Saboruto's guide to getting fast, cheap, easy fame.Follow

#1 Oct 14 2004 at 8:22 AM Rating: Excellent
In Windurst, Bastok and San d'Oria! Originally I had planned on doing all five nations before I posted (Windurst, San d'Oria, Bastok, Jeuno and Norg) but it's taking a while for each town, so I'm adding them one at a time. I'll keep this thread updated though and add the other three kingdoms later.

Anyway, the reason I'm doing this guide is because, after starting a new character, I realised how much it completely sucks to have to do all those same quests over again. But I needed fast fame in each kingdom so I could get Tari back to the point Sabo's at, fame-wise. I'll look forward to having fun with the quests again later, but right now all the NPC shops are over-charging me and it's biting into my crafting money.

So, I've spent a lot of time lately doing the "easy" fame quests. The ones you can do with nothing more than a quick stop at K-mar...er, the Auction House. I'm not overly fond of repeatables since they seem to count for so much less than unique quests, but sometimes it's faster and easier to repeat the same quest over and over when you've run out of easy uniques to do. Some of the quests I've listed are repeatables, most are uniques. All of them have very mild requirements for completion and most of the required items for them can be purchased cheaply or farmed quickly. Instead of just saying "do this repeatable over and over", I wanted to make a list of all the quests that can be completed quickly, since it's my opinion that doing unique quests is ultimately faster for pumping up your fame than doing one repeatable a billion times.

I've provided links to Allakhazam's quest database so that you can see more details on the quest as well as find out what NPC offers it and where. I'll give a rundown of each quest, what items it requires (if any), where (in my opinion) the best place to get the items is, whether the quest is repeatable or not, and what reward you can expect. Many of these "easy" quests have great rewards, which is another reason not to just pick one repeatable and, erm, repeat! So, here's my guide to getting fame as quickly as possible, with the least dent on your time and gil. Onward!

Windurst
A Discerning Eye - No item requirement. Each of the three nations has one of these quests (as well as Kazham, which counts for Windurst fame though I'm not going to list it twice), but you'll have to have an airship pass to take advantage of it. There is absolutely NO reason not to do the Discerning Eye every time you fly to Jeuno, since it will more than pay for your airship ticket and get you a little fame too! Repeatable. Reward: 500 gil.

Chocobilious - Papaka Grass x1. Requires a sprig of papaka grass which is a somewhat rare drop from dhalmels in Tahrongi Canyon/Buburimu Peninsula, or can be dug up via chocobo digging in Tahrogi Canyon. Papaka grass is fairly cheap on the AH in Windurst. Reward: 1500 gil.

Creepy Crawlies - Crawler Calculus x3 OR Silk Thread x3. Crawler Calculi drop from crawlers in East/West Sarutabaruta, pretty common drop. On my server they generally sell for either 200 or 300 gil at the AH, so you might get lucky and break even on the quest. For the love of god, don't turn in silk threads for this. Repeatable. Reward: 600 gil.

Curses, Foiled Again! - Bomb Ash x1, Bone Chip x2. Shantotto wants a Bomb Ash and two Bone Chips. Any bomb-type enemy drops the ash, and any skeleton-type mob drops bone chips, which can also be dug up or excavated in Tahrongi Canyon. The required items are worth more than the reward, but it's a quick and easy quest if you hit the AH for the items or have them on hand. Reward: Brass Rod.

Flower Child - Lilac x1. I love these quests, they're quick and easy and have a useful reward. Lilacs can be bought in Upper Jeuno for about 70 gil, or on the AH for about 300 gil (on Fairy). Definitely worth doing, very very easy. Reward: Exit to any Windurst zone from your mog house.

Glyph Hanger - No item requirements. Pretty simple, just have to run out to one of the Horutoto Towers in East Sarutabaruta and back again. No-cost, easy quest with a good reward. Reward: Map of the Horutoto Ruins.

In A Pickle Smooth Stone (rare/EX) x1. Oh god how I hate that little taru ***** Chamama. I think she's actually using all these rocks to build a little taru fortress from which to wrest control of Windurst from the Star Sibyl. The only reason this quest is listed is because you'll probably pick up a smooth stone every time you go out to fight crawlers in Sarutabaruta. She'll reject most of them, apparently they're not good enough to be elite "pickle-barrel-holding-shut" stones. But, if you've got one you might as well turn it in, you might get lucky and kill the quest off your log. Repeatable (as if you'd want to, don't help this hateful cow take over my beloved hometown!). Reward: Bone Hairpin, then 200 gil for each repeat.

Inspector's Gadget! - Saruta Cotton x4. The names of these quests are just getting lamer. Anyway, this is one of the SOB quests, the wee crime-fighting squad will send you to (dun dun DUNNN) Chamama, who will require four saruta cottons. These drop off Pygmaiois in Tahrongi Canyon, or can be stolen from Pygmaiois in the canyon or Mandragoras in Sarutabaruta. I wouldn't buy the cotton, it's pricey. Easiest just to whack a few onions whenever you're in Tahrongi, until you have four to complete the quest. Reward: Heko Obi

Know One's Onions - Wild Onion x4. Another SOB quest, but with a much better reward. They want four wild onions, which drop off the lowbie goblins in Sarutabaruta or Horutoto Ruins (among other places). Worth doing, if only for the reward. Reward: Scroll of Blaze Spikes.

