We all know what a mercenary is this game, a person who offers you in game services for in-game gil.

A Mercenary is a legitimate profession.

Time is money, and if someone gives you their time, it is not wrong for them to charge you for their time(this is how it works in the real world, and is thus acceptable in-game)

A Mercenary may PL you, aid you in a quest, mission or even some NM hunt. Generally, the Main purpose of the mercenary is to make sure you don't die.

Others may claim that Mercenaries extort players? How so, if they are demanding payment, obviously what you want from them is a hassle.

a Merc does something for you, for GIL, how does it differ from WHM's charging for tele's? It's a legitimate way of making gil.

I myself, became a MERC Palidan once, I was in jeuno, didn't feel much like XPing, I just wanted to make some gil, but I got swamped by like 6-7 tells for parties. I went /anon and did a /sea pld, nin, war in my level range and discovered there were none...

So knowing this, I realized I could make some gil, I threw my flag up, along with a Message: PLD Mercenary for hire, $20,000 Gil, I Stay for 1 level up for each party member.

About 10 minutes passed, and I recieved 2 tells, one offered me $10k, the other $5k, I explained to them, $20k thats it! first one accepted my terms and I was off. an hour passed and everyone including I had leveled, no deaths, and no hate loss once. I left then, I explained to them, I did not want to party, I only did it for the money. The BLM was even Kind enuff to give me a warp.

As you see, I accepted money, for something I didn't really want to do. Typically, when mercenaries work, It's something they don't want to do, but everybody has a price for changing their minds.

In Conclusion, I just want to say, Long Live the Mercenary.

I see your point but not really with your story... I know time is precious and people are selling/buying services. But in an exp PT, you got your exp. And you ask for money... dunno..

This isn't being a mercenary, it's charging people to have you in their party. That's pathetic. Maybe I should start charging to party since it costs me over 100k every party as a Ninja.

Whole point is, I didn't want to party, but people wanted me, so I decided to capitalize, its basic supply and demand.

i guess that could work...

i know some people that do it with there thief's when people are doing g-1 and coffer keys.

but sooner or later u might have high lvl bst running around Mpking people for 1mil gil.. cause the other person was in there camp...

so both ways it can be good / evil.

I wouldn't have paid for you, and would have left the party if someone had. No offense, but paying to have a certain person in my party defeats my whole idea of fun and comradery (not to mention, I am tight with gil >.<).

I am also very patient and have a good LS. That usually handles most of my in-game needs =)

I wish you luck on your mercenary endeavours. I doubt that I will be partying with you under these circumstances; but I hope that you have fun!

Well then, I'm sure you have heard of Bribing?

I've actually lost a few WHM's that way to other parties. It's things like that, which is really jacked up.

I Actually have the party leaders names written down, When I get in My 70's, I am going to stalk them, and MPK them while invisable when their guards are down. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

^rofl, jk I don't got a "Hit List".....or do I?

If it's in response to that other dude's thread, why not respond in his thread instead of cluttering the place up?

Your a ******.

And so is anyone that would pay someone for exp party.

I guess most gilbuyers have no concept of how much gil is truely worth. Especally if they are throwing it away at a$$hats like you.

/spit on Hajpoj

#12REDACTED, Posted: Sep 28 2005 at 6:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well, you missed the whole concept, that I didn't want to party, but since everyone was demanding me, I did what was only fair, put up an asking price.

Myrrial said it all to well

Quote:
If I ask for money from these people in order to kill that mob or level that party then suddenly they aren't interested anymore. And it greatly reduces the number of requests I get. Putting the merc sign up is a blessing; as it seperates the people who are willing to pay with those who aren't. And I see nothing wrong with that. If I'm going to spend my time in-game doing something that I otherwise have no interest in doing; well then thats doing work. And generally, people get paid for doing work.
#14REDACTED, Posted: Sep 28 2005 at 6:50 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I like the idea of a mercanary. A RPG should be more than having fun with other players, it is to live your char. He doesn't hurt anyone, he just wants to help people and earn some gil at the same time. Perfect way...

ROFL- way to create a sock to agree with yourself, dude. :)

I am no sock! ^^ (whatever a sock is, I have them on my feet most of the time...)

I just like the idea of doing "not so nice" things in a rpg... that is what makes gaming more interesting. :)

Agree completely.

You don't see RDMs charging the mages every time they use refresh.
You don't see BRDs charging everyone for buffs.

.. I did have a WHM in my party in Kazham that (Jokingly) said she was going to start charging us gil for cures...

I think it's stupid tho, you get XP from being in the party.
You get drops. Why should we pay you?

I can understand Merc's getting paid for helping with things like Limit Break, or AF quests (Coffer Keys or NMs).
But I can not understand Merc's getting paid for things they should be doing anyway.

I should start levelling my Warrior, and start charging the parties $5k every time I use Provoke.

LMAO,

You make your own thread to reply to a thread that you should have just replied to.

You make a sock to agree with yourself.

You think that being a level 42 PLD makes you some kind of hot sh*t?

When I'm not busy I help people to get coffer keys, kill Dark Spark, do limit cap quests, etc. because that's part of MY personal enjoyment in this game is from helping others.

You had the nerve to charge an EXP party for your time to go and EXP with them????

Unless that lv75 ninja paid someone for his AF and stuff, then he has no right to turn around and charge for someone else. Someone helped him, so he should return the favor, that's what a commuity game is supposed to be about. /sigh

Oops, got the threads confused, see why you should keep it in one post. But my point stands.

Well I paid 100k to a 75RDM/NIN to kill Dark Spark for me like 6 months ago.

Now I can pretty much solo it as a 69PLD/31NIN, and have helped about 10 other people get this, and have not charged one person.

Just because you have paid others doesn't mean you need to continue the cycle by charging for your help. If you have time to kill and feel like helping, then help. If you need gil then go farm or BCNM or craft or whatever.

You're getting exp, and they're getting exp, but now you want gil? What makes you so god damned special? Refreshers are a lot less common, so you'll more often find yourself without one of those. You would lose that 20k awfully fast if they started charging, wouldn't you?

Can we all agree that this thread should die.

Sorry, I know I'm not helping by posting this I am bumping it to the top again, but this will be my last post in this thread. Post useful information or opinions in the original thread and forget this one existed.

I see nothing wrong with what he did. Obviously, getting an invite and then demanding money from your party is retarded.

But I see nothing wrong with having something in your search comment. People that are fine with the idea of paying someone will do it, and the rest of you who won't will know to stay away, blacklist, MPK, or whatever else you feel is appropriate.

I really don't see why everyone is up in arms.

EDIT:

Another point to bring up. This isn't a routine thing for him either, from my understanding.

It seems like everyone thinks that he charges for every party, when it was a one time occurance

I wouldn't have invited you if you wanted Gil.

Chances are I would never invite you in the future, and never help you either if I see you need help.. at least without asking some prohibitive price.

Asking for something when you spents hours helping and get nothing out of it is fine.

When you charge for EXP which you *also* get is retarded. I don't care if you are the only whm, pld, brd, blm, whatever on the whole server. I don't want someone like that in the party.
