Anyone got any suggestions for this PoS? We fought him last night probably 7 or 8 times, and got smashed. I thought his Nightmare ability was a one time thing but he spams it like crazy.

We had jobs: RNG, RNG, RDM, RDM, SMN, BLM, WAR, NIN

we tried various combinations, keeping on the following constant:

RNG, RNG, SMN, RDM fought every time
WAR swapped out with NIN sometimes
RDM swapped out with BLM sometimes

Ironically, our two best runs were 1) when one ranger died really early on and missed most the fight. 2) after our Ninja delevelled to 39 and couldn't wear any armor, so had to go in naked.

I don't know I'm pretty discouraged after that. I really think we need WHM with Erase, but there's gotta be a way to do it without. Is Erase the only item / spell in the game that gets rid of Bio?

(On a funny side note, sleep bolts will proc on him. A party fo 6 rangers could probably have fun chain sleeping him)

Well, curaga is nice to have actaully. When you all get slept, curaga will wake everyone up. Also, barsleepra in nice to use too. I did it with war/nin, pld/war, rng/nin x2, smn/whm and whm/blm. 3 deaths, but made it through. As long as you dont fall dwon when he drops the floor, everything should be ok.

bring lots of hi-potions (to save on mp) and use them generously. Plan on having 8-10 per run. Also, plan on using 2 hours, This isnt a battle to be done 3 or 4 times in a row. When the pld almost died, he used invincible, so the rng both 2 houred, barraged, war 2 houred, smn 2 houred. youd be amazed how fast he went down.

my fav combination

nin rng rng rdm whm whm.

smn is good only if they can use 2hr. but diablos will crazy use AoE at the end. it means either you are slept or your pet is slept. wha good is smn if they can't use SP?

you underestimate the important of whm in this BCNM. a whm will save you at the end.

each ppl must take the best regen hp, and re-raise scroll. mages need to stock up mp potions and drink. fighters need stock up hi-potions and tp wings.

rng attack slowly at beginning and safe your abilities. you will have no problem down hi hp to 1/2 without much of mp used. remeber, everyone stand together, a mage need to use curega if necesary. whm's SP will safe you from time to time.

Thanks for the tips. I think we're going back tonight with a PLD instead of a NIN. The plan will be that:

- If Diabolos is > 40% health and PLD is about to die, call it a flop and let everyone get killed off.

- If Diabolos is < 40% health and PLD is about to die or things are going bad, PLD 2 hour, everyone run to the mage corner and 2 hour, Sharpshot, Barrage, Eagle Eye Shot, Weapon Skill, Icarus Wing, Weapon Skill.

The biggest problem we had was the tank not keeping hate (this was a problme as both war/nin and nin/war, but moreso with nin/war). It was going after the mages like crazy.

BTW, what is the point of re-raise scroll? If you reraise he will kill you immediately upon waking up.

Non-gimped Pld > Nin

Pretty much save your 2hrs till hes at ~35%, then go nuts. Hi-potions are necessary, and PERSIKOS au laits are extremely helpful

I was able to hold hate on him with nin quite well... we were so close to killing him when he nightmared us for the millionth time and beat me to death without me even waking up. Sometimes he just spams nightmare alot less and that's what you need to hope for.

Erase is very very useful, but if you don't have Erase, you'll want to keep up a pretty constant stream of healing (that means pretty heavy usage of Curagas, and everyone - even mages - chugging Hi-Potions). That Bio effect does something like 20 HP/tick.

Stun = Win. Unless you want to pray you get lucky with the abiliies he uses then you need stun. Keep your stunner hasted with their filters on so they can see when Nightmare is being casted and you can beat it with any balanced level 40 exp party. Seriously it's only Nightmare that makes this BC fight Difficult along with the floor dropping away but that can be negated by looking at the information here:

http://www.gamersquare.com/forum/showthread.php?t=55248

Multiple stunners do make it a lot easier but i've done it multiple times with a single stunner and they've managed to negate every Nightmare.

One final note: I heard a rumour the cap for this BC was changed to level 45 in the last patch not sure how true that is. Haven't tried since that happened. If it is though you can now use a blm for stun and not solely rely on a drk. Good luck.

did you guys position yourselves like that guide from gamersquare suggests? my party split up the mages and melee like this:

XX#XX
OXXOO
XXXXX
XOXXX
XX**X

# = mages * = melee, O = safe tile, X = possibly fatal tile

the mages didn't get hit from diabolos at all, and no one died in my fight. we barely used any of hi-potions we brought either, it was way easier than we thought it'd be. our pt setup was rng/nin rng/nin sam/war war/nin whm/blm rdm/whm. this was quite a while ago, so maybe they updated how often he does nightmare. he used it once on us, and a curaga fixed it a couple seconds later. we did have erase available and it was used, but we killed him quickly anyway.