Making The Grade - Test Anwers x1. This is the Windurst version of the Warp/Drain quests. And as with those quests, it's easiest just to stroll over to the AH to buy the item. The item required is a Test Answers, that drops from Wendigos (skeletons) in Horutoto Ruins. On my server, last I checked they were going for 5k, WELL less than the price of the scroll. Reward: Scroll of Aspir.

Mandragora-Mad - Four-leaf Mandragora Bud (rare/EX) x1 OR Yuhtunga Sulfur (rare/EX) x1 OR Cornette x1 OR Three-leaf Mandragora Bud (rare/EX) OR Snobby Letter (rare/EX). This is my favourite of the Windurstian repeatables, since you don't have to zone out to repeat it, and you can buy Cornettes from Harmodio's Music Shop in Bastok (when Bastok isn't in last place). Alternately, yuhtunga sulfurs drop off Pygmaiois in Tahrongi Canyon, four-leaf buds drop off Pygmaiois in Tahrongi or Mandragoras in Sarutabaruta, and Cornettes drop off Mandragoras in Sarutabaruta. The other two items are harder to get... the three-leaf bud drops off yuhtunga mandragoras in the Kazham jungles and the letter drops off the mandragoras in Boyahda Tree. Your best bet is to either buy up a full inventory's worth of Cornettes in Bastok and turn them in (a mule or an airship pass/Warp helps for this) or just whack the onions you see in Tahrongi and Saruta when you pass through. Repeatable. Reward: 120 gil (4-leaf bud), 250 gil (sulfur), 200 gil (cornette), 1200 gil (3-leaf bud), 5500 gil (letter).

Paying Lip Service - Beehive Chip x3 OR Remi Shell x2. This is a nice, easy, costly one. Beehive chips drop from pretty much every bee in the game, remi shells drop from the crabs in Sarutabaruta. It's repeatable, but your best bet (unless you're farming shells) is to do it once and forget it. Repeatable. Reward: 150 gil (beehive chips), 200 gil (remi shells).

Something Fishy - Bastore Sardine x1. Something about wanting to check the sardines to see how well the fish are biting, or something. I didn't get it. Anyway, this is a cheap cheap repeatable if you're desperate, since you can buy the sardines at the Fishing Guild where the NPC is, for about the same amount as the quest reward. The drawback is you have to zone out to repeat it. Worth doing any time you're running through Port Windurst though. Repeatable. Reward: 70 gil.

Teacher's Pet - Two-leaf Mandragora Bud (rare/EX) x1 AND Bird Feather x1. This one's nice if you're farming Sarutabaruta for crystals or leveling a lowbie job. The 2-leaf buds drop like crazy from Mandragoras in Sarutabaruta and Pygmaiois in Tahrongi, and bird feathers drop off pretty much every bird-type mob in the game. I wouldn't go out of my way to farm the items specifically, but if you have them turn them in for a tidy sum of gil. Repeatable. Reward: 250 gil.

The All-New C-2000 - Two-leaf Mandragora Bud (rare/EX) x1 AND Rabbit Hide x1 AND Insect Wing x1. These NPCs come up with some weird-*** reasons for giving us quests. This little taru guy wants to teach cardians to track monsters by scent, so he needs items from the common newbie enemies outside Windurst to teach them what a bee smells like, or something. Anyway, same as above, I wouldn't go out of my way to farm the items but it's worth it if you're in the area. 2-leaf buds are, again, from onions in Sarutabaruta and Tahrongi. Rabbit Hides drop from every rarab enemy known to man, and insect wings... Well, let's just say I'm working on finding what quest rewards you with a Scroll of Barinsectwingra. Repeatable. Reward: 200 gil.

The Postman Always K.O.s Twice - Muddy Bartab (rare/EX) AND/OR Torn Epistle (rare/EX) AND/OR Damp Envelope (rare/EX) AND/OR Odd Postcard (rare/EX). The reason I list this one is because these mail items drop regularly from the rarabs in Sarutabaruta and Tahrongi, so it's quick and easy fame if you're farming the areas. The reward gets better the more of them you turn in at once, but since we're doing this for fame, turn them in separately. That way, instead of hoarding them up for 500 gil, you can turn them in and get four repeatables out of it at 200 gil total instead. Repeatable. Reward: 50 gil (one item), 150 gil (two items), 250 gil (three items), 500 gil (all four).

To Bee Or Not To Bee? - Honey x5. Honey's relatively cheap, the reward's relatively useless, but it's a quick quest that you can complete thanks to the miraculous powers of the auction house. If you're in a farming mood, honey drops from every bee that ever lived. Reward: Mulsum x3 (used to be four, they changed it recently I'm told).

Truth, Justice & the Onion Way! - Rarab Tail x1. Yay, I love the SOBs! Anyway, for this first SOB quest, you need to provide them with a tail. A rarab tail. Which isn't actually a tail at all but a kind of pea. I dunno, don't ask me. Anyway, you can go outside and whack the level -1 bumblebees til one drops a tail, or you can buy it on the auction house for almost nothing, or you can buy it at the Cooking Guild for almost nothing. Your choice. Good reward for your lowbie jobs, I've still got mine from both my characters. Reward: Justice Badge.

