I'm having major issues with my PC version of FFXI. And everytime I call square they either blame it on anything but them or have my jump through hoops before they finally say "I dont know"

So. I've pretty much had it. I just need to know if anyone else knows the answer to this question.

Is there a way to play my PC character on a PS2 WITHOUT having to pay for two accounts? I know there's a guest sign in, but i'm worried about the regestration code for that game.. I'm going to have to pay for it. Which means i'll have to pay for two accounts just to use the PC character..

I need to know if I could have the character trasfered. I'm going to call square tomorrow since they can't make a customer support page that works to save thier lives.. :/

sadly im having the same problems.. after that recent june28th update.. they blocked some ports so now everytime i log in and select my char.. ill get right up to the black "downloading data" screen.. and itll just freeze.

you dont have to pay for 2 accounts, but now that youve opened the PC version and installed it to your computer, its useless.. you cant return it or get any credit for it while buying the PS2 version.. which i just so happen to be doing tomorrow.

Playonline said you dont need to pay for an additional account.. just set it up on the PS2 like as a guest..

good luck with your new "quest"

I asked a few friends about it too. I could care less whats right or wrong as long as I get to play my damn character without forking out more money ~.~;;

They said all I have to do is cancel my account and reactivate it on my PS. But to be honest your way sounds more belivable :/

*just wants to play the damn game ><*

It doesn't seem to be a problem if you're willing to fork over the 100 or so for the hdd. My cousin set up ffxi on both his playstation and pc. You just use your account on the login screen and there you go.

You can use your character on both the PC and the PS2, you can also swich them, i.e. One day you want to play on the PS2 and the next on PC, thats all good. However, you cant use a PS2 POL&FF11 id to create a new character throught the PS2. And before you go out and buy it for PS2, let me tell you, I have troubles too. My character doesnt load right (sometimes), theres more lag, the graphics arent as good, but it is easier to use, and as far as POL and SE saying its your computer, I got this after the big update because my character didnt load: POL "Hmm... Well your file system on your hard drive was corruped, you must have done something wrong..." Well, I didnt do anything wrong, it was their log in server that was messed up, and I was able to log in the next day. Anyways, they both have their problems, going to the PS2 won't fix anything. Save your money.

Well, it's odd, but I never really have any technical problems like the ones you list here. I believe that's mainly because I am a computer technician and I keep up with Windows updates, Antivirus and all that stuff. I recommend if you have tight space on your hardrive to run Cleanup Disks and Defragments on your computers. I used to play on my computer, which is temporarily down because somehow the MoBo (Motherboard) stopped working, so now I play on my laptop and it's always laggy. My computer is top of the line, I built it myself, so it's really fast and I never got any lag. But the laptop isn't as fast, and every turn is laggy. That might be some of the loading problem you mentioned jerkface, when that happens, do you let it sit or just make the game crash?

Apocripha, what IS the problem? You never listed it. You just said you were having major issues with the PC version of FFXI, but you never said what that issue is, maybe you can avoid going to PS2.

In the case you wanted to go PS2, I have installed FFXI way more times than I've wanted to, and every time I've seen an option that allows you to use an account on the machine instead of making a new account. I don't know if it's going to work like that for PS2 but I guess it should, that would allow you to use your PC account on PS2 and you wouldn't have to pay for another account, just for the PS2 game.

I do think that PC game is better, I know that PS2 controller simplifies a lot of things, but I'm so used to the keyboard that learnign anything else would throw my balance off, and I really don't feel like dropping a couple of buckarooes to buy a USB Keyboard for my dusty PS2 and then have to put the controller down every time I have to type something >_<. I'm waiting one more week for the stupid MOBO and going back to using my PC ^^.

Good luck with the PS2 if you make the jump downwards, and if you have any more technical questions computer wise, you can send me an e-mail at Ctabares@here-i.com.

Actually to be honest? I'm buying the PS2 because I play on my two friends who also have a PS2. It's true the graphics arn't as nice, and yes you do get a little lag, but it's not jerking every frame or spiking me every 2 minutes, or just all out stopping every minute.

My PC version is horrid. It movment is so bad I can't even play. "Oh well it's your graphics card" they say. Oh really? I update the thing, and they tell me it's not good enough? That's really funny since it's above the min system requirments. :/

Anyway, I think it just might be your PS2. Who knows I might have the same problem. All I know is, when I get on a PS2 with Haru, and I cast cute, it's instant. I don't have to wait 10 seconds for the graphics to catch up to my action ><;;

Deadlyscorpion when you play the ps2 version you dont have to put the keyboard down at all. I have the ps2 version with a usb logitech pro keyboard and optical mouse (tho i hardly ever use the mouse >_<) you can do everything using the keyboard just like on the computer version.

