Gah!
OK.
For anyone trying this themselves,
the Title Change NPC in Khazam will only give you:

Warcheif, Black Dragon, and Dark Dragon Slayers.

Ie: no grabbing someone in the vicinity of your Rune, we actually have to chase down the *appropriate* name changers.

Clicking it all by my lonesome gave me the message I reported before. Trading Gil did nothing.

Furthermore,
I checked my Rune at Darksday, and I *still* get the same message. So now I'm wondering if White is Referring to something else.

Exciting thread! Been keeping an eye on it all day. It occurs to me that there could be something completely missing in all of this speculation. Perhaps the Fortune Teller is not much different than the weather teller people. There may be another quest required that will lead into having to trade something to the luck runes in a specific order??? Similar to SMN quest, but obviously different.

Maybe your starting fortune is just random, but once the item is identified and traded, you will have to report back to the Fortune Teller to get a new Fortune for the next trade, until you have done all of them and completed whatever it is.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Also, back to strange Aparatus. It seems to have been eliminated as being part of this quest, but perhaps, just maybe, someone should try trading a "Rune" Weapon to these Luck "Rune"s. Just a thought.

just a thought.

has anyone tried to craft anything using the clues from the fortune teller? maybe you'll get lucky and get a HQ.

Maybe white refers to the item you ahve to give it. Show up with your friend with the appropriate title first and foremost. I think that's the most obvious thing to check right now, then we can worry about what the color means and what item you have to trade.

FYI:

Paired up with my roomie... he had West-Northwest. We went to lufaise, and the rune said the whole "You feel your color may bring you fortune."

So I would have to say that is confirmed.

Now... it was on darksday this happened, and his color is purple. So apparently you don't have to be there on that day.

This is a way to confirm directions people... please confirm any you can. Any confirmed will be added to the front.

Read all of the thread...Yes people have caught the reference however no pattern/trend has been discovered affiliated with the quotes. No one is discarding the fact that Alchemy may have something to do with it, however since none of the other quotes are blatently about a guild, the theory is losing weight.

It's still possible...just not probable at this point.

my guess is when it says "You feel your color may bring you fortune."
you found the right rune, now you just have to meet the other requirments

I also find it interesting that the Level 75 WHM got White, and the Level 18 BLM got Black. Not many people are giving thier jobs and levels when getting thier fortune told. Don't know if it matters, but SE does say:

That may be a reference to the quest itself, or perhaps it is a reference to "other elements" about the player, like job, fame, and such.

Purveyor in Justice
The hippogryph has fair feathers, but foul feet.

What quest is Purveyor in Justice?

Oooh Oooh I have an idea. AFter you click the correct rune and you get the message about it possibly bringing you fortune, maybe try to talk to the fortune teller again. Still though, I think it's best to go there paired up and make sure everyone has the correct titles first.

Also maybe both people ahve to check their correct rune first.

What happens if you examine a rune from somewhere else? Like the southern rune; do you still get the same message?

My roommate is a 70blm, I am a 72Rng. We both got purple, I wouldn't read too much into that.

This is a way to confirm, so people please do.

Check which direction you got from the NPC.
Try one of the confirmed rune locations. If it says "you feel your color may bring good fortune" or something to that effect, you just confirmed that direction matches that rune. Please state it, so we can match them up.

Amano.. get your friend to bring a lightning crystal, cluster, and purple chip out to that Rune, and come along with the appropriate title.

Nobody has tried this yet on the Rune that was confirmed as thier "correct" one.

C'mon people.. I'm dyin' here cause I can't get on FFXI to try this myself. x.x

then that does indeed confirm that meadows is N-NW.... but then where are the runes for far and geart distance (if there is indeed an in game difference) and what does that make the rune in pashhow? Can someone with NW go see if pash is their rune location?

Just a thought I had on the Ill gotten gil proverb. What is ill gotten gil? Stolen Gil. What kind of gil can be stolen? Beastcoins. Maybe you need to use a beastcoin of some sort, trade it to the rune or something since it continues with ...ill gil gone.

For the Poor warriors blame their weapons. Maybe you have to unequip your weapon and click it.

For the party one, well maybe you have to be in a party.

For the apple pie one, think they flat out tell you what to do, eat it.

Just some more thoughts since I'm stuck at work and can't even play the game. ; ;

Since you get a message "your color will bring you fortune", maybe you are done with the rune at that point, and have to find the next part that relates to your color. This could go back to the Strange Apparatus theory.

Im gonna repeat my suggestion, cause it seems to have gotten lost. Someone mentioned maybe another NPC was involved...

There are the 2 fortune tellers in Jeuno, the one that required the 4 tarut cards and the one that wanted an orb...

There is also 'compatibility' NPCs in the starter cities, which requires you to find a partner and talk to them. Then they say something about your compatibility and give a random small prize... As I recall, the few times I did it, it was usually a crystal... So, how bout someone get a partner with the correct title (and have the correct title for them), and go talk to those NPCs?

I'm posting this in this thread because it just seems so much smarter now. If you want me to take it out, I'll edit it out. Beware: Long post. Here it is! ^^

Hello, once again, Allakhazam! After reading up on a few threads dedicated to these new mysterious "Luck Runes", and what connections they might have to the Fortune Teller NPC in Mhaura, I've decided to compile the information I've found into a thread of my own.

Warning:At first I thought I would post it in one of the already existing threads, but, as this uses unorthodox methods, I didn't want to deprive anybody in the existing threads of whatever challenge they see in figuring this out on their own. With this said, keep in mind, the following information could contain spoilers, depending on how you look at it. Viewer discretion is advised. Please don't rate me down if I ruin your day because you didn't read this.

