timer on spells. It also makes attack speed faster. I love it when people swear up and down something does what it doesnt do because they believe it does without any proof. Nins hate slow because it greatly increases their recast timer on utsusemi. Try being a nin some time and maybe youd get why.

I find this very interesting. I've heard a million times that haste does not affect casting time. Of course while you don't refute this belief, you do give credibility to those who claim that they "feel" like their spells come off quicker with haste. Just so that I'm clear as to what you're saying...your % bar reaches 100% at the exact same time with or without haste, but the spell effect itself takes place sooner with haste? If this is the case, I wonder if it would shorten the window of spell interruption.

you do cast faster with haste on, as you cast slower while being slowed (Why NIN's hate slow). It's as simple as that :)

Since it's not been mentioned - yes, the duration of this spell is three (3) minutes.

Well, on testing it out a couple of times it actually seems to be about 2 minutes and 59 seconds. But ABOUT 3 minutes nontheless.
What about ranged attacks
# Apr 13 2005 at 2:42 PM Rating: Decent
Does haste also lower the delay on ranged attacks such as attack rate from a bow, or a boomerang?

I would believe it would lower the delay time on all physical attacks, which *should* theoretically decrease the Delay on Ranged weapons alike. From what I've seen/heard/studied this spell casts anywhere from 13-15% Haste on the given user. By no means do I mean that it actually varies, just somewhere within that range is what I have seen, being that I lacked a stop-watch to see I can only go from eye judgement ^^ and we all know the Human Judgement isn't perfect.

it doesn't speed up actual spellcasts, only Fast Cast can do that...what Haste _does_ do, however, is reduce recast delay

Does this (and by extension, Hastega) cut down on bloodpact delay?

Also, just for the record, Light Spirit will cast this at level 40. It casts Haste after Shell II, but before Protect II (so it casts Shell II on everybody, then Haste on everybody, then Protect II on everybody). Duration is about 3 or 4 minutes.

Just to further note~
Haste doesn't speed up commands and job abilities. If it did 2hrs wouldn't be 2hrs anymore lol. Hence why bloodpact is not effected (because it is a pet command)

Haste does, however, lower recast times on spells, which is why ninja tanks demand this spell. I am not sure on the exact time lowered on this spell, but Advancing March (the bard's watered down hastega) lowers the recast time about 12.5% (1/8). Songs have a 24 second recast, with that song it is 21 seconds.

Hope that helps ^^

I was farming with my WHM buddy a couple days ago using a Beestinger for kicks. He casted haste on me and it wasbasicly 100 Fists in dagger form, with a slight slower shot. Really a kick to watch.

Haste only increases attack speed not casting time
so if your buying it because you want your cast time to be less, dont buy it:)

while i don't think it has an affect on the cast time for spells(if it does i haven't noticed it), it DOES decrease the recast time on spells. i have a /recast Refresh line in my refresh macro, and when spamming that macro while hasted and unhasted i've seen that the recast time drops from 17 seconds to 14 seconds. its not much, but its handy if your trying to pump out 5 refreshes asap ^^
Weapon Delay

As was stated earlier, Weapon delay is basically the amount of centi-seconds between swings, or the number of seconds times 100. 344 is 3.44 seconds, so really, the haste factor is actually around 85% (a nice round number unlike 87 you may notice) and just does (Delay of weapon) x .85 = Hasted Delay of Weapon.

Nice experiment and results though Fhathead. Good Work!

I was incredibly bored tonight, so I decided to attempt to quantify the effects of this spell.

At the time of the experiment, I had:
40 WHM/20 BLM
Level 99 enhancing skill

I used two weapons for the experiment:
Solid Wand (delay 210)
Holly Staff (delay 366)

I did 20 trials with each combination of haste/no-haste and weapon (solid wand haste, solid wand no haste, holly staff haste, and holly staff no haste). For the solid wand I measured the time betwen each two consecutive strikes with the weapon (timing from flash to flash of the attack) and divided by two; for the holly staff, I measured consecutive strikes.

I was fighting a mixture of bats, rabbits, goblins, sheep, and crabs in Valkurm Dunes.