Bastok
A Discerning Eye - No item requirement. Each of the three nations has one of these quests, but you'll have to have an airship pass to take advantage of it. There is absolutely NO reason not to do the Discerning Eye every time you fly to Jeuno, since it will more than pay for your airship ticket and get you a little fame too! Repeatable. Reward: 500 gil.
A Flash In The Pan - Flint Stone x4. Come on baby light her fire. Aquillina wants some flint stones to start her fire with. The only annoying part about this quest is only one person can do it every 15 minutes, so if someone else is doing the quest you might want to move on until later. Flint stones drop from worm-type enemies, can be mined, dug up on a chocobo, or bought for cheap at the AH. Repeatable. Reward: 100 gil.

A Foreman's Best Friend - Dog Collar (rare) x1. Dog collars drop from black wolves, the undead hounds of North Gustaberg. When I did this quest on Sabo, dog collars sold for 3k each, so it was more beneficial to me to farm it. If you go to Stinging Sophie's hill in North Gustaberg, you can camp out at the entrance to the second "level" of the hill, where a black wolf spawns once/twice a night. During the day, you can farm wild onions and beehive chips and possibly catch Stinging Sophie herself. However, the price on dog collars has dropped to 1k on Fairy, so at least on my server it's worth buying if you don't want to spend the time farming it. It has a handy reward too, so definitely worth spending the gil or time farming. Reward: Map of the Gusgen Mines.

A Lady's Heart - Amaryllis x1. Again, everyone should complete these quests. You can buy amaryllis from the M&P shop in Upper Jeuno for ~70 gil, or pay ~300 to buy it at the AH in Bastok. Either way, it's worthwhile! Reward: Exit to any Bastok zone from your mog house.

Breaking Stones - Dangruf Stone (rare/EX) x1. This quest requires you to go to the Dangruf Wadi on a sunny day and find a certain rare stone to give the NPC. The biggest advantage to this quest is its proximity to several other Bastok quests, else I wouldn't have listed it. If you want to repeat it, that's an option, but I would only do so if you happen to be in the Wadi neighbourhood. Repeatable. Reward: 400 gil.

Brygid, the Stylist - Robe x1 AND Bronze Subligar x1. This strange little girl actually likes subligars. She wants you to come back wearing a pair of bronze subligars and a robe. O.O Anyway, you can pick up the subligars for cheap at the armour shop in Bastok Markets, and the robe can be bought (and immediately resold) on the auction house. Reward: Gloves.

Buckets of Gold - Rusty Bucket x5. Well, the rusty/padded cap hurt everyone but this guy. As long as they don't nerf his buckets he'll be fine. He's turning 5 rusty buckets into 5 shiny-new buckets to sell. I strongly recommend not purchasing these on the Bastok AH. You can fish them up (gil-saver, not a time saver) or you can buy them for so very very cheap in Windurst or San d'Oria's AH. In Windy these sell for 10 gil each on my server, in Bastok they're 300 gil EACH. Repeatable. Reward: 300 gil.

Drachenfalls - Canteen of Drachenfall Water (rare/EX) x1. I like this quest, because it overlaps with Breaking Stones and the Gustaberg monument for the Selbina Clay quest. If you're higher than level 32 you should be safe from all aggro (I found ONE goblin that checked EP-- to my 32 WAR). Easy quest if you're headed that way, and the reward is nice. Reward: 2000 gil.

Fallen Comrades - Silver Name Tag (rare) x1. This is a nice repeatable to do if you're travelling to Bastok from another town. Hit the AH and pick up a name tag if the price is reasonable. Don't bother buying them in Bastok, they're overpriced there. You can also get them off Quadavs in Palborough if you're in the mood for farming. Repeatable. Reward: 550 gil.

Forever to Hold - Brass Hairpin x1. Easy quest, especially if you have one of these onhand that you don't need anymore. Or you can pick it up at the AH or watch bazaars for it. It's a very low-level goldsmithing synth, if you're a crafter. Reward: 300 gil.

Gourmet - Treant Bulb x1 OR Wild Onion x1 OR Sleepshroom x1. I hate this quest, mostly because you have to zone to repeat it...or maybe it's the title it grants, "Mommy's Little Helper" ><. Anyway, the time of day determines which of the three items is the best to turn in, but you can turn in any at any time. Honestly, as much as people suggest this as a good repeatable, I wouldn't do it. None of the items are overly cheap, and it's just frustrating trying to zone in and out. I'd just do it whenever you have Treant Bulbs and leave it at that. Repeatable. Reward: 350 gil (wild onions from 12:00-17:59), 200 gil (sleepshrooms from 18:00-5:59 or treant bulbs from 6:00-11:59), 100 gil (all other items/times).

Groceries - Meat Jerky x1. There's a trick to this quest. After you've talked to the wife, if you look at the key item she gives you before you talk to the husband, he'll ask you to buy some meat jerky to take to her. If you do that, you cannot repeat this quest. However, if you DON'T look at the key item before you talk to him, you can repeat this quest any time you're going into Zeruhn (hello, miners!). Honestly, I'd leave the key item alone so you have this one to repeat, the reward isn't that great if you do it the "right" way. And the husband's running around the mines in subligars! What is it with Bastokans and their subligar fetish, anyway? o.O Repeatable, sort of. Reward: 10 gil (if you don't read the note), Rabbit Mantle (if you read the note and do this freaky family's grocery shopping).

