Hello, I have been a long lurker on this forum but have never really posted. Today I saw a couple of threads asking for some lower level farming spots and I thought I had a few gems from Bastok to share with you all. Might as well make my first post a helpful one.

I decided to make a list of some of the best farming (that I know of) for lower level characters in the Bastok area (since that's where I'm from.) I'll also include a couple of other money making tips.

This community has helped out a lot, it's the least I could do to give something back.

So here goes:

Table of Contents
- I. Introduction
- II. Locations

- Bees, and the ungodly Zegham Hill (there is another way!).
- Pal Mines.
- Dangruf Wadi.

- III. The Auction House
- IV. Few tips
- V. Summary (for those who just want the goods. Less chat, more splat)

.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::

I. Introduction

First off I want to say that I'm not a real high level character. I'm a RDM of only 23 levels, a THF of 16, WHM of 15, WAR of 10.

So this is not a guide for you higher level types, as I hear you have all developed much better ways of making cash^^.

This guide is more for people like me, who are just starting out the game and need methods to buy all your up-to-date and fairly good gear along with all of your spells/etc.

I first want to start off by saying that, if possible, level THF to 15 ASAP. It's not to hard to solo all the way up to 15 (10 to 15 is brutal, I feel your pain), and Treasure Hunter is so unbelievably helpful.

Much of this guide will not be nearly as effective without treasure hunter, but even without it, it's the best methods I've learned from my limited time.

So here we go, onward to locations.

II. Locations
- Bees, and the infamous Zegham Hill

There is a monster called the "Maneating Hornet." These monsters typically spawn in places such as Vomp Hill in S. Gustaberg, Zegham Hill in N. Gustaberg, the Fuma Rolls in S. Gustaberg, and Konschtat Highlands.

These drop Beehive Chips, Pots of Honey, and Insect wings.

Beehive chips on Seraph (as of the last time I checked) were going for nearly 4k for a stack in the Bastok Auction House (AH).

Pots of Honey typically go for somewhere around 2k a stack.

Insect wings I don't consider worth my time.. but they go for maybe 600 a stack.

Most people who farm these seem to know about Zegham hill. This is the hill in North Gustaberg. I'll be the first to admit that there are good reasons most people know about this farming spot.

There are 3 levels. All three levels have numerous Maneating Hornet spawn locations. The second level is the most heavily camped and is where the NM named "Stinging Sophie" pops up (she also pops on the third level). (If you see her, she drops a Beestinger Dagger worth about 6-7k.)

I camped here for a long time when I started the game for the stacks of items I listed above, and it isn't bad.

Lately though the competition has gotten heavy, and frustrating. I don't like competing too much. I consider farming to be relaxing and enjoyable.. not an experience similar to NM camping.

It's not a bad place, but I think there are better spots.

One of them is in S. Gustaberg. It is an area called the fuma rolls (Near Dangruf Wadi). Maneating Hornets spawn all over the place and drop just as well as they do in Zegham. Plus, you don't have to worry about Bat spawns taking your Bee spawns at night.

(Though Bat wings are worth about 2k a stack, if you were wondering).

Another place is in Konschtat Highlands. My particularly favored spot is in the area of J-7. It's all about J-7.

The Hornets in this area are of a slightly higher level so be careful to be above 10 or so. (Higher if you want to be wary of the quadavs running around.)

There is a fairly consistent spawn rate in I-7 and J-7 and a good drop rate overal. Most of all it's peaceful. The most I have seen here is some traffic from the crag and the BST or two roaming around.

Between these three areas, it's not hard to get some decent money going off of bees.

They also (if you have signet and are of appropriet level) drop Wind crystals. Good sell on the AH in a stack.

But if that's not your cup of tea, or not fast enough for you... read on:

Because to be honest, I don't really farm bees anymore, and the next two areas require higher levels. (Where you could probably do this kind of farming between 7-13).