I just beat this today on my first try. We had the uber dumb luck, though. Our party was PLD/WAR, RNG/NIN, RNG/NIN, MNK/WAR (me), RDM/WHM, and WHM/BLM. We were kinda cocky and didn't plan for it too much at all. We had had no problems with the Promyvions, no problems with the Minotaur, and smoked 2-5 for the server record without any yellow liquids.

So we walked into the The Shrouded Maw feeling kinda cocky. We must have had Diablos down to 75% HP when I suddenly d/ced. He hadn't used Nightmare, no blocks had vanished. I was real, real pissed. I went through the process of logging back in, expecting to be outside the BCNM, but still in the zone. But no, it took me like 3 minutes to log in and all of the sudden I'm back in the BCNM. I get re-invited before Diablos and my party can even load on the screen and I accept. They were getting raped. RDM dead, PLD about to die. I hit Hundred Fists and started going to town- he must have had 20% hp left. He killed the PLD and one of the RNGs before my voke was able to take hate (and my fists kept it). Beat him with 200hp left.

We'll take Ouryu alot more seriously, we know we beat 3-5 on a fluke.

We finally won it today. A couple points worth mentioning as I now know everything there is to know about this fight:

1) +Dark gear helps immensely. Get yourself a Fungus Hat, a Buburimu Gorget, and everything else in the world. I swear it works wonders. I had +26 Dark and I literally resisted 5 out of 6 of his Nightmares. The other one I woke up naturally from in about 5 seconds while everyone else was sleeping away. The run after that we had the tank also go buy +Dark gear and we ended up winning.

2) When you drop in, have the tank voke and run to the east wall and run him straight down the edge of the east wall until you get the corner. Then move to the safe square. This is the only reliable way to get Diabolos into the far corner. If mages are in the other far corner it puts them out of Nightmare range.

3) He no longer drops 3 different patterns, he always drops the same pattern now. The NW corner is definitely safe and that's where all mages should stand.

4) Use bolts. Do not use a bow. He is weak to light so Holy Bolts mess him up good. Damage from Holy Bolt and Zamburak +1 is equal to Battle Bow +1 and Scorpion Arrows, but the delay is much lower. Also with bolts you can hit him with Blind Bolts, Acid Bolts, and Venom Bolts. If you see one of them wear, proc it again. I made the following macros

/equip Ammo "Holy Bolt"
/ra <t>

/equip Ammo "Acid Bolt"
/ra <t>

/equip Ammo "Blind Bolt"
/ra <t>

/equip Ammo "Venom Bolt"
/ra <t>

it worked great. I kept him blind, poisoned, and weakened defense literally the entire fight.

5) Sleep Bolts WILL proc. Not sure if you can use this to your advantage though.

6) PLD tank > NIN tank by far. Even if you avoid Nightmare all the time so the PLD doesn't have to wake up the mages, PLD is just better than NIN. doesn't take hardly any damage and holds hate really well.

Remedy will do it,but they are expensive. Better just to bring a whm. If your getting slept, use poison potions.

a few weeks ago we went in with rng/nin, rng/nin, whm/smn, smn/whm, war/nin, and brd/whm

Basically we all stood in these places like the gamersquare guide says.

XX#XX
OXXOO
XXXXX
XOXXX
XX**X
# = mages * = melee, O = safe tile,

Before we all went in, me (rng) and the smn went in to check diablos out. we thought we would be able to get out of the BC somehow but there was no exit, so we died. outside we get raised and everyone goes in. 38war/nin jumps down first and vokes diablos while everyone else gets in position. me and the rng just kept shooting the whole time (unless we got slept) and the smn died before he could use his 2hr. when diablos started dropping the tiles our 38war/nin fell down and got eaten by the spiders. eventually only me and the other rng were alive and diablos had around 20-25% hp left. We were both in red hp when we both eagle eye shot and barrage him. I ended up killing him with my barrage and both the rngs lived. We beat him our first try. It was lightsday though, which makes him easier to kill ive heard. Now i just have to fix my pc so i can do 4-2.

We just beat this last night.

Setup: NIN/RNG/RNG/SMN/WHM/BRD (me). Won on our fourth try.