Hearts of Mythril - No items required. This is another "run to this place and then come back" quest. All you have to do is run to the top of Stinging Sophie's hill in North Gustaberg, then run back. This quest reveals one of Bastok's cooler secrets, if you pay close attention. While you're up on the hill, if it's close to night time whack a black wolf for the Foreman's Best Friend quest and kill two birds with one stone. Reward: Sitabaki.

Mean Machine - Slime Oil x1. This is Bastok's equivalent of the Drain/Aspir quests in Windurst and San d'Oria, and can be completed in the same way. Auction House! Slime oil, while a little pricy at the AH, can also be farmed from slime-type enemies if you don't want to foot the bill. The nearest ones are in Korroloka Tunnel. I'd just buy mine on the AH since the cost is a lot less than the reward you get. Reward: Scroll of Warp.

Minesweeper - Zeruhn Soot x3. Another Zeruhn quest, you can do this and Groceries at the same time. Zeruhn soot can be easily obtained from any of the bats/worms/crabs in Zeruhn Mines, and since the quest is repeatable it's worth whacking a few bats on every trip inside. Repeatable. Reward: 150 gil.

Mom, the Adventurer? - Copper Ring x1. This is an easy quest, especially if you're zonehopping in Bastok anyway. You can synth the ring, buy it at the goldsmithing guild, or buy it on the AH. Any way you do it, the ring is cheap. If you examine the key item letter you get from the daughter, it cuts your reward in half (but it's kinda sweet, so I do it anyway...poor little girl ; ;). Reward: 200 gil (if you didn't read the letter), 100 gil (if you did).

Out of One's Shell - Shell Bug x3. I don't get this guy. He's got perhaps the strangest quests in the entire game. First he's too shy to face the real world, so he wants to spend all his time hiding in a quadav backplate. Then you have to infest the backplate with bugs to get him back out again. WhatEVER. You can farm the shell bugs for this, the second quest in his series, from the higher level quadavs in Palborough. Or, you can buy them from the auction house (the easier way to do it). Reward: Monk's Headgear.

Past Perfect - No items required. I haven't personally done this quest, but apparently it's a tricky one to get. However, my boyfriend's done it and it's easy, especially if you're ever running around Konschtat Highlands. The reward sells reasonably well in Windurst, too. Reward: Scale Mail.

Smoke on the Mountain - Galkan Sausage x1. There's two ways to do this quest, either get a giant sheep meat and stick it in one of the goblin campfires in South Gustaberg for one earth hour, or just go buy the sausage. This guide is all about FAST fame, so I suggest buying it. Probably the best part about this quest (for some of you anyway) is that it will put <|Galkan Sausage|> into the translator so that you can shout obscene translator things. Please don't do that. I hate that. Reward: 300 gil.

Stamp Hunt - No items required. This is a nice quest to do when you're new to Bastok. You're going to be running around a lot anyway, so might as well kill several birds with one stone and get this quest done too. Only two of the guards are really "out of the way". Reward: Leather Gorget.

Stardust - Pinch of Sunsand x1. If you've leveled in Valkurm ever (and haven't we all?) you've seen the little marooned boat on the beach. Any time there's a dust storm (earth element weather effect) in Valkurm, a ??? will appear at the boat. Click on it to get a pinch of sunsand. You can't buy this on the AH, but it's not rare/EX, so offer to pay for them if your party-members give them to you. Offer 200 gil each (hehehe) because... Repeatable. Reward: 300 gil.

The Bare Bones - Bone Chip x1. This is an easy quest with a good reward. You can buy bone chips at the AH under boneworking, you can get them for cheap from the boneworkers' guild in Windurst, or you can farm them from any skeleton-type enemy. I just bought mine at the AH. The reward justifies the cost. Reward: Map of the Dangruf Wadi.

The Cold Light of Day - Steam Clock (rare) x1. Ok, Chamama's building a stone fortress in Windurst Waters to take over the Federation of Windurst. Well, Malene is building evil little clockwork soldiers to attack the Republic of Bastok. She's GOT to be, with all the clocks she keeps getting. Anyway, this is the Bubbly Bernie quest everyone knows about. Take a quus (fish in salt water, buy on AH, buy at fishermans' guild in Windurst) to the lighthouse in S. Gustaberg, fight Bernie, return the clock. Repeat (if you're ok with mind-numbing boredom). Repeatable. Reward: 500 gil.

The Eleventh's Hour - No items required. Reasonably easy, just have to go to the top floor of Palborough Mines and find a toolbox to click, then go back. The reward is decent, especially if you're planning on leveling your THF soon, and it unveils more of Bastok's very cool backstory. Reward: Small Sword.

The Elvaan Goldsmith - Copper Ingot x1. Nice little series of side-quests, and I really like this NPC. Just grab a copper ingot off the AH or synth one up for some easy easy fame. Reward: 180 gil.

