I give up! The Comprehensive Padfoot GuideFollow

Well, I kept all this info to myself for a long time while I camped it, but now the spawn time is no longer convenient for me. Thus, in the interest in introducing a few Astral Earrings into the economy, I am writing this guide.

Spawn Basics
Padfoot is an NM located in Lufaise Meadows. He spawns as early as 21 hours to as late as 25 hours after last spawn in my experience. As you probably know, he has two drops:

Assailant's Ring - Lv 42 Atk:5; ~200k
Astral Earring - Lv 45 HP->MP: 25; ~4M

At any one spawn time, up to five Padfoots will spawn at any of the following points: (H-9), (I-8), (K-9), (G-7) and one unknown point (most likely north of G-7). Each has an equal chance at making a drop. Some relative chances of the drops from my experience are as follows:

Assailant's Ring: 3/10
Astral Earring: 1/20

Padfoot can spawn over a large area in each of these positions, but will not spawn outside the given position. However, it is entirely possible for it not to spawn AT ALL in a given position for a given spawn time.

Killing it

Padfoot can be soloed at 55 DRG, though some of the spawn points can only be effectively camped at 60+. You might want to be higher, though, as the most important part of killing Padfoot is to do it QUICKLY. Unclaimed Padfoots despawn after 5-10 minutes, so if you hope to get multiple claims, you must either have a party or finish killing it quickly.

Camping it

The best way to camp Padfoot is to run circles around one of its spawn points. There is no need to kill anything; while Sheep will link it, it is NOT a lottery pop. If there is more than one person at a spawn point, Widescan is not a viable alternative to running around. Widescan is slower than pure vision when the spawn is within such a small area.

Why I'm writing this

I've been gathering info on this guy from the start, obsessively camping him everyday for over a week while always knowing much more about it than the average camper. But the only thing I got out of it were a few Lanolin cubes and the knowledge that Padfoot is a royal pain in the ***. There is a lot of randomness here; the only good way to get anything reliably out of this guy is to bring a full party from your LS. Additionally, the spawn time has now shifted out of the times I play, and thus I would be unable to camp it for a few weeks anyway. Finally, there is only one Astral Earring on Carbuncle. It belongs to a person who really wanted one, is keeping it, and whom I was waiting for to get it before I divulged this information. I would like someone to put a few more of these in circulation so that I might get one someday. But I am through camping it for at least a few weeks, and by that time all this info will be common knowledge anyway.

I'd like to wish all who camp this good luck. It's worse than Argus, but the drop is equally valuable and you will not be fighting bots.

They're annoying as hell, that's what they are. They are the reason I only got one padfoot off the last spawn.

Killed padfoot... had the next on scan, but couldn't just run to it, stupid sheep linked. I kept imagining this huge sheep train if I just bailed on the linked up sheep and ran to the next padfoot.

I'm not sure what level they are... but if you are in your 50s, a couple links plus padfoot may give you some trouble.

0/700 on rams for Cubes? Thats Crazy. I get one every third kill.

Back on topic. This Guide was helpful and hopefully soon I will be camping it with my RDM and THF Friends.
