New Menu of Vana'diel: Tasty FOOD Effects List - Dec Patch!Follow

Hi All,

With the new December 2004 Patch, SE seems to have made some major changes to the way Food works in FFXI. Besides the general categories (listed in the Update Notes), they also stated:

"The duration and effect of several foods have been adjusted.

Effects
Limits have been introduced to certain statuses that are affected by consuming meals and drinks. Those statuses are as follows:
attack/ranged attack/defense/accuracy/ranged accuracy/HP/MP

These limits vary with the type of food, as well as the consumer's job and level. We suggest trying many different combinations to see which foods are most effective in different situations."

http://www.playonline.com/updateus/041209we8yu0.html

So it seems that Foods will now vary by Level and Job (which could make a new "Food Effects List" properly updated, a challenge ;). The goal of this post is to try to aggregate as many Food Changes / New Effects into a concise post to help everyone benefit. :)

I managed to run a few tests with the Same Job, but Different Level (for various foods) last night.

Helpful Tip! The Orastery dispatched a “foul-mouthed” Tarutaru – Panke-Poranke – to Lower Jeuno. (^_^;) Panke is sitting in front of the Merry Minstrel Pub and will “magically remove” any Food Effects if you trade him a Gysahl Green (which you can buy at AH or any of the Store NPCs sitting in front of the Chocobo Stables.) (^_^)

UPDATE: It seems with all the great data I’ve confirmed that foods that boost Attack or Defense by a percentage now have a Maximum Cap (and it varies by Level). For example, while you may normally get a +20% increase when eating Coeurl Saute, once your attack bonus rises to a certain amount, you hit the new “Maximum Cap” and you will no longer get any extra bonus beyond that (which is what was skewing all the percentages we had earlier).

To figure out whether you’ve outgrown the Food you want to use, simply take your current Attack or Defense and multiply that by the “Attack +%” number and see if that is greater or less than the “Maximum Cap” number. If it is less, then you are still benefitting from the full effects of that food. If the number you got is greater than that “Maximum Cap” value, then you might want to look for a higher capped food, to get full benefits (^_^).

Sorting through all the different effects per Level and Job will be a monstrous undertaking, but hopefully we can sort through this, and most importantly, discover lots of new tasty Foods to try out and use that give great bonuses to help us all kick-butt and conquer the monsters of Vana’diel! (^_^)

Enjoy.

Many thanks for everyone that’s contributed! It’s been extremely helpful! (^_^)

it seems that they have a % increase in attack, plus a cap that they will not rise beyond (from what I read in a few threads)

One thing on your %attack increase numbers, from what I've read there is an actual numeric cap the the increase (+60 for mithkababs, I believe). Please try to include the actual valued increase in any result presented (after taking into consideration the changes due to the +str). I'll try to test some of these myself, tonight.

^^ I was just about to say the same thing. I wonder how the percentage would be adjusted for a lvl 34 PLD. I'll definitely have to look into that.

Yes, apparently programmers screwed up and gave apple pies the duration of the 99 stackable foods and raw foods, I would expect that to be fixed soon. Also, I tested and found garlic crackers gave +6 hp regen while healing. And last night I found that meat mithkabobs were giving my level 35 rdm the same attack bonus as before, so I would presume on your low level character your percentage was skewed due to the low absolute value, but they now seem to have a limit in how much they can add which would apply mainly to high level characters.

does snack food stack with normal food?

so much headache..for what? i wish SE would just include stat bonus in food description and maybe hide extra bonus from job/race combo :p

Fish Mithkabob + RNG44/NIN22

Before:
HP 703, MP 0, STR 44, DEX 39, VIT 45+7, AGI 44, INT 32, MND 44, CHR 36
Attack 86, Defense 83

After:
HP 703, MP 0, STR 44, DEX 39+1, VIT 45+9, AGI 44, INT 32, MND 44-1, CHR 36
Attack 86, Defense 105

So the effects for me are:
DEX +1, VIT +2, MND -1, Def. +26.5% (+/- 1.4% error)

Largely unchanged, it seems.

(edit) Testing again with WAR37/MNK18.

Before: Attack 102, Defense 83
After: Attack 102, Defense 105 (26.5% +/- 1.4% error)
Before with Berserk: Attack 127, Defense 62
After with Berserk: Attack 127, Defense 78 (25.8% +/- 1.8%)
Before with Defender: Attack 76, Defense 103
After with Defender: Attack 76, Defense 131 (27.2% +/- 1.1%)

Question about Meat Chiefkas.

Do they last the same amount of time? (30 min)? Or is the time increased because they are an HQ food?

I'm guessing Pea Soup's stats are totally changed???
Used to be Dex-1 Vit+2 and 5 hp regen while resting
Since they used it as their example for VEGETABLE dish, I'm guessing it effects RACC and/or AGI. That would be a rather large change.

(Level 75 WHM) MP +15, MND +4, MP Regen While Healing +3

I don't want to doubt you, but are you sure they're totally unchanged? It says right in the description of Mushroom Dishes that they raise enmity (nice for PLDs methinks?) After reading the list of changes I suddenly don't feel it would be healthy for my WHM to eat any more mushrooms (but those rolanberry pies are looking yummy!)^^;

Good job for starting this (rate up for everyone giving their results) - anyone have any idea how we can accurately measure things like +Acc and +Enmity these are supposed to give us?

You CAN verify accuracy bonuses but its tricky. First you need to have on you a considerable amount of + accuracy equipment (remember 2 dex = 1 accuracy and 1 weapon skill = 1 accuracy, so having two slightly differently skilled weapons will help a lot too). Find a mob that will say it has a lower evasion rating if you have most of this gear on, but a higher evasion readout from check if you unequip a few points. Then eat the food and find the new amount of + accuracy numbers results in the change, and subtract. Best to find a non aggroing monster no one is hunting so it doesn't get killed before you can finish doing this.

It wouldnt be the first typo in the update. I point out the "dexterity boost to trick attack" (most agree its a AGI boost), and the "Goblin Archealogist able to see through the Ninja HIDE ability" (thats a THF JA).

My guess is, if anything, that mushrooms improve enmity, by reducing it. The one who typed it up prob goofed, and figured that an increase is a good thing?

I dunno, requires testing. But as mushrooms were generally held as a WHM food, I would guess it gives -enmity.

Ryotu,

Good point. I have no idea if Enmity changed; wasn't able to test this accurately (and we have no numerical stats that are viewable). But the other basic stats of the Witch Kabobs were the same. It'd be weird and sad, if it gave +Enmity as well.

If anyone can verify increased Enmity for Mushroom foods, please let us know! :)

Great work here, experimentation like this will definitely be needed to try to figure out all the changes to the food.

Btw, mushroom foods do lower enmity, not raise it. That was a translation error in whoever writes up the English patch notes. You can verify this by viewing an auto-translated version of the Japanese patch notes.

broiled pipira: +4 dex -1 mnd, changed attack to 143
meat chiefkabob: EXACT SAME STATS AS NORMAL MITHKABOB
Navarin: +3 str +1 vit +1 agi -1 int +17 max hp
Boiled Crayfish: changed def to 115
Herb Quus: +1 dex -1 mnd
thats probably all I'm gonna test for a while here.

The Apple Pies do indeed now last for 5 minutes. The Melon Pies are still :30, and I have yet to test the others, but I'm guessing that it's only Apple that changed duration.