The Quadav's Curse - Quadav Backplate x1. This is that weirdo again, this is his first quest. Go get a backplate off the AH or whack some quadavs in Gustaberg for one so that he can hide in it. @.@ You can use the reward for Brydig, the Stylist, if you haven't done that one yet. Reward: Bronze Subligar.

The Return of the Adventurer - Cinnamon Stick x1. You have to do some other quests before you can get this one, but it's super easy. Buy cinnamon all over the place, dig it up on a chocobo in Yuhtunga... lots of choices. Reward: Cotton Headband.

Til Death Do Us Part - Cotton Gloves x1. You can buy cotton gloves on the AH in Windurst for much cheaper than you can get them in Bastok, and if you've done their previous quest "Forever to Hold", it's worth picking up some gloves in Windy for this one. Reward: 2000 gil.

Vengeful Wrath - Quadav Helm x1. This is one of the better repeatables available in Bastok. Helms drop off the quadavs in Palborough, or you can just buy them on the AH. I do this one whenever I farm Palborough. Repeatable. Reward: 900 gil.

Welcome to Bastok - Shell Shield x1. This one's easy if you've leveled a job that can wear the shield, otherwise you might just wait til later. Go equip a shell shield and run to the air travel agency in Port Bastok, then back to the quest giver. Shell shields, if you can't be bothered to buy one, drop off quadavs in Gustaberg. Reward: Spatha.

---

San d'Oria
A Discerning Eye - No item requirement. Each of the three nations has one of these quests, but you'll have to have an airship pass to take advantage of it. There is absolutely NO reason not to do the Discerning Eye every time you fly to Jeuno, since it will more than pay for your airship ticket and get you a little fame too! Repeatable. Reward: 500 gil.

A Purchase of Arms - No items required. This one's a bit out of the way, but if you're passing through Jugner forest or farming tiger fangs, might as well do this one as well. Reward: Elm Staff.

A Sentry's Peril - No items required. This is super easy, just run out to Ronfaure and back. But the reward... if there's anything I want to see less than a hume or galka in subligar, it's an elvaan. >< Reward: Bronze Subligar.

A Taste for Meat - Hare Meat x5. Hare meat drops from the rarab-type mobs in Ronfaure (and everywhere else). The reward is S-E's way of prompting us to branch out into the wonderful world of food. Repeatable. Reward: Grilled Hare, 150 gil (on repeats).

Advanced Teamwork - No items required. I hate the Teamwork quests. If you're a San d'Orian elvaan, they should be easy. But being a hume Windurstian it's hard for me to round up others to join me. Anyway, while this is the "advanced" quest, it's actually the easiest. You need a party of six, all of the same job. Reward: Horn Ring.

Black Tiger Skins - Black Tiger Hide x3. Third in the series, this time she wants black tiger hides. You can farm them from tigers in Jugner Forest while farming tiger fangs, or you can just buy them at the AH (they're relatively cheap). Reward: Tiger Stole.

Exit the Gambler - No items required. This is another of those nice, easy quests that rewards you with a map. These types of quests are my favourites because you get fame AND a very important item, and they're so easy to do. Reward: Map of King Ranparre's Tomb.

Father and Son - Willow Fishing Rod x1. Another easy quest, and my understanding is that this one is part of PLD AF as well, so if you're a PLD you have to do this, but anyone else can do it for fame. All it takes is delivering a willow fishing rod. Reward: Willow Fishing Rod (if you choose to keep it), none (if you give it to the kid).

Fear of the Dark - Bat Wing x2. This is one of the premiere San d'Orian repeatables because it's so easy to get ahold of bat wings. You can pick up a stack of them in Windurst very cheaply, or pay slightly more in Bastok. Don't buy them in San d'Oria though. You can also farm them off any bat-type creature in the game (this includes large bats and triple-bat flocks). Repeatable. Reward: 200 gil.

Flyers for Regine - Magic Mart Flyer x15. This is San d'Oria's version of the "run everywhere and learn the layout of town, you newbies" quest. It's relatively easy to complete, though, especially if you're turning in other quest items and picking up other quests along the way. Reward: 440 gil.

Gates to Paradise - No items required. This one's nice to pick up, and complete it the next time you get a Teleport-Holla. I wouldn't go out of my way to run all the way to La Theine just to complete this quest, though. Reward: Cotton Cape.

Grave Concerns - No items required. I haven't done this one either, yet, but since it requires you to go to King Ranparre's Tomb you can farm bat wings while you're there for Fear of the Dark. I like doing several quests at once! Reward: 560 gil.

Growing Flowers - Marguerite x1. I must stress again how wonderful these quests are. Fame and an awesome bonus reward... DO THIS QUEST. You can buy marguerite in Upper Jeuno for about 70 gil, or pay about 300 to buy it off the auction house. Reward: Exit to any San d'Oria zone from your mog house.

Her Magesty's Garden - Derfland Humus x1. This one's probably going to be a lot easier just to pay the gil and buy. If you can, pick up the humus in Jeuno instead of San d'Oria, you'll pay less for it. If you're really feeling adventuresome, you can get these from Doom Scorpions in Crawlers' Nest. The map you get is for Xarcabard and Beaucedine Glacier, so it comes in quite handy. Reward: Map of the Northern Regions.

