Wow...wonderful story. I can totally relate to this story because I know lots of ppl that concentrated on leveling rather than exploring. I get ribbed from some of my friends that I've been at lvl 20 for the last few weeks (maybe months) but I've been trying new jobs, learning how to craft and trying to get my fishing skills up (AND THAT COULD BE A THREAD ALL IN ITSELF). I wish we could all remember that everyone's very first title in the game was "New Adventurer" and was NOT "New Leveler."

The FFXI community is one of the worst structured ones I have ever seen. LS are too easy to get (buy) and something that is supposed to build a community is tearing it part instead.

I think the LS concept is a good one but the quality memebers are hard to find. Not only that, keeping your levels close to each other is hard. I play with some friends from work and we are constanly saying, "Hey will you craft or fish for two hours while I catch back up to you?"

I really envy the Japanese players that got to experience that "freshess" in groups like that. IMHO that is what these MMORPGs are about. Building communities and friendships not climbing the XP ladder. It is hard to find those types of friends in the game it seems. Many of the close LS are carry overs from another/other game(s) and have been playing together for a while. It is hard to get a pick up party together and end up building a friendship. Maybe thats what makes them so special when they do happen.

We all neglect something at any point in time, this story is true & happen's all too often. One day we meet a new person whom we feel is a friend for life, but alas, the next day bring's new adventure's & comrades. Good story, ;'->

With all the screaming about the maintenance this has fallen from the front page and maybe it would be a good time for it to be seen.

I too can relate to this, my current LS friends were amazed when I told them what my crafting skills were, especially when my highest Job was/is only 25. I have not been everywhere myself yet, but I have seen alot of things and done many quests. It's not a bad LS design or anything like that, maybe, it has more to do with a need for instant gratification and stuff. Even IRL many people do not stop to look at what is around them, the journey is only a hindrance to the end goal. Atleast that is how I see it sometimes.
