If you planted a tree sapling on firesday, what I would do is feed it fire crystals on firesdays and then harvest it on firesday as close to the full moon as possible --- hoping to grow fire ore.

The main money-maker with the tree saplings is growing elemental ore (which is different from the metallic ores).

Basically from what I've read (mine are still growing) you plant the cuttings in a porcelain pot on the day of the element ore you want to grow, then feed it that same element crystals on the day of that element, and harvest it on the element day, if possible, near a full moon.

It doesn't always work but it will bring in big bucks if it does, depending on the demand for ore on your server. I would check the AH for all the elemental ores (under goldsmithing) before you decide what to go for, and pick the one that's most expensive. Right now I've got 1 wind, 1 dark and 3 lightning cooking hopefully.

You do fail sometimes, so to sort of mitigate my losses, I have one mule just growing saplings (from cuttings, in any old pot, by not feeding any crystals you get 100% success of growing cuttings into saplings) and selling the saplings on the AH for about 3k profit normally. I use any extra that I end up with (you often get 2 saplings from 1 cutting planted) to try to grow ore.

The whole process from cutting to ore takes forever, so any extra gil I get I use to just buy (or use my own) cuttings and start from there.

The Vanadiel Clock does come in handy for this, as it tells you the day of the week it is.

I'll try to remember to post the results after harvest.

you always always get saplings when you plant cuttings in any pot on any day and don't feed crystals.

100%. that's why no failures lol.

Whatever element your feed crystal is weak versus, is the same element of the day to plant.
Example: I want fire crystals (they?re so useful!) and, according to the elemental relationship wheel, Fire is weak versus Water. So, I would want to plant the seed on Watersday.

I am confused. Isn't Water weak to Lighning? So you would plant on Lightningday?

Fruit (Water) -> no harvest on Firesday
Herb (Wind) -> no harvest on Iceday
Vegetable (Earth) -> no harvest on Windsday

If you are not suposed to harvest when the seed is stronger than the day then this doesn't make sense. Earth is weak to wind, strong to Lightning so you wouldn't want to harvest Vegtable on Lightningsday. Also Wind is stronger than Earth not Ice

Fantastically done! I can't imagine how long this must've taken you, but I know I speak for everyone when I say thank you for a great How To/Foundational Guide to Gardening!

I do have a question though. I don't know if i'm misreading this or not. When it comes to "day to plant," you said choose the day of the week that the elemental crystal you're going to use as fertilizer is weak to, and in your example it talks about obtaining Fire crystals, which would require a Water crystal as fertilizer, which is weak to Lightning. So shouldn't it be planted on Lightningsday instead of Watersday or am I misunderstanding the example.

Thanks again for this stellar post!

Guys, a small tip for all the people who want to make money out there....
First, let me say that gardening can be frustrating, as has been posted on here already, there are several different results to each gardening recipe and even if you do everything right and SE doesn't decide to do a 340 hour update, you can still get rubbish. The cheapest and most effective way of making money from gardening is this:

Go buy yourself 10 Brass flowerpots.
Go Farm Goobbues in Pashhow until you get a decent amount of Tree Cuttings. Be aware these are pretty rare drops.
Plant the tree cuttings in the flowerpots on ANY day you want.
Check them twice a rl day.
Don't feed any crystals.
In approx. 3 weeks, you will have over a stack of tree saplings which sell for about 200k on Cait Sith.
Either use these to go for elemental ores (which are VERY rare, I'm about 2/13 with these) or sell em and have lots of money to buy different seeds.

Btw, I use gardening as a source of income, so my way is probably boring to you guys. I hope thatthis manages to help people get their expensive armor etc.

Just what i garden for...
If you plant tree cuttings any day any time and do not feed a crystal they grow into tree saplings within about 2 weeks, making about 100k profit.
I grow fire ores using tree saplings so i do..
Tree sapling on fire day in brass pot(based on fire) in bastok(based on fire so i've heard..) feed 2 fire crystals on fire day and harvest on fire day, everytime i did this i've gotten fire ore (500K each) down side is saplings take about 1 month IRL to fully grow.

- Again, with crystals, if you use a feed crystal that is the same element as the seed, you will get a larger crop of crystals. This only works for four crystals: Ice, Earth, Lightning and Fire. Grain Seed + Fire Crystal = Ice Crystal, Fruit Seed + Water Crystal = Fire Crystal, etc.

How does this work for Lighting and Ice crystals if there are no lighting/ice seeds?