Intermediate Teamwork - No items required. Joy, another one of these annoying quests. This time, you have to gather up five other people of your same race. Again, easiest if you're elvaan but everyone should be ok to do this one since there's members of all the races running around in San d'Oria. Reward: Scroll of Mage's Ballad.

Introduction to Teamwork - No items required. If you're planning on doing this quest, try to do the other two in the series at the same time. This one only requires you to be in a party of six. But if you're in a party of six, all the same race and job, you can do all three quests at once. Reward: Shell Ring.

Lizard Skins - Lizard Skin x3. This is the second in her series. She wants lizard skins, which drop from lizards in La Theine/Valkurm/Konschtat. The reward doesn't justify the cost of the materials, however, but it's fame and it opens up her next quest. Reward: Lizard Gloves.

Lufet's Lake Salt - Lufet Salt (EX) x3. This one you'll HAVE to farm for yourself, as the items are EX. The salt drops from crabs in Ronfaure, and the gil is decent considering the ease with which you can kill those crabs. Reward: 600 gil.

Rosel the Armourer - No items required. This one's easy, but you CAN fail it. He'll ask you to deliver a receipt to one of the princes at the Chateau, either Pieuje or Trion. If you give the guard the wrong name, you fail the quest. And it isn't repeatable. So if you forget who to give the note to, go ask Rosel to remind you. Or write it down. Or something. Reward: 200 gil (or nothing if you fail to give the correct name).

Sleepless Nights - Mary's Milk x1. This one may cost you to complete unless you like hunting NMs. The item drops off Stray Mary, the NM sheep in Konschtat Highlands. I got lucky with this, because I was camping Mary for my Mary's Horn for my bard and got the milk as a bonus. But you CAN buy it at the AH, just expect it to be in the 8,000 gil price range. Reward: 5000 gil.

Starting a Flame - Flint Stone x4. Easy easy easy. Dig up stones, mine them, kill worms in Ronfaure for them, buy them on the AH, buy them in a bazaar... Repeatable. Reward: 100 gil.

The Brugaire Consortium - No items required. Another easy one, you just have to go make some deliveries to three NPCs. They're all in the same zone, so it's easy to run around and do the quest. Reward: Lauan Shield.

The Dismayed Customer - No items required. Relatively easy quest, just requires a lot of running around Ronfaure to find his missing receipts. Worth doing if you're leveling a low job in Ronfaure. Reward: 560 gil.

The Medicine Woman - Malboro Vine x1 AND Zinc Ore x1 AND Insect Wing x1. This is another of those quests where you get a good reward if you farm the items yourself, or break even if you buy them at the auction house. At the very least, I'd kill worms and beetles in Ronfaure for the zinc and insect wing, and just buy the vine. But, it's up to you how you want to complete this. Reward: 2100 gil.

The Merchant's Bidding - Rabbit Hide x3. My favourite San d'Orian repeatable. You can run outside and kill Wild Rabbits and Forest Hares in Ronfaure for the hides, and you don't have to zone to repeat this one. You can buy the hides on the AH if you like, since a stack will count for four repeats. Repeatable. Reward: 120 gil.

The Pickpocket - No items required. This one requires a bit of running, but it was very pleasant when I saw the reward, especially since I'm leveling my Beastmaster these days. Reward: Light Axe.

The Rivalry OR The Competition - Moat Carp x1. This is the most beneficial San d'Orian repeatable in the end, but it's a long road. If you just want to clear the quest once, go buy a moat carp at the auction house. But if you're in it for the long haul... If you turn in 10,000 moat carps, your reward is a Lu Shang's Fishing Rod, the ultimate fishing rod. Plus, that's a hell of a lot of gil at 100 per fish. This is the Iron Man quest of FFXI, not for the faint at heart. I don't like fishing so (Thanks for the offer, but I'll have to pass.). Repeatable. Reward: 100 gil (each repeat), Lu Shang's Fishing Rod (after 10,000 repeats).

The Rumour - Beastman Blood x1. This is San d'Oria's answer to the Warp/Aspir quests. You can buy the blood at the auction or farm it off leeches in Pashhow Marshlands. The tricky thing about this quest is, unless you're San d'Orian you can't get into the Chateau until you're on Mission 2-3 for your kingdom (elitist elvaans, I tell you). So, if you're working on or have obtained Rank 3 for Bastok or Windurst, you're all set. Reward: Scroll of Drain.

The Seamstress - Sheep Skin x3. First in her series, she wants three sheep skins. These drop off any sheep-type enemy, from Ronfaure to La Theine to Valkurm to Konschtat. You can also buy the sheep skins off the auction house, since they're relatively cheap. And this quest has one of the cooler titles granted. XD Reward: Leather Gloves.

The Sweetest Things - Honey x5. Your best bet here is to buy the honey at the auction house in Bastok or Windurst, since there are no nearby bees to farm, and the other nations have them much cheaper than San d'Oria usually sells them for. This is a good repeatable, especially if you have a mule account in Windurst or Bastok that can send you more honey. Repeatable. Reward: 400 gil.

The Trader in the Forest - No items required. Another quest requiring you to sprint across Ronfaure, which is nice if you're stacking your quests to make the most of your time. Reward: Robe.

The Vicasque's Sermon - Blue Peas x1. The blue peas will cost you 70 gil, so it's basically a break-even quest. Still, break-evens are better than lose-gil quests. Reward: Brass Ring.

