Hi, im currently a lvl 45 WHM, and lately ive been MBing Fusion (I think its Fusion lol) skillchains against beetles in Western Altepa Desert.
I've been casting Banishga2 while the BLM has been casting Firaga, and I have been out damaging him! Obviously it's one of my proudest moments as WHM, despite the fact that it was overall bad for the party considering i lost a lotta MP casting it.
My query is, if i was casting Holy to close a Fusion SC agains a beetle (or any other enemy weak to light) would I be able to breach the damage of using Banisgha2 to MB by using Holy? or is Banishga always going to be better?

I have Holy now! ^^ I was a bit dissapointed with it, as it does not do as much damage as I had hoped it would. I am an Elvaan PLD, and I find that durring battle, it is unwise to use Holy because it eats up 100MP that I could be using to cure myself. However, in the case where as a PLD you loose hate, holy gets it right back for ya! Especially on undead. ^^

it may seem like holy is a waste since the banish spells are more reliable and cheaper mp. the biggest difference is that holy casts a lot quicker than banish, which might not mean much for most battles. but when you need to end a battle quickly before the mob takes the last sliver of life from the tank, it's a better choice than waiting for banish to finish preparing or waiting for cure3 to save him/her. also the speed of casting makes it a lot easier for a pld to actually cast it without getting interrupted. it could make a difference if the mob turns around and it's the only way you can get quick hate (you can't cure yourself if you have all your life still). then again most plds wont have the mp to use this unless they're taru (like me^^).

ok, so yeah, holy was definitely one of tyhe coolest , and in most cases, one of the strongest spells in a lot off FF games, but then again, the SMN job has always been the uber class up ubtil now *tear*

Compare the MP costs of Holy to the BLM ancients and you'll see why. Unless they triple (and then some) the MP cost of Holy, it shouldn't come anywhere near the same damage.

I have damage display on screen, and i wasn't engaged on a Goobue Farmer, but was going to try my first shot at Holy... I SWEAR it said "miss" and the goobue only was mad at me, and unharmed, was i delusional, but i swear i'm not.
Anyways, ican voice for the inconsistancies, cuz after 60 seconds I popped that Gobbue for 167 Damage. So 35k wasn't a complete waist for a WHM kickin serious but.

As far as I know, Holy has always been sold for 35k, and not 22k as previously suggested. The other day I was in Kuftal fighting Robber Crabs. Sometimes I'd hit with Holy for 160 dmg, other times for 6 dmg. My divine skill is only a few levels away from cap (lvl 54whm btw). With a Fusion chain, MB would also have inconsistent dmg output varying between 10 and 200 dmg. Of course, a monsters weakness/resistance/buff spells/level all factor into the equation.
On the negative side, it costs 100mp, and if you have blm subbed, you can't always rely on mp cost being reduced. Also, damage varies greatly.
On the positive side, Holy has about a one second cast time, so it's really good when you need to make a MB. Also, if you can end the battle with Holy, everyone has to stop and watch the pretty animation :)

Yes, that waqs a very cool effect, too bad you could never use it...or could you? I cant remember, but FFVIII's Holy was pretty cool too, I wouldnt mind seeing that in this game.

yes..... holy is inconsistant dmg is all over the place but banishaga and banish spells almost always range the same dmg..... and recast time is much less so you can get more off in a row... so holy is just good if you get aggroed and need to get some dmg in quick to even the match

You can pick up Holy in Selbina. I belive the price is 22,000, but I am not 100% on the price.

It's in Selbina, and in Jueno as well. I got to see it used against a goblin, and said goblin pretty much exploded after one cast of Holy.

Too bad I don't remember what lvl the PC was that raised the party that I was in, but in Buburimu Pennisula. My party was eventually wiped out by linking Goblins when we were trying to fight Bull Dhalmels. A PC came and raised us all. While in the weaken state, the PC was popping all the goblins around with Holy. One cast of this was able to kill one off. That has been the only time that I've seen Holy. I hope this gives you somewhat of a picture of how powerful Holy was ^^.

Holy, even with capped Divine Skill, is horribly and pathetically weak. It's too bad, considering it is the classic ultimate Light spell in FF games.