Hmmm... that can be annoying as well. I find myself browsing in AH with the mouse more than with the keyboard, though I must admit, other than that, the mouse's pretty useless. Oh, also when i want to change my chat settings I click on the screen, makes things easier. I would try out PS2 for the lag free enviroment, but I dislike the visual downgrade. I like playing on my PC because I built it to be fast, and the game looks drop dead gorgeous, but since ASUS has my motherboard hostage, I've had to play on my laptop, and the lag on the laptop is killing me, slowly. I called ASUS today and yelled at them because they said they would send me my motherboard on wednesday and I still didn't get it, called to get a tracking number and it turns out that they didn't send anything yet, so I yelled even more and they apologized, yea, like that helps me at all, and they said they would get on it right away and send it to me, but no express shipping... morons...

/Rant mode: Off

Sorry about that, I just know how much better this game looks on my pc, and it's looking the way it would look on PS2 but with lag, and I'm not liking it. Good enough to do what I need to get done, but not enough.

I switched :P Hehe ^^ I had no problems at all and there's no more lag for me! Whoo hoo! *dances*

The graphics arn't that great, but then again, I come from the atari/pinball days of video games, so eye candy isn't on the top of my list. GO PONG!

Ah, but still... I mean, I have the tools to make it look beautiful, might as well use them, right? I guess having the PS2 as backup would be nice, I could get the game from someone who didn't like it and just use my acccount, because I refuse to make a new one >_<. Hopefully I don't have to go through getting a new account and a bill, that would suck too. Anywho, how did you do the installation Apoc? Did it give you a choice to add an existing account to your PS2?

I've had the PC version since late december, but I might get the ps2 version. I'd much rather play while relaxing on my bed then sitting at my computer on this uncomfortable chair I have.

Hehee, that's the advantage I have, my bed and my computer are right next to each other, plus I have a nice leather chair to sit on, I got it from a friend that was opening his new business, bought extra executive chairs, yay me.

I tend to find myself playing both versions of the game quite often. Mind you, I was 100 miles away from my GF (all that changes this weekend). So on the weekdays, in the city, I would play mainly on the PS2. PC ocassionally, if there was some TV that I wanted on at the same time. But on the weekends, I'd go to where my GF is and play FFXI on her laptop. Laptop performance is bad. I can't even join parties, and can't convince the woman to upgrade RAM. So I spend all my weekends farming. But when I came back on Mondays, I like to hug my PS2 because I don't have any lag, and everything seems so smooth. My own PC is pretty buff, as I can run the game in 1280x1024 resolution, but I don't have it in widescreen(ps2, but going to build a HTPC pretty soon).

And widescreeen makes all the difference in the world, in seeing more things going on. Stuff like mining and harvesting points, what's going on during battle, and a bigger field of view. Only bad thing about my setup(s) is that I have to make updates in three different places.

Yes you can use the same registration code for both PC and PS2 versions.
If you swap the hard drive to a different PS 2 however you WILL have to formate the HDD.
When you first install the HDD for PS 2 FF XI is already installed and kinda ready for use.
On the Playonline screen choose add member and select already member and just enter in the same user infomation that you have for the PC version.
It will work with that same character that you have on the PC just you will have to setup the e-mail acct and redo your macros as well or any shortcut keys or config corrections that you had for the PC.

Also for people that have sever lag issues only in areas like trangori canyon the highlands or the dunes and you are on PC turn off your weather effects and most of your lag issues will go away.
{its under config,misc1 or 2 and weather effects.}

I play FF XI on three different PC's and a 2 different PS 2's as well you can add up to 8 members on any Playonline viewer.

We have 4 people in the house that plays FF XI

There is only one issue though you will have 2 copies of FF XI and 2 regisrtation codes for 2 different acct's.
So the yes you do have to puchase 2 copies of FF XI it comes with the HDD. :(

I switch back and forth. Personally I've NEVER lagged on PS2. Lag is usually created because of the refresh rate on your resolution. PS2 is purely a graphics engine and uses a lower resolution than is attanable on PC besides. So generally it will have less lag. Overall PS2 is a very stable platform for the game. The quality of your TV can also affect your overall appearance as well.

PC version can be prettier but can lag at higher resolutions if you don't have a strong enough video card. A stronger video card takes the pressure off of your PCU. Also keep in mind that if you get a better card you may need a higher wat power supply.

As mentioned earlier always stay on top of cleaning and defragging your HD. As the graffics are pulled from your HD this can speed their loading.

Obviously lower your resolution and turning off weather FX and such can help as well. Of course I'm making an assumption that you are having issues with game play. If you are having problems in the startup then perhaps your video card is using drivers that FFXI doesn't like.

I know they had a problem with some NVIDIA drivers earlier in the year. Sometimes the most recent drivers can be an issue as they may have new logic that game doesn't care for.

Wait, I'm getting a new compy, firstly, can I use my PC version again, or can it only be used on the same compy that it was originally stored on?

Also, if we also get it for PS2 (my bf and I want to play together) would we need two seperate accounts, because I refuse to hand over more money, this is already going to cost me up to £1000. ;_;

Can we not just both use the one that we originally shared? Or can we both log in at the same time?

I have FFXI for PC and PS2. I didn't have to set either up as a guest. My main account (one account) is the main account on both machines. The only thing is, obviously, you can only play on one machine at a time (duh.)

Yeah, you can use your PC version again. You and your boyfriend will only be able to play together in-game if you both have your own account... ;_; Sorry.
