Um... I was recently passing through the path towards the south end of the canyon, and i ran into a ??? that wasn't there before... Around J-10. When I go to examine it, it says there is a withered plant, or something like that. It responds (in a way) when I trade items - it says "nothing happens." This leads me to believe a monster would spawn there when a certain item is traded to the ???... So, anybody know anything?

EDIT:
I tried trading it distilled water, and it spawned a NM called "Yara Ma Yha Hoo," sapling type, which dropped vegetable seeds and an item called Fasting Ring. The stats are as follows: HP-20 MP+10 STR+1 lv15 all jobs, rare/ex.

Hello guys,

since the update I have been wondering what these luck runes were for myself. Infact, I don't even remember how I came to find this thread. All I know is I was reading on the POL site and I hadn't even read about this new fortune teller (been busy with other stuff), i think I was reviewing the updates on Allak and found it. I've spent the better part of two hours reading this ENTIRE post and it seems that everyone is puzzled about what and how to finish this quest.

I went back to POL looking for any type of information I could find regarding this ***** of a "quest" and I read something there on the home page, that I thought was slightly interesting. Here are quotes from SE's POL site:

Quote:
The Version Update Has Arrived!
FINAL FANTASY XI Development Team(7/18/2005)

All the new content you've been waiting for is finally here!
Experience the stunning climax to Chains of Promathia, and discover a wealth of exciting new quests, battlefields, and a whole lot more in this month's version update.
Update details are only a click away!

basically this is just all the info that they did for the update, vauge info I should say.

But slightly above that post, there was this one:

Quote:
New Song Added with Version Update
(7/26/2005)

Information about the new song added in this update is as follows.

Composition: Nobuo Uematsu Arrangement: Naoshi Mizuta

Orchestra music provides the backdrop for Izumi Masuda's beautiful vocals. Ms. Masuda is an accomplished performer, creating a new genre that may only be described as pop-opera, a blend of both styles of music. Only the most resourceful adventurers in Vana'diel will be able to uncover her grand piece.
Izumi Masuda's profile may be viewed here. (English only)
Click here to listen to a sample of the new song.

Now personally, I'm not one for spreading rumor, infact I have to filter out alot of B.S. from this very site, but that little post got me thinking. What if this whole quest is just to get this womans song? I know people are boiling blood vessles trying to figure this out, and it will truly be one resourceful **** that figures this quest out. Think about it, evidentally a few crystals would be a slap in the face as a "reward." So I'm under the impression that our grand prize will be a song, not just a song but a "pop-opera" song... Has someone already figured out how to get this song? I didn't even know about it until I read it on POL's site, so I might be wrong. I hope I am, because I don't like pop and don't care for opera that much. I shudder to think of a combination. Please someone say that this is not still a possible "Reward" for this quest.

The song is in the last cutscene for the COP missions. It has nothing to do with this quest.

OK.. we all know the Aziruth(?) Circle quest and the Fortunate Mystery quest aren't linked, but did anyone think that maybe the quests are based on the same principles?

1) Talk to NPC.

2) NPC gives each person in your 2-person party a direction of where to go to find their checkpoint/lucky ruin.

3) Each person takes off to go find their correct checkpoint/lucky ruin.

4) Both people click on the correct checkpoint/lucky ruin at the same time.

As for titles:
Person 1 changes their title to match the one given to Person 2. Person 2 changes their title to match the one given to Person 1.

Lucky Colors:
It sounds like resistences may be the route to try.

Wisdom Statement:
Can't stop thinking that they are riddles of the items needed to be traded. For the apple pie one, has anyone just tried an apple?

Anyway, good info in the post. I hope this gets figured out soon.

I just wanted to add something...

It has now been about a month since I first messed with the rune.

I revisited the rune today, and received the "You find nothing out of the ordinary" message.

Ran back to the fortune teller, she says the exact same stuff... "Have you forgotten fate's secrets already?" etc etc.

So... whatever this is HAS to be user progressed, not time progressed. A real life month is, in my opinion, more than enough time to determine that it is not a waiting game after starting the quest. SOMEthing now must be done, and I have been going nuts trying to figure it out.

The only thing I have not tried is to maybe equip myself and partner with the corresponding titles, and maybe switching runes, and checking them? I really don't know.

Tried this a little while ago with a friend. We both had the proper titles and still only got crystals when we checked the Runes. So having the correct title seems to have no baring at this point.

It is just driving me insane, there has to be SOME purpose to it.

I am proud of everyone for figuring out this much, but I don't get what the next step could possibly be.

There has to be something there...
One time only quest for 1-3 crystals doesn't sound right. :D

What about the Partner fame checker people in the main towns, if the fortune teller lady says that its the title of your "Perfect" partner, why would the partner be one of the ones the others say will result in death

has anyone tried with a partner the other fortune tellers say would be GOOD for you?

Anyone try trading those crystals back to the quest NPC? Not likely to do anything, but possible I suppose.
#364 Aug 28 2005 at 9:39 AM Rating: Decent
Is it possible you have to look for the other person who has the same element? I havent tried anything on this quest yet but it is just my theory

First off I want to say that everyone involved with this thread has done an amazing job. Holmes would be proud.

If my idea has been explored already I am sorry but I did not see it.

What if your partner is actually your Fellowship NPC?