.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::

- Pal Mines

Ok. There is a place at the very North Eastern tip of North Gustaberg called Palborough Mines. These mines are basically Quadav City. Amethyst Quadav city. (More on these in a moment).

This place is especially useful for thieves with Treasure Hunter and Gillfinder, if you have those.. read on.

As long as you are about level 15 or 16 you can unload everything but maybe some pants (because I'm a mithra.. and I hate people gawking at me) and a good weapon.

I mean all of it. 'Naked Farming' as I like to call it.

This leaves the maximum inventory space for your farming adventures. This means less trips, and more stuff to put on the AH.

Make sure if you are level 15-16 you stay on the bottem level. Without armor the monsters above that WILL kill you.

Ok. Now that your inventory is empty. Kill all the amethyst quadavs you see. They drop Quadav backplates (they are the only type who do this). Quadav backplates are not stackable.. this is why your inventory must be empty. They sell for 600-800 a piece. That isn't so great.. except that they sell almost instantly. All of them. So you can load up and sell them all within an hour.

This is because quadav backplates desynth into darksteel ore. Very profitable for you high level crafters^^.

Also all the quadav drop gill. So you can go ahead and wreak havok on them.

One last thing while we are talking about Pal mines.

Rabbits. All those pit hares. You see them and you see that nobody. Ever. Kills them.

You can take advantage of this. These rabbits drop both rabbit hides and meat. Find one of the breaks in the wall and cast a spell or voke, or shoot an arrow through it at one.

Run around like normal. (You may not want to do this without armor though).

After about 3 minutes they (yes they.. even though you shot just one) will find you. Where ever you are in the mine they will find you. There will be like 20 of them if you do this in the right spots. That equals out to a good haul of hides and meat and you can quickly get stacks.

Rabbit hides sell for about 2.0k a stack (or more.)
The meat is 1k a stack (or more.)

-Dangruf Wadi , Where all the money is

There are a number of ways to get gill in Dangruf:

First,
There are worms that spawn in dangruf wadi. They are the stone eaters and the Giant Grubs.

They mostly spawn in the tunnel areas up on level 2.

(You need a map of Dangruf Wadi.. you can get one by giving a Bone Chip to the Maat looking dude in Bastok Markets (I can't remember his name at the moment.. the old dude who is jumping around and staring at the water.)

These drop:

Flint stones
Zinc Ore
Pinches of Sulfur
Hermits Rings

The Grub worms are Easy Prey for my 16 THF, but the Gobs up there are dangerous when I run around without armor).

Pinches of Sulfur sell for 7k a stack (or more). Hermits rings sell for 1k in Bastok, 1.5 in Sandy and possibly more in Windy.

Zinc Ores typically sell for around 400. There is also a quest in Port Bastok in Warehouse 2 to trade in 4 to raise your Norg fame (if you plan to get Ninja.)

Zinc ores and the rings don't stack, be carful with your inventory.

The grub worms also drop the same.

On the second level there are Goblin Ambushers. These drop Block of Animal Glue.

Blocks of Animal Glue sell for like 12k a stack.

Also on the second level there are Wadi Hares. These drop Guasbit Grass for the chocobo quest. This grass goes for about 600-1k in Jueno a piece.

There are Goblins all over the place. You can steal Beast Coins from them. The weavers will drop glass thread and the thugs (and possibly the weavers) drop wild onions. The Fishers drop fishing poles and lightning crystals. All of them drop gill.

All the lizards and Gobs (except fishers) drop fire crystals.

The stacks of fire crystals will sell for 3k or more (last time I checked.)

There are also other things to farm in Wadi. The ways to make money here are numerous.

Treasure Hunter is almost a requirement though. You must be a higher level to do this. I recommend about level 25 or so.

III. The Auction House

There are a few things I wanted to say about the Auction House.

Try to sell stackable things only in stacks. Zinc ores and Backplates (although they aren't stackable) will sell quickly enough for this not to be a problem.

