I hope this helps! This is the info I have compiled:

Part 1
Talk to Luto Mewlirah in Upper Jeuno just past the AH and the church.
She asks you to help her investigate people in Jeuno who carry mirrors.
This is where you choose your race/gender of your NPC friend.
When you go around Jeuno, certain NPCs like Red Ghost in port, and Akta in Ru'Lude Gardens will ask about the characters physical features. "Was her hair up in a bun? Was it this color? etc etc". This is the CHARACTER CREATION process cleverly disguised, because this will determine how the NPC will look.
When you've talked to at least one, talk to Bheem the NPC at the gate to Battalia Downs in Upper Jeuno for a cutscene. After that, go talk to Luto again for a Silver Ingot.

Part 2
Zone out of UJ and come back to Luto for another cutscene involving a little girl that's gone missing. Go talk to Bheem and he says your NPC friend went to Eldeime Necropolis after talking to that same little girl.
Go to G-8 entrance to Eldeime Necropolis in Batallia Downs
F-9 in Eldeime Necropolis is a ???, talk to it to trigger NM battle. You do the battle with your new NPC friend. It was REALLY easy since your NPC friend will help quite well.
After NM fight return to Upper Jeuno and talk to Luto for another cutscene. After the cutscene, zone out of Upper Jeuno and come back and talk to Luto again for another cutscene.

Part 3
You and your NPC friend are sent to Sandy to find another magic mirror.
Talk to Portaire in Cargo Room B of Port Sandy for a cutscene.
After that, head to Ghelbsa Outpost to the hut.
You'll get a BCNM fight called "Mirror, Mirror"
The fight is 1 on 1 capped at level 40 against a Carrion Dragon, and isn't too hard even if you stroll in without appropriate gear.
Halfway through the battle, your NPC friend will join you to help you finish things off. After the battle, head back to Jeuno and talk to Luto. After the cutscene you'll get the "Signal Pearl" and the ability to call on your NPC friend in future battles. Happy hunting!

Edit: As far as I know, you get no say in the job of your companion. Mine is the Mithra named Raka Mhaimov, she wields a sword and shield and has Provoke. I suspect she may be a Paladin or a Warrior, but I will have to conduct more testing to see.

Also: Didn't realize there was another compilation up when I wrote this, sorry...

Edit2: The AI so far is fairly intelligent, and managed to keep hate during the Dragon battle despite Ramuh whacking away with the best Bloodpacts I could dish out. At the very least, the AI knew to keep hate off of soft ol' me. ^_^

Edit 3: Big update! If you go to a Rendesvous Point you can call your NPC friend to chat. Just talking apparently brings up idle chat about past events. You can see their level and "fighting style" (Mine says "Shield") or you can ask them to tell you what they're doing, when their HP is low and when their MP is low. At the moment, I cannot determine if you can change their fighting style, but I imagine you can.

A 46Smn could do this easily, your partner will most likely tank it and you just have to dish out the pain. Ifrit does nicely.

damn you SE. whats with you and 1160 errors!?!?

some other info.

20 hour respawn time. gah I hope they fix this. Thats too long espcially if you are lvling a 1-10 job and need to leave the area. also if you select your avatar and hit enter it will despawn your npc. Fix that too SE!

oh I can't wait to try this!

I wonder if the NPC's job is determined by the job you are using when starting the quest?!

Would the NPC change job to better suit you once you also change your job?

i'm so curious, i can't wait for the workday to be over and get home :p

Man, this quest is hilariously easy so far, heading for the fight in Ghelsba now, going to go in, equip my warp cudgel, and Hundred Fist it for laughs XD

Anticipating that the NM in Eldieme Necropolis will be very crowded once people start doing this thing, do you automatically get claim after spawning him? If not I can imagine it will be a challenge to do this for a while.

You're lucky...I'm only lvl 32, there's no way I'm going to be able to take this on for a while.

Based on the statement that "shield" is listed as fighting style, that would lead me to believe that they are a Tank style fighter. Being that it's even listed would assume that somehow it can be changed. Wether that would involve more questing, or just changing your own job, or depending on what job you are when you do the quest, I do not know.

So I just have a general question about how people come up with these solutions to brand new quests so fast after release. Do you to talk to every NPC in every city? Do you have a friend at Square? Do you reverse-eng the code/data? Is there something I am missing... as it seems far from obvious as to who you'd go looking for to start this new quest....

eh??

First someone used a dat reader to find the NPC that started the quest.

From there, once people could play, they went around Jeuno asking every NPC, found the right ones, etc, etc, and did the quest from there.

It's not that hard, and this guide (or several others) are being used by many. Hell, there's a line at the Ghelsba hut with people who want to do the quest.

The level 40 BCNM is extremely simple...don't worry about it.

As an example:

I was one of the first on my server to do this BCNM...there was no information about it. It only tells you it's level 40 cap AFTER it dumps you into it...so needless to say, my level 71 PLD only had a Cassie Earring and a Drone Earring...NOTHING else. Given that, the Dragon still was only hitting me for 20-30 damage a hit.

With no weapon and no armor, I still got the Dragon down to 1/5 of it's health before I died. After that, a kind player lent me a few pieces of gear and a Mythril Dagger. I went back in and kicked it's *** fairly easily.

If you are under level 40, as long as you have good equipment on you should have no problem beating it.

hmm nice awesome info. I guess i should be able to solo that skeleton as my 40 pld? Hopefully my NPC friend will be a DD... *please god blm*

I would guess that the NPCs job would be one that works well with your current one, and maybe it's race. like if you had a taru companion and you were a warrior, it would be a mage whereas if you had a galka companion and you were a warrior, it might be a melee.

Meh, just guessing.
