In each and every one of the promyvions there are rare/ex items that drop, the 3 that I've seen are called:
Recollection of Guilt
Recollection of Fear
Recollection of Pain
After obtaining one of these you trade it plus 2000 gil to an NPC in Ru'Lude Gardens in the building behind Maat. In exactly 1 game day he will give back another rare/ex
If you traded him a recollection of Fear, you will get a Psychoanima.
If you traded him a recollection of Pain, you will get a Hysteroanima.
If you traded him a recollection of Guilt, you will get a Terroanima.
These recollections can be used inside the BC fights at the end of Promyvions. The Psychoanima causes the message to show up:
"The XXX was intimidated by YYY." For about 30 seconds. It essentially makes the mob just paralyzed for a good amount of time, allowing you to do damage without taking any. For the Promy-Holla fight, this would be great during the AoE stage.
The Hysteroanima does something else, because it is another weakness. I used it last night in Promy-Holla but I couldn't find out what exactly it did. My guess is that it became weaker to my Magic spells.
Here's how you _really_ beat promyvion: get a 6 person party to the 2nd floor of each promy. Then, just farm memories and recollections until everyone in your party has a recollection of some sort. Everyone goes to Ru'Lude and trades the recollection to get a special anima. This full 6 person party then joins an alliance to make it to the BC.
If 6 people have anima, each promy BC fight will be a joke. When I did Promy-Holla last night, two people had anima in my party. We got the mob down to 50% before anyone even got hurt once -- it was paralyzed and weakened the whole time.
Let's see what everyone else's ideas are?

WoW, excellent info. I have died on the BCNM in holla 3 times now.
Dem was a snap though, and Mea ive only been on the first floor. Give it time for all NA's to really get into the Exp Packs. Alot of people are just signing on today and late last night. But as far as these things go, thanks for the info, i was wondering what i did with those EX memories. woooot. Holla is toast tonight. Rate up

I apologize if this question is off topic, but could anyone clarify as to whether or not the rare/ex recollections are dropped on the first floor? Or is the best bet to head up to the second floor as the OP mentioned?

My party is wondering the same thing you are.

It is our intention for each member to have at least 2 before we even enter the BCNM.
I know alot of people have already completed all them without using them, but many many more have died trying even the first one. So we chose slow and sure.

Yes you can get them on the first floor.
If you go solo or with 1 other person then stay on the first floor.
The drop rate greatly diminishes with the more people you have in your party, that's why I recommend the 2nd level.

Thank you Sarchar, much appreciated. I seemed to recall seeing some drop on the first floor, but I didn't to be incorrect and waste hours waiting for one. Thank you.
I should note that certain mobs drop the items, also.
For example, I've NEVER had a rare/ex drop from the Wanderers.
In fact, the only two mobs I saw rare/ex drop from are the Seethers and the Thinkers/Cravers/Gorgers (depending on which promy you are in). Thinkers = Holla, Cravers = Mea, Gorgers = Dem.
Yes, a THF with TH will help.
Another reason why I suggest the 2nd floor is because there is only 1 of the thinker/craver/gorgers on the 1st floor in each promy. Slow, slow way to farm waiting on that 1 mob to spawn.

Well I have had Wanderers drop memories. My first trip to promyvion-Dem I went in solo to see what it was like and took on a couple of wanderers and got a recollection of guilt.

It's likely that all the mobs drop the same items. It has been my experience that the bigger the mob the more likely the drop ^_^

I want to take the rest of my linkshell through these fights as easily as possible and I really like your idea of gathering all the Animas. What I need to know is, do only the Memory Recepticle balls drop these things? If not any idea of what else might? A few of my LS officers will be with me through all the Promy's and I want to get at least us all three animas. I might be able to solo the balls if I'm really careful, but if there's another way, a PT would be much easier. Thanks in advance!

Hmm, personally I'm not using them because I don't have CoP installed. As for other people, I'd imagine they haven't been to those zones more than a couple times, and haven't had a chance to learn about these things.
I'm sorry, but the way you said 'only specific things drop the recollections' sounded a little rude. The only thing I've gotten recollections from happened to be Wanderers, and I believe once a Weeper but that's unconfirmed (we were having a bit too much fun, ahem o.o). As it may not happen for you doesn't mean it's the only answer.
...I don't think he was rude anywhere...but ok...I think this is great info for people to be testing out. We'll have this Promyvion stuff figured out in no time if people post what they've found! ^_^ Ihaven't been able to beat it yet...sooo...I would love to know how to do it easily :-P If there IS an easily...but hey. All I get are those silly memories (not rare/ex ones). Keep it up guys!
More effective method, bring 3 RNGs, a PLD and 2 mages. Have the RNGs attack it to about half health. Then have all three RNGs use eagle eye shot, the PLD uses invincible, then all the RNGs use Barrage. If it isnt dead, just wail on it until it is.

2)Delete Boss's HP almost 80%, BOSS's counter-strike becomes stronger.
So---
DO NOT USE WS or WS chain or elemmental magic BEFORE delete BOSS'S HP 80%.
And after use WS chain, elemental magic.
Easy to defeat them.
I had helped 6 bosses and all defeat them.

Ok I just went farming for recollections
I went to Promyvion-Holla and got a Recollection of Fear (is that the only one you can get from Holla?) from farming Wanderers (so yes, first floor wanderers drop them.. i was about to give up to).

Tried trading a Recollection of Pain from Promyvion Dem to Harith (the black robed scientist guy), and nothing happened. Tried also trading it along with 2k gil, nothing. Talked to him several times, nothing.

well talk to the guy before you try trading
then trade him 2000gil + a recollection (only one) at the same time

OK this is from personal experience farming in Promyvion - Dem. On level one i was able to abtain 2 different rare/ex recollections(cant remember which ones) one from the big slow type mobs(cant recall name) and one from the mobs that are kind of quadroped-like and use a nasty poison attack that almost killed me. so yes more than one rare/ex can be gotten from the same place and from more than just the hardest type mobs. I have yet to get the drop for the map but ill be farming there till i can get it :D.

You use it like you would food. Go to items, select the anima and choose use. It will highlight the mob and you just press enter and it will use it on the boss.