Make mules in other cities and transfer items to them to sell in different markets.

Undercut intelligently. Don't kill price history.

If Pinches of Sulfur sell for 7k in a stack. Sell them for 6902.
Or 7k if you aren't in a hurry.

.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::

IV. A few tips

Just a few tips. Pick up a craft if you can.

Alchemy is pretty cool for this guide. You need sulfur.. you farm it already so it doesn't cost you.. need behive chips (Beeswax will synth, unsupported, at 0).. you already farm them.. it doesn't cost you.

You can make wax swords with support at 0. You can find what you need in Bastok Mines.

Another tip.. be curteous to your fellow farmers. There is enough to go around. Give up a few mobs to them, make it fun for everyone.

Also, be selective. When farming your inventory space is important for maximum load. If an item is not worth your time (such as.. possibly flint stones).. drop em.

Finally,
There are other ways to make money as well. I'm sure there are better ones. I just thought I would tell you what I know.

.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::.::

V. The wrap up

If you didn't want to read all that.. here, in order of level needed to take the mobs:

Zegham Hill- Bees
Fuma Rolls - Bees
Konschtat Highlands - Bees
Pal Mines - Amethyst quadav for backplates
Pal Mines - Rabbits link.
Dangruf - Worms.
Dangruf - Ambushers, and all other gobs.
Dangruf - Wadi hares

I hope this helps someone.

For someone just starting out, I strongly reccomending going 2/3-8 in the Zehrun mines.

Between the Soot, Bat Wings, Crystals (Don't forget that signet!) and other miscellaneous drops, a new player can easily make 20k just by levelling. While it's not much in the long-run, it helps immensely if you're just starting out on your first character or need some quick cash. Plus, you level a whole bunch to boot!

I did this for my /war and /thf when I played on Shiva, and later at night it was almost deserted. You eventually get down a great rhythm where you'll basically loop through and catch everything as it's spawning, and once you're over level 5, downtime becomes much less of an issue.

Hope this helps!

I still make money on Zegham Hill on a regular basis But another tip is to kill Sheep there too ,
Sheep Teeth 1.5k a stack
Giant Sheep Meat 1k a stack in windy
SheepSkins 300-400 each

But i take 12 drk crystal 4.5k in AH on my server and a stack of windy Teabags (can't remember the spelling) 600 gil a stack and a stack of distilled water 9-11 gil each depending on fame and synth the Skins to leather which sells for 12-13k in Windy which can be done at level 0 craft skill also 2 skins and a wind crystal makes sheep wool which sells for 8k a stack

.............I dont care if your helping people out or not, but telling people of these places will make traffic heavier, and you just destroyed my farming spots, Keep info like this to yourself, Sorry but it's Hard to make money enough how it is

It's not exactly like it's a secret that farming bees can be lucrative, honestly. I've had more than one moneymaker exposed, overrun, undercut, or otherwise discovered. I move on, and find something else.

I'm sorry you feel that way. If it helps any, I'm sure most people already knew these things (as I already see most of these areas camped pretty well).

I feel that the spread of information will only help level out farming areas. Some people will leave some for others, and others will go to those.

I also feel that, especailly on the main forum that a topic like this will last about 2 days maximum. Then it'll be gone.

I hope there's no ill will, like you said, it is difficult to gain gill.

But I feel that in helping people to get gill, even at the cost of increasing traffic, I will no longer see mages in quifm wearing level 11 armor.

Breeds better players, and stimulates the economy.

Great guide, thanks.

Heres a couple of things to do with all those flint stones and copper ores that start filling up those precious slots whilst chopping down worms.

At level 0 synthing...

Four copper ore and a fire crystal make Copper Ingots which stack, handy!

Two flint stones and a wind crystal make stone arrow heads.

Not a route to instant gil and fame, true, but I always feel so wasteful throwing them away!

All the best
Beebo