I won't bore y'all with all the numbers (this post is already going to be long enough...) but the mean times for each combination are (all times are +/- .1 s):

Solid Wand --
Without haste: 3.917 s
With haste: 3.409 s
Delay factor: 87.0%

Holly Staff --
Without haste: 6.674 s
With haste: 5.813 s
Delay factor: 87.1%

As you can see, the delay factor of the two is within the tolerance of the measurement. So, it seems that the delay factor that haste yields is constant in weapon delay, at least when enhancing skill is constant. I'll do this experiment again when my enhancing skill has had some time and levels to improve, and post my results here.

Short version: haste multiplies the attack delay by a constant factor, approximately 87% for me (level 40 WHM, 99 enhancing skill).

by those numbers, haste will give a speed increase that will result in 15% more attacks over any given time period, and does not subtract a fixed number from delay, so there is no reason to prefer casting on low delay weapons to high delay weapons.

Delay is like 100 delay = one sec. So let say 250 delay is 2.5 sec. And so on. Haste does stack with the barb's haste song I am guessing.Hmm monk with all haste stuff subjob drg with those haste earrings. Barb song that increase attack speed and haste magic on. That would be like 100 fist forever.
RE: Delay

nice plan, but one fatal error.

if you sub DRG, you cant wear those DRG only earrings

In 40+ parties I try to have this spell cast on as many as 4 other party members at a time. The goal is that between this and enfeebles your party will build TP very fast, so if you can't manage 4 hasted pt members at least have haste constantly on the melee characters involved in your skillchains.

Again generally speaking I just go down the list of pt members and cast it in sequence, so it's easier for me to keep track of who still needs a Haste tossed their way (it can get confusing if you just wait for the 'X's Haste effect wears off.' message to scroll by in the text window.

If you must prioritize your Haste casting (due to low MP resources, low tank DEF/VIT, bad hate control, etc) I would choose Tank -> melee involved in skill chains -> melee with high-delay weapons (GAXE, GSWD) -> all other melee.

This can take a real toll on your MP so make sure you have juice handy or a RDM to cast Refresh on you.

Don't bother hasting yourself if you're a WHM in a party.

after level 48 things get easier on the WHM, as the RDM can help out with the Haste casting, saving your MP for Regen II.

Yes it would probably decrease recast times, while I don't have Haste myself just yet I recently noticed that Slow increases the recast. I noticed this on Drain's recast increasing by around 12 seconds, and Cure II's by around 2.

I don't know if either Slow or Haste effect casting times though. Maybe I'll look into that.

(Oops, misplaced this. Oh well. :\ )

Its probably not a static number, rather a precentage, so it would change with different spells

What does this decrease, i know it decreases the attack speed of weapons. If it's a set number or a % is an unknown factor.

But does it decrease the casting time for spells? and the recasting time for spells?
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 19 2004 at 8:17 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Whith haste cast. Raise ony takes about half a second to cast, so it reduces the speed by quite alot :)

Haste raises the speed of attacks, not casting. I wish it raised cast time aswell, but it's physical attacks.

Last as long an en-spell, which is around 3-4 minutes i think. Best to have a macros for en-spell and haste.
Percentage.

After self-Hasted, I feel my speed of using Holy Maul(26 dmg, 324 Delay) is very close when I was using Eremite's Wand(9 dmg, 216 Delay)
What Im "Guessing" is Haste I reduce my speed from 324 Delay to around 250. But I dont have any prove.

# Mar 10 2004 at 1:01 AM Rating: Good
From what I have seen so far on everything, FFXI reduces or adds a set ammount. It seems possible that this simply reduces delay by 75 or 100, making it VERY usefull for a low-delay weapon (such as knives). I'll have to try it out when I get that high a lvl.
RE: Percentage.
# Apr 23 2005 at 12:08 AM Rating: Decent
If Dual Wield works the way I think it does...

Dual wielding 2 150 delay daggers+haste would attack (2 or 4?)times every second? i really doubt that.

I just confuzed myself, but it would be a LOT if it reduced a set amount.