Thick Shells - Beetle Shell x5. Beetle shells sell relatively cheaply in San d'Oria's auction house on Fairy, but you can also farm them from pretty much every beetle-type enemy in the game, and since this quest is repeatable it's a good way of getting rid of all those shells you'll pick up in Garlaige Citadel and Crawlers' Nest. Repeatable. Reward: 750 gil.

Tiger's Teeth - Black Tiger Fang x3. This is the premiere repeatable quest if you're out for gil. The tigers that drop fangs are located in Jugner Forest and Batallia Downs. Generally, the Batallia tigers aren't nearly as camped as the Jugner ones. Believe it or not, I have a friend who paid for his haubergeon ENTIRELY with profits from this quest... but he's insane. Anyway, this is an awesome money maker for mid-leveled characters as well as being a great repeatable for fame. Repeatable. Reward: 2100 gil.

Trouble at the Sluice - Dahlia x1. I hate this quest, and 99% of the reason is because I hate dahlias. I hate dahlias because that's all goobbues EVER drop for me. And I hate Jolly Green the most! But I digress...this is a pretty easy quest with a nice reward (especially if you're a WAR, like Tarisan sometimes is). Reward: Heavy Axe.

Undying Flames - Beeswax x2. This one's fairly easy to do as well, since most players can make their own beeswax (with a few failures). The recipe for beeswax is a distilled water, three beehive chips and a fire crystal, and it's a low enough alchemy synth that I was able to make my own from farmed ingredients with only a 50/50 failure rate. Nevertheless, you can buy the wax too (if you choose to do this, get it in Bastok at a discount). Reward: Friar's Rope.

Warding Vampires - Bulb of Shaman Garlic (EX) x2. The great thing about this quest is the title it grants. The annoying thing is that the garlic is EX so you can't be a lazy ******* and buy it. It drops from Orcish Cursemakers in nearby Yughott Grotto/Fort Ghelsba. Your best bet is to try to do this while helping a friend farm Kazham keys, or do it while mining in Yughott. The garlic IS a rare drop and you need two, but if you're doing something else at the same time it isn't too bad. Repeatable. Reward: 900 gil.

Waters of the Cheval - No items required. This is a nice little quest with a pretty useful reward. All you have to do is run out to East Ronfaure and back, and you're rewarded with a rare/EX necklace useable at level 7, AGI+1 with minor resistance to wind/silence and earth/slow. Especially handy if you're a melee character/ranger/thief. Reward: Wing Pendant.

---

And there we have it. The three kingdoms are done, with Jeuno and the Tenshodo soon to come. I hope this has been of help to someone, it's the biggest guide I've written to date and it's causing me to develop carpal tunnel syndrome. ; ;

Just kidding! Anyway, enjoy and I'll update again with Jeuno later. I'll also add the "other areas" quests like the one in Selbina that increases San d'Orian, Bastokan and Jeunoan fame but lowers Norg. Since it's got so many different effects on fame I figure it should probably have its own section. Anyway, later!

Awesome guide. Windurst is certainly one of the easiest cities to get fame in quickly.

Awsome.

I don't have time to read through it all ATM, but I know it is good since you wrote it Saboruto.

It is printing off now.

Thanks for doing Windy first as that is the only city of the main 4 tht I am not level 9 fame.

Guess I will be doing some questing tonight.

That's funny, I always thought Windurst was the hardest, hence the need for a good guide like Saboruto's. A lot of the repeatable quest items don't stack or are more expensive than the quest reward.

In my opinion, San d'Oria is by far the easiest, since it has The Merchant's Bidding (rabbit hides) Fear of the Dark (bat wings), and Tiger's Teeth (tiger fangs).

Bastok is slightly harder, since A Flash in the Pan requires 15 minutes to pass between anyone turning flint stones in, and The Gourmet which requires you to zone in between items.

Bastok's saving grace is the Selbina quest Only the Best which as a bonus gives you fame in both San d'Oria and Bastok, and you don't lose much money if you buy the cabbage from vendors.

Everywhere else except Tenshodo: Only the best in Selbina.

Buy a full inv of Either la thiene cabbages or boyahda moss (Whichever you can afford) and trade it to the guy outside the weavers guild in Selbina (if you did cabbages rinse, lather, and repeat 4-6 times).

EDIT: Selbina is linked to San D'oria, Rabao, Bastok, and thus linked innevitably to Jeuno.

Much like the Selbina Moss Quest, there's an easy way to up your Windy fame using Mandragora-Mad, assuming that Bastok isn't in last place.

Go fill up your inventory with Coronettes from the Music Shop in Bastok and turn them in @ Windy. It's basically a break even quest for you, so it's a great way to make some quick fame there.

As far as the other nations, nothing compares to Selbina moss. I turned in 16 stacks (192 pieces of moss) and never had to worry about fame again.

BTW, Hi everyone.

Welcome back Alien, where've you been?

And yes, I agree Mandragora Mad is by far the easiest out of all the Windurst repeatables, but it's still a pain because Cornettes don't stack.

I had done about 5 or 6 quests in Windurst. Then, I had a friend go to Bastok, buy coronettes, and keep sending them to me. ~150 later I had hero fame :) Didn't even take an hour and cost me 7.5k

It's of course Norg fame that will give you the biggest headache.

