Do I have to specifically assign the "Temp" file to a new drive (ie: S in your example")? Or can I just move the FFxi Temp file into the "My network area" where the other computer can see it?

When/IF I get this set up correctly do I still use the "/echo" commands on the system playing the game to start the parser?

You do not need to assign a drive letter to the Temp directory, but it helps so that when the system is rebooted it automatically connects. If you have the directory passworded where you have to log into it and you've forgotten to do so the Parser will not be able to read the files and will give you no error stating why.

You can use the echo commands for specifics, but overall it's simpler to control the Parser from the other computer. I never use any echo commands except for when I want the Parser to figure my XP/hr.

will using this parser have any ill effects on gameplay? ie. can you be banned or anything for using it?

As taken from Spyle's FAQ:
3-Q. Is this program against the FFXI ToS?
3-A. No. It only copies log files that are readable in any text editor. It does NOT affect gameplay in any way. It does NOT read any runtimes. It does nothing more but what you can do while playing with fast hands, a calculater, and pen & paper.

IT'S MIRACLE!! Once I figured out that I had to make the TEMP file INSIDE the play online directory a "shared enable file" instead of actually DRAGGING it out and into the "network" area it startd to work!!(Still noobish).

I noticed that once I started fighting the parser was recording the stats on some what of a delay. Is that normal? I would say 1-2 minutes after mob died I would get results...

makes me wonder if it will be possible to use it on an XBox 360, I mean if they make it possible to interface with your computer (I have no idea really how you transfer stuff from the comp to the XBox, so, sorry if this is a stupid post).

Good read. Sorry to necropost- But the forums on the website for this are looking pretty dead for any response.

For some reason the parser is not seeing my Counter attacks. I turned off all chat filters, and have set reporting fields to make sure the Counter thing is check marked. Think its a bug, or is there something else i might be missing?

It says the parser can only read what you can read, so the parser would be pretty inaccurate on MP used, because of the Conserve MP job trait.

im curious about whether or not the parser will save the stats for all players in a party or do you have to use the /echo parser command in game for it to do that. so i guess if you added to your guide what all the in game /echo commands do it would be a super big help, because the descriptions in the help menu of the parser itself dont really help much.

I've had quite a bit of trouble figuring out how to do DPS. I'd really like to check on DPS in a lot of situations but cannot do this.

I don't know why it's not seeing counters. I've had the same issue and checked various filters and setting to no avail. I would guess that because of what the parser reads that it had difficulty distinguishing what's a counter and what's an attack, but I'm not for certain.

I have sent Spyle an email asking about this and included some parsing results/log files to see if it's something that he can fix.

Can't rate up so I'll just bump instead. The day I started using a parser is the day I started to learn the truth about game mechanics. I wish everyone would use a parser so all this stupid fabricated 'knowledge' ends.

Even when I'm on a mage job I still run a parser to get better insight on the game.

If the parser goes off of what spells are cast to figure MP then you are correct that it could be inaccurate, but for the most part it gives a very good idea of how much MP is used.

You can either set up the stats of each person in the parser or using /echo commands (/echo parser player Ikonic monk warrior 63).

I currently don't have plans to add an /echo section to the guide as I do not use many of them, but given enough interest I may do so.

As taken from the Help menu for the Parser:

Quote:
Damage Per Second Calculation - Displayed on summary.
Commands used:
"start dps"
"stop dps"
"/clock"
"clear dps"

Example:
1. You begin fighting.
2. /echo parser start dps
3. /clock
4. You kill the monster.
5. /echo parser stop dps
6. /clock
7. You messed up, forgot to stop for example.
8. /echo parser clear dps

If you're still having problems doing this please give me full details and I'll try to help you solve the problem.

I'm going to rate you up, because I feel it is a good guide and well written.

However, heed my warning when I say that morons who think anything related to FFXI that isn't written by SE or Allakhazam will probably be chiming in.

Does FFXIP work for Japanese PC version of FFXI?

AFAIK it does not work on the Japanese version. The log files would be set up differently (I.E. Japanese instead of English) and the parser was not designed to work off of Japanese text.

It's ok.

Not enough fields for my taste though.

Lacking % tables for ability boosts such as BRD songs or DRK and NIN spells. this would be very helpfull in determining who should be doing what.

Lacking Weapon skill break downs. doesn't show amount of resisted MB nukes or completely unresisted MB nukes.

Lacks % tables for increases and decreases in ACC and ATK from food. As well as other attributes.

Doesn't have % table for DA and TA procs.

doesn't seperate Duel weild damage into main and off hand tables.

Doesn't seperate individual spells and give resist and unrisist info for each spell as well as further break downs in % of damage each spell did.

doesn't have time tables for average length of fights, average time spent out of fights and average time from 1st hit to 2nd hit.

In all it's a fun toy... but it's like watching FOX news yah it can be fun but the info you get is pretty useless.

Dumb question:

Say you start your parser using the parse/gather logs option, then start playing. Half way through the party, what commands do I use if I want to stop the current parse and begin a new one with a different log file name (say I switched weapons or something and want to compare results)? Or do I have to logout and start a new log through FFXIP?

You can use the following command to set the parser file. AFAIK it will close/save your current file and start a new one, however since I do not run my parser on the same computer as I run FFXI I cannot test this.
/echo parser gather 'c:\mine.prs'

Otherwise you can always add a comment for when you change weapons/gear and then when you go back and look at the parsed data you can choose which mobs you want to get the parsing results for and Recalculate the data. To set a comment use the following command:
/echo parser comment 'type your comment here'

Comments are great for knowing exactly when you change something. I use them often for knowing when I switch gear or pt members. They are also great to keep track of ToD or similar time-critical information.

I've read a lot about this program and was really excited to start using it...
I went to the "official" page and downloaded and I keep getting and error that the .exe file is corrupted. :( Any suggests? I would love to be able to have more information!

I am having the same problem that Faetal was having. It seems my FF logs are not being "refreshed" as they should. The battle data on the logs in my TEMP folder are several weeks old, and nothing new has been recorded since then.

I tried erasing the contents of the TEMP folder as suggested. Now I just have an empty folder. If you know what may be causing this problem, please help me out.

Thanks in advance.

You've gotta go into your config menu and goto Misc 1 or Misc 2, I forget. But turn damage to Log, or both, instead of 'screen'. Then make sure your chat filters are turned off so you can physically read the battle text. It gets kinda spammy, I've never turned my dmg onto log for along time cause its just so crazy when trying to tank.

Thats the only thing i can think of, Unless you've just got the wrong temp folders. FFXI -HAS- to store your logs temporarily somewhere, and I doubt you can 'redirect' the location it stores those logs too- so if you've got the right folder, you should be seeing the battle logs.

I should have mentioned it before. I do have damage set to "log" and not "screen." I also have tried removing all filters and still ended up with an empty temp folder. I'll keep working on it, and thanks for the feedback.

I just downloaded it again on another system and was able to install it with no problems. I'd suggest restarting your system and trying again. If that doesn't fix the problem try downloading it with another browser if you have one. If not send me a PM and I'll get you a link where you can download it that is not from Spyle's site.

After erasing the Temp folder did you restart your game system and the parsing system (if you are running it on a separate system)? At the very least the game needs to be restarted for the logs to refresh. Also, what is the directory of your battle data?

If I'm ever slow getting a reply please feel free to send me a PM.

Yes, I have restarted my computer. I am running the parser on the same comp as my game.

The directory of the TEMP folder is: C\Playonline\SquareEnix\FFXI\TEMP

I should note that I did get the parser to work once, but nothing new has been parsed or gathered in the TEMP folder since that first time.