Do not read below, the following information may contain "spoilers".

As you know, various "Luck Runes" have been sighted in several zones throughout Vana'diel. Curious as to how they work, I decided to do a little digging with POLUtils, and here's what I came up with:

The following three lines of text are possible response you can get from the "Luck Runes". I don't know what conditions inspire these responses:

"You find nothing out of the ordinary."
"Today is your lucky day!"
"You sense that your lucky color may bring you fortune."

That being said, it doesn't look like these Luck Runes actually DO anything, just provide information about your Luck, etc, as the name would suggest. Digging further, the following is the Dialogue text of the NPC fortune teller in Mhaura: (Warning, not for the faint of heart)

Do you wish to know your fortune?
Fate's secrets can be yours for a paltry 200 gil.
I am sorry, your future is clouded and unreadable.
Come again next week when the fog of uncertainty has lifted.
Have you forgotten fate's secrets already?

Your lucky color is red.
A burning, crimson shade.

Your lucky color is pale blue.
A chill, translucent shade.

Your lucky color is green.
A refreshing, breezy shade.

Your lucky color is yellow.
A gentle, earthy shade.

Your lucky color is purple.
An electric, dazzling shade.

Your lucky color is blue.
A fluid, soothing shade.

Your lucky color is white.
A pure, brilliant shade.

Your lucky color is black.
A dark, ominous shade.

Your lucky color is red.
Your lucky color is pale blue.
Your lucky color is green.
Your lucky color is yellow.
Your lucky color is purple.
Your lucky color is blue.
Your lucky color is white.
Your lucky color is black.

Your fortune lies to the south.
Your fortune lies to the west.
Your fortune lies to the northwest.
Your fortune lies to the north.
Your fortune lies north-northwest.
Your fortune lies west-northwest.
Your fortune lies far to the northwest.
Your fortune lies a great distance to the northwest.

I see great compatibility with one who holds the title of “≺Marker: 7FB105≻.”

And as for your perfect partner...
Seek one who bears the title of “≺Marker: 7FB102≻.”

I'll be waiting when your need to know grows beyond tolerance.
Here are a few words of wisdom to see you on your way.

“The poor warrior blames his weapons.”
“The hippogriff has fair feathers, but foul feet.”
“To love a person, you must love their faults.”
“Love and courage will find a way.”
“Even the best party comes to an end.”
“The balance distinguishes not between gold and lead.”
“Ill gotten gil becomes gil ill gone.”
“The proof of an apple pie is in the eating.”

Observations

The first title she gives you is YOUR title. The second title she gives you is your Perfect Partner's title.

There seems to be two sets of lucky colors. One set has elemental references, and the other does not. What could this mean?

The fortuneteller does not incorporate all of the cardinal directions. In fact, she uses some rather Bazaar ones. This could mean that she is pointing you to a specific place, not just a random direction.

In another thread, the OP stated that he thinks the Strange Appartuses might have some relations to the directions she gives you. The following is the NPC Dialogue text for every Strange Apparatus in the game:

It is some sort of device.
You can feel hot steam leaking from the cracks in the machine...
It feels a little damp...
It looks a little dusty...
You can feel a little air leaking from the cracks in the machine...
You can feel a stream of cold air leaking from the cracks in the machine...
You can hear a small crackling sound from the inside...
You start to feel a little lightheaded...
You start to feel a little dark and gloomy...
The voice of a young woman rings in your head.
“...thorization...grant...
...lcome...octor ≺Player Name≻...”
“It is....will...Altan....
...heaven...lory....ve...mercy...”
The voice in your head has gone silent.
You obtain ≺Item Parameter 0≻!
The device is not working.
“Wel...to the...morph Matter Emulato...
Inser...≺Item Parameter 2≻ and...elementally c...patible chip to begi...item replicat...process...”
“If you...a registe...doctor, emula...ettings will...djuste...accordin...”
“...emulator...ill now conduc...user auth...zation. Please inp...your 8-digit passw...”
“Registr...n complete. Your access...evel is doctor.”
“Passw...error...
Reg...tration comple... Your access lev...is assistant.”
“Yo...dat...has be...recorde...”
“Syste...shutting...own.”
“...commencin...rocess..”
“Warning! Sys...verload!
Enterin...fety mode.
ID eras...d”
“Deletio...process...mplete.”
“...letion process...ailed.”
There is no response...
“S-level warni...
Shutti...own systems...prevent...stem overlo...”
You lost the ≺Item Parameter 0≻.
You obtain ≺Item Parameter 0≻.

Observations:

The first set of lines indicate the element of the Strange Appartus.

Important! If you noticed, I bolded a line. Why? Anyone who has talked to a Strange Appartus before knows it asks for a Password. It was widely believed by players that this Password never actually does anything. However, this line indicates the right password will set your access level to Doctor. The plot thickens.

Conclusion: What we have on our hands is either two seperate mysteries, or one, incredibly complicated, obviously very important mystery. This study is a work in progress, and is in no way complete. Please refrain from posting anything besides your own obsevations and information, to make it easy to sort through.

Either way, we now know a couple of things:
Each of the directions supplied by the Fortune Teller NPC points to something.
Each fortune has an associated Element. So do the Strange Appartuses.
There is a working, undiscovered(as far as we know) password to the Strange Apppartuses. I assume it's in the Storyline somewhere. It probably relates to the Zilart. Any eight digit numbers come to mind?
The Luck Runes do not do anything significant, besides indicate your luck, at the current time.

Contributions? Please, post!
