Briefly, you are either in the wrong folder, or don't have permissions set correctly. Also, you need to be logged out when installing maps, to get them to appear correctly.

Might try the following thread. It covers most problems in detail:
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=1&mid=1263511591278238170

Also, I usually have better luck using the entire map pack, rather than specific expansion packs.
Map packs
On the above page, select All Maps and hit the Download button.

As far as I know, Windows XP does the same thing as Windows 7. There should be a folder in Program Files (x86) and Program Files that corresponds to Everquest. Try copying the maps into both directories. I may be completely off on this, but it's worth a try.

Are just trying to unzip them into the maps folder?

Typically that won't work with Vista with all the admin stuff.

If that's the problem then all you have to do is manually drag the files from the zip folder into the map folder and it should copy them over without Vista blocking it.

If you ever want to update any map info remember to open a notepad.exe in Admin mode and then open the map file from within the notepad for any changes to be saved or Vista will cancel all that out as well.

.... and yes, there is probably an easier way, but with Vista it's a pain and I know this way works, so it is what I do.

It's the Station Launcher. It screws up maps. Just easier to use the link to EQ to start the game.

If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 Here is an easy way to do this and dont have to worry about admin rights, notepad or any other garbage

Go google mapfiend and go to there site, it has a map pack of every single map of all zones ect,, in one package, so here is how i got mine to work.

#1 Mapfiend is a zip file, so download the whole package at the very bottom of the list of all the maps is download button, remember where you save the zip file.

#2 get yourself a free win rar program if dont have one, then find your mapfiend zipped file and just double click the file, win rar will automatically open it up.

#3 Now if your new to zip folders and win rar, you want to click EXTRACT then at bottom click all files/folders in archive
at very top of screen where has a window next to word EXTRACT (since i use windows vista this is what i put in that window) C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\EverQuest\maps then click EXTRACT, you will get a pop up asking do you want to over right all the maps that is already in your eq map folder, CLICK YES to all. Once done, start up your Everquest game TA DA you now have maps for all zones that when you open map window in game it will no longer be a blank window.

Your questions were already answered in this very thread. But here go again:

Details of Map File Contents
In-game Map File Layers
Setting Folder Permissions to allow installation of maps

Mapfiend Map Packs Select All Maps and hit the Download button.
Usng Winzip for you Mapfiend map packs

To find out for sure which directory, right-click on the link to EQ, select properties, in the window, select Short cut tab, check out the start in text box. That's the base EQ directory, maps go in the maps subdirectory.

I went into the link for Mapfiend and downloaded all only to find out that the link no longer works. Recommended trying Brewall's Maps.

Yeah, mapfiend's been lost to us for a bit now is my understanding.

Lots of player's in-game are happy with Brewall's work.

Fanra's is great for lots of things.

There's a link in the FAQ & useful threads about maps... which is a much newer one than this.

The Fanra wiki article Laird linked used stuff from the mapping wiki I created here at Allak's. Combining information from both pages would help a lot since both are lacking in certain respects.

Both pages link to my mediafire mappie.exe file. 1k downloads. I had a hard time finding a working link to download that pesky file. You ask ' where did you find the file?' From archive.org.
