Class not registered?!?!Follow

#1 Sep 10 2004 at 8:02 PM Rating: Decent
Hey all just wondering if anyone had any idea what in the heck this meant. When I try and log into the game from playonline, as it goes to full screen mode, it shuts down and I get the error notice Class not registered.

I played after the last update, and I added nothing to my PC. If anyone has any idea what is wrong it would be greatly appriciated.

Sounds like a bad DLL. Try using POL's built-in check files function, accessible from the POL account select screen.

Just a guess here, but I think it means you have to go to high school to play FFXI.

Is there a way to check and see if that is regestered? It should be, have been playing for 10+ months. I dunno, started getting this message Friday night and I've been racking my brain since. Even un/reinstalled the game and pol. Oh well, back to trying things out.

Your DirectX installation is messed up, or, worse, your COM registry is messed up.

Try downloading the latest version of DirectX and installing that and see if this solves the problem.

If it doesn't, your install of Windows is potentially badly screwed up.

Xeno,

Thanks for the suggestions, tried updating directX to no avail. Probably my windows. Do you know if there is any sort of a windows check up or anything? I assume my only option is to reinstall windows. Think I should wipe the harddrive? I imagine I'll probably have to. Thanks.

I just noticed something - you just started the game, right? So you should see the openning movie. That means that it's possible your Windows Media Player is screwed up (or at the very least DirectShow).

Try these suggestions for reinstalling Windows Media Player. Your other option is to try installing Windows Media Player 10 on top of whatever you have, although I dunno how well that'll work.

Xeno,

Don't know if you could say that I started the game per say. I did get into play online, but have the opening movie disabled. After I go through the POL menu and get to that wonderful screen that talks about not neglecting you family work and job, it dies. After I hit play there it starts to go into full screen mode and dies and I get the Class not registered note...the part that I don't get is that the error box that comes up isn't a Windows box, the box is labled Playonline Viewer. I did try the media player upgrade and of course, nada. I am horribly greatful for your help. Any other ideas? :) Thanks.

Did you check your files for FFXI specifically? I'm not sure how it is on the PC, but I know of the PS2 you can check either your POL files or your FFXI files. Did you check both?

Yup, did a check on both of those, even checked the Tetramaster files which I have NEVER even played. Nothing. Ran a virus check, nothing found....If this happened right after the patch I might accept it, but I played after the patch was installed....exhausting...I guess I will have to wait until after work on Monday and call squeenix. :( Oh well.