Prehaps there is a way to give your NPC a title. Maybe it's a quest that will be released with the Oct. update and the other aditions to the Fellowship NPC's. Maybe the NPC has to be a certain level beyond the current cap.

Has SE ever released a partial quest before?

Has anyone tried checking the runes with their NPC out?

Just trying to get some new ideas flowing.

When these first came out i talked to this Npc, then while running to Safehold i found the Luck Rune in meadows. I clicked it and Recived a light crystal. I clicked it again and it did nothing. Ill have to go back and check my exact Texts now. But thought you may find it interesting lol

Went back and checked everything,got..
"Your lucky color is white"
"Your fortune lies west-northwest"
"I see great compatibility with one who holds the title of "Ronfaurian Rescuer"
"Here are a few words of wisdom to see you on your way"
"ill gotten gil becomes gil ill gone"

went back to lufaise meadows checked the "Luck Rune" got
"You find nothing out of the ordinary"
Vana'diel 9/6/979,Lightsday,22:29
Full Moon (90%)

i also interested a friend and she started the quest with me in the party with her.And i found something interesting, may just be coincidence though. Emila told her this

"Your lucky color is Purple, a eletric dazzling Shade"
"Your Fortune lies west-northwest"
"I see Great compatibility with one who holds the title of "Royal grave keeper"
"Here are a few words of wisdom to see you on your way"
"The balance distinguishes not between gold and lead"

we went to Lufaise meadows the nextday and she clicked the "Luck Rune" and it told her..

"You sense your lucky color may bring you fortune"
10/7/979, Iceday, 9:24 Waning Crescent(38%)

i just thought it was kinda odd though that
My Lucky Color is White, and Hers is Purple
White = Light Purple = Darkness; total opposites
But both our fortunes lie west-northwest. and i havent seen anyone report a purple in west-northwest either. May be coincidence, but maybe not :P

great theory, but unfortunately, I have to debunk it... when you try to use your Signal Pearl in Lufaise (and possibly other areas) it will give you a message saying it cannot be used in that area.

Has anyone tried to craft with the crystals it gives you when it say you sense your color may bring you fortune.

I still don't get the riddles though or the relevance of a partner. Maybe you trade the crystals to the other persons rune or the npc like the summerfest quest.

Honestly I have no ideas. and I kinda skipped 4 pages of posts because I'm in a rush so sorry if this has been tried already.

I'm gonna try this next time I have time:

1. Check my luck rune with my perfect partner.
2. Recieve crystal(s).
3. Farm in the area with my perfect partner.

I'm speculating that any recieved treasure is either in the form of "Treasure Hunter+X" or a specific drop thats only attainable under specific conditions.

If true, I wonder if the number of crystals awarded isn't proportional to the amount of treasure hunter awarded.

"distinguishes not between lead and gold" could mean alchemy as the legand goes that lead can be turned int ogold through alchemy, just my 2 cents there

As fascinated as I am with this quest I have a horrible idea.

Have you ever heard of the word metagaming? It is a common occurance in RPGing.

For instance:

The bridge that will take you to the treasure (damsel in distress, monster, stolen children, etc.) has collapsed. If you metagame then you think to yourself, "well this is a game with a required ending so I know if I take this tough path that leads down into the dark valley I will eventually arrive at the place I need to go to.

<devilsadvocate>
What if this quest was solely created for the sake of getting a couple crystals?
</devilsadvocate>

I always wanted to create a video game that can't be beaten because we as gamers expect them to be beaten.

I have always found that metagaming destroys the game and really try not to do so...

Not everything is related...

Hi. I've been keeping up with some of the posts. Haven't read all of them. So hopefully this hasn't been mentioned or suggested.

Has anyone tried trading a 4-Leave Mandy bud?

Those are supposed to be lucky right? Luck rune? Lucky 4-Leave bud....Just an idea. Made try trading one if you have one.

Hmmm, ill gotten gil sounds like Counterfeit Gil-- the quest item dropped by goblins. That's all I could think of :/ Don't suppose this quest could be in any way related to Ferdinand's Diary.

Just speculation, but may the next part of the riddle solved at the protocrystals?
The words of wisdom which are linked to a certain element remember me of the backgroundstories of the elemental avatars (found in the old japanese Vana'diel Tribunes).

- The "apple pie"-quote could be somehow the reward of the friendship between Ifrit and the young woman from his story.
- The "all parties end"-quote of the ice seems like the part of the story where the soldiers of queen Shiva died in search of her.
- The "love will find a way" of the wind seems like the sacrifice the bird Garuda almost made to safe her beloved master.
- The "love their faults" of earth remembers the friendship between a hume girl and the gigas Titan.
- the "balance distinguishes not ..." of thunder remembers me of the destruction Ramuh brought over people and beastmen alike.
-the "fair feathers / foul feet" of water remembers me of the treachery in the Leviathan-story.

Only one problem: there are no light and dark protocrystals and no backgrounds for Odin and Alexander (but the "warrior/weapon"-quote of dark seems to work somehow for Odin) but if SE makes this protocrystals (not necessary summonable avatars, just the crystals) in the next expansion perhaps they will be the next step of the riddle.

So I wonder: has anyone tried to trade the crystals from the luck rune to the according protocrystal?