I chose the necklace route, mostyly because I'm Windurstian. 20 Giddeus runs @ 20 necklaces a pop. That was the worst I ever had to do for fame.

I've been trying to build up my Norg fame whenever I can, I haven't actively pursued raising it because I didn't really need it before. However, now that my Ninja is level 10, I'm getting to the point where I should probably get it done.

WOW, never thought of that.

I am so doing this tonight with a LS mate.
He is in Bastok, I get the fame, then switch. I hit bastok, and he gets the fame.

Windy has been the hardest for myself, and since my LS is mostly from Sandy, I know I can find someone needs to get this done, and has mid level fame in Windy.

Awsome idea.
(I believe Bastok is in second this week)

Looking foward to the sandy version, since I DEFENTLY need to work on that one.

Idea Saboruto, you might want to include the link to the post that shows where the fame checker is in each town and what lvl of fame corsponds to what they say, I get that question A LOT in game.

I mined in bastok for 2 days to turn in zinc ore. I think I even made a profit selling iron/darsteel ore and got smithing up a bit. I got to norg last night and recieved all the ninja quests.

It was a boring 2 days lol, but norg fame is finished for me.

After completing the 6 ninja quests is there any reason to worry about norg fame?

I want to do some more boyoda moss runs but don't want to hurt my norg fame if I am going to need it again anytime soon

A quick note...

Completing the advanced job quests gives you fame in city in which the quest is offered:

San d'Oria:
Paladin (2 prereq. quests), with various rewards you can sell.
Dragoon - a rather involved quest, involves fighting.

Bastok:
Ninja - Another involved quest that involves fighting.
Dark Knight - A very easy quest, just incredibly boring.

Windurst:
Summoner - Once you get the ruby and fire weather this isn't too hard to complete.
Ranger - By all means do this quest. It's easy with a chocobo and you get 2100 gil or some necklace that sells for 5k.

Jeuno:
Bard - Also a very very easy quest. You make like 5k doing this quest.
Beastmaster - Easy to do as well. I think theres an item reward for this too?

Norg:
Samurai - Involves 2 battles, best to do with a group, but hey it's Norg fame.

EDIT: If you're a SMN level 20 (or any job 60-65+), completing the various avatar quests also gives you fame:
Bastok - Titan, Sandy - Shiva, Mhaura (Windy) - Ramuh, Kazham (Windy) - Ifrit, Rabao (Bastok/Sandy?) - Garuda, Norg - Leviathan
I guess Fenrir gives you windy fame but by the time you can defeat him you probably don't need it.

I didn't buy my Cornettes; I synthesized them. You're losing money that way, but you're skilling Goldsmithing and Bonecraft up from 9-14 (if you want; mine's only gone from 9-11 so far). Skilling Goldsmithing up through 14 is a losing proposition anyway, since you're probably going to be dumping horrible Brass Scales on an NPC. And did you really want to make Bone Rings from 9-17? You already have Brass Ingots from getting GS to 9, and Bone Chips are about 144 apiece from the guild. You'd be using one Bone Chip and one Wind Crystal per Bone Ring anyway, just not the Brass Ingot...but then, you're skilling Goldsmithing, where you'd use the ingots instead. So if you look at it right, this saves you crystals.

(If you're feeling cheap and helpful, take your mid-level THF/MNK or vice-versa and help people hunt down Ghouls. Or help yourself by farming Test Answers, Bone Chips, and Rusty Daggers in the area of the Horotuto Ruins past the 3-mage gate. Of course, this requires leveling THF and MNK jobs, and completing Windurst 3-2, but if you've got it...)

I think I raised my fame from around 6 to around 8 by just sitting there and synthing Cornettes until I used up the ~2.5 stacks of Brass Ingots I had made. Windurst fame has never been a huge problem for me, since I've found many fun quests to do there. Bastok just doesn't seem to have nearly as many quests that jump out at you, and as for San d'Oria...well, let's just say that if you walk inside the city for the first time with a nearly full inventory, don't talk to any of the NPCs. They'll probably start you on a quest that dumps at least one and as many as 15 items on you. Still, my San d'Oria fame is higher than Bastok (6 and 4 respectively, and somehow I have hero fame in Jeuno; I guess finishing all your RSE and Gobbiebags will help with that).

Is this a crazy, roundabout, specific way to raise Windurst fame? Yes, yes it is. But I think it's also pretty good.

Bump, for the Kingdom of San d'Oria! Now all three kingdoms are in the guide and I just need to do Norg, Jeuno and "other areas" quests. Those will be the three shortest sections, but I can't be bothered to do it right now, so enjoy my mostly-complete guide. ^^

the "The seamstress" quest in San d'Oria is repeatable. She won't give you the quest, but if you trade her skins you still get gloves.

Also, Black tiger fangs can be farmed in sauromuge, in addition to battalia and jugner

EDIT: because there's no such thing as Sa d'Oria.

I found that the "Vengeful Wrath" quest was the easiest way to gain bastok fame.

Quadav helms usually sell from 800-1100 on my server, so the helm quest can be done very quickly, and with mininal loss.

Got to rank 9 fame doing this and unique quests.