Of course, you know the tile pattern:

XXOXX
OXXOO
XXXXX
XOXXX
XXOOX

Using x,y coordinates (left to right and top to down), our NIN tanked Diabolos on 3,1, our WHM stood with him, our RNGs shot from 4,2 and 5,2 respectively, and the SMN and I stood at 3,5 and 4,5.

This fight is all about Nightmare. I can't stress this enough. It hits the whole damn field, it does something like 15 damage per tick, and its sleep can either last a few seconds or a goddamn long time. In fact, on our second run, Diabolos was at 1/3 HP when he decided to spam Nightmare - and bam, game over. Not because anyone died quickly - but we were all low from previous Nightmares and our Taru SMN had bitten it from the Bio. We managed to get him down to 1/10 and probably would've won except for a blunder by the WHM.

So essentially, he decides he likes Nightmare, you lose. This isn't an option, since there's no way to stop it. (There should be some "Dreamessence" or something that stops him from using Nightmare. >.>) Hence, do lots of damage and do it very very quickly.

On our winning run, after buffing and all that, our SMN yanked out Shiva and proceeded to unload Astral Flow. Seeing how Diabolos doesn't hit that hard, Shiva was able to stay alive for all three Flows. Since we started so quickly, Diabolos didn't have a chance to Nightmare until he was suddenly at 2/3 HP. And even then, the avatar was tanking, saving the NIN and RNGs from burning shadows. So essentially we got a massive jumpstart on him.

Even with this advantage, Nightmare was still horrible. I woke up almost instantly, so I was on Curaga duty - woke up the SMN with a quick Cure II and the WHM/NIN/RNG/RNG gaggle with a Curaga. Pulled hate, died when he was about halfway down. Those remaining did the best they could - our SMN bit it thanks to Bio when Diabolos was at about 1/4. Cries of "EES NOW" and "OH GOD 2HR" rang across the arena. RNG #1 EES'd, pulled hate, bit it. RNG#2, at half HP, Bio'd, and with Utsu up, blew EES and a single shot. Diabolos raised his hand for the killing blow... and took a Piercing Arrow to the face. ******* FINALLY died.

Okay, I guess I kind of rambled. Point is that you MUST kill him fast, because the longer he's alive, the more chances he has to pull out Nightmare and double his chances of pwning you. We came fairly unprepared - two of our members had real-life stuff to do in a couple hours, so we hurried out way through preparations. We didn't bring any Au Laits or similar stuff and could probably have used more potions and maybe even an Icarus Wing - and it showed.

Also, if possible, try a PLD tank - the ability to cure someone who has Curaga after the PLD wakes from getting smacked would have been extremely helpful in getting everyone awake after Nightmare.

My ls team mates and I lost to him 5 times before we wised up.

our grid pattern was

ooooD
ooooo
ooooo
ooooo
RMooo

D= diabolos M=whm and smn R=rdm
Our team was rng/nin rng/sam pld/war smn/whm whm/blm and rdm/blm (me)

We had trubble placing diabolos at the start of the fight he just would pull in the rest of the party and keep us within range of Nightmare. Our solution to this was to send in the pally unpartied and pull him to the "D" tile, and take the first nightmare alone, which usually happened very quickly.
I would stand withing casting range of Diabolos but outside of cureing range.

My role was to debuff, dispell Diabolos and heal the whm if he was hit with Nightmare. Yes I was on a unsafe tile, but the tiles glow before they drop giving you enough time to move off it on to the safe tile.

Our strat for the losing runs was more of a self preservation one, to out last diabolos, this is just plain wrong, the Bio from Nightmare will kill a tarutaru whm alone if not erased. So on our winning run, we decided to go in fast and hard. Have the pally pull him, reinvite the pally, and 2hr right there. The rngs needed to stand beside the pally to ensure the mages wouldnt get hit by nightmare. And we rocked him, hard he only got off 2 nightmares and the whm quickly woke the DD's. His health bar just dissapeared, he droped the tile I was on, but like I said I had enough warning I was able to move.

Hope this helps just the way we won our run.

Actually as I pointed out, there is a very easy way to avoid Nightmare. Simply get as much +Dark as you can.

Aura Earring x2
Aura Ring x2
Fungus Hat
Buburimu Gorget
Friar's Rope
Night Cape

etc are just a few. He used Nightmare 6 times during our winning run, and 5 of those times I got the message that I completely resisted it. The one time I didn't resist it, I only slept about 5 seconds and woke naturally. I guess I had s.t. like +26 Dark.
