i've heard mulitple rumors on how this works... if at all. when do the windows of timed NM's actually open? is it the instant the server is up, the window is up? one person told be the windows opened 1 hour after the servers were up. is it any different for a 24 hour spawn?

Myself and some LS members are at Caripicous Cassie. Cassie Earring {Yes Please}.

We logged out at Smirguh before the update and ended up killing him and getting a pair of strider boots for one of our Rangers.

I tried it last time. Not gonna do it again, at least not w/o LS around to actually kill the NM. I sat around for 3 hours while everyone else was enjoying the new update. Side note: I'm still amazed the cgf were able to get back on so quickly, damn them to hell.

No one knows for sure, but I read somewhere that one of three outcomes are possible:

1.) If the server is never shutdown but maintenence is being done and prevents people from loggin in, the mobs spawn times never change. Some mobs may pop, and idle the entire time maintenence occurs waiting for that moment when people login to kill it. For other HNMs that have a longer pop time, the mob might not pop, but the campers may be confused as to if the maintenence time counted against its window or not. If the same logic applies here, the HNM's that didn't pop will still pop during the same window - as if there was never any maintenence.

2.) If the server is reset during maintenence, all NM timers are reset and all NM's and HNM's pop. No one can really lay claim to this, but there have been several reports of multiple HNM's spawning when they weren't supposed to all at once during or after an update.

3.) If the server is reset during maintenence, all NM timers are reset and all NM's and HNM's pop within a timed period after the servers are reset. This is a little different, because some HNM's would be scheduled to pop during a maintenence session, so it would be expected that they would appear as soon as you logged in, whether the server was rest or not. But in most cases, they aren't and suddenly the window changes and no one knows when its supposed to pop. The same thing happens to mobs that were scheduled to pop in the distant future - they seem to pop somewhat recently after the maintenence period.

Personally I think #1 is true - its very rare that you hear about two mobs that were scheduled to pop during maintenence and reports of only one actually showing. It always seems to be if one pops then the other will. Also, I think #3 is true - Simply because #2 doesn't occur every time, and it can easily proven wrong. Instead, I think the times #2 DOES occur is when they reboot the servers and continue to do maintenence for so long, that all the mobs DO pop and they are just waiting around.

Keep in mind that this is what I've read. I don't really camp a whole lot of monsters - So I really dont have alot of hard expereince to back any of this up. The one thing I am sure of, is that this is so random at times that no one knows for sure - Or at least a decent post about the entire concept and how it works hasn't made its way to me, yet.

Edit: I also forgot to mention, since SE never tells anyone if they are going to reboot the servers or not, there really isn't any point in trying to figure out if a paticular mob will pop or not. Your best bet is still to logout next to the mob and hope your the first it login for it...

i'd like to camp yinyang robe, but its 10 min. spawn time. does that mean it is going to pop 10 min after the servers are up?

All NMs and HNMs are reset during maintenance. If an NM has a set period of time before respawn, it will already be up and ready to be claimed when players are once again allowed to log in. If an NM has a range of time that it can pop, then that window begins when the server is made available again. In the case of 21-24 hour pop NMs or HNMs, they could already be there when players sign in, or it can take up to 3 hours before they appear. I believe that for the lottery NMs, the NM can possibly be up already when you sign in, or they will pop next after you kill one of the placeholders.

HNMLSes take advantage of these situations to get a majority of their linkshell to log out at one or two (depending on how big LS is) HNM pop areas so that the HNMLS can log in quickly and be the first to claim an HNM after maintenance.

I can only speak from my experience, but a while back I logged out in Giddeus to try and get Hoo. As soon as the servers went back online I logged on and he spawned within 2 minutes. Of course all I got was the mitts. He hates me though so its understandable.

My Two Cents:

When the server's go back up for the public, the window's on everything open back up again. For some mobs the window's are longer than others. I have logged near NM's several times and after maitenece they have always popped within an hour or so. I am currently logged by a HNM with the rest of Linkshell, however, I won't disclose which or where for obvious reasons.

Yes... Every window is open as soon as the servers are up. Even if you are not there for the ToD, you can use this info to your advantage. Here is my example from Monday's update:

After Monday's update, I wanted to start camping Shikigami Weapon. Knowing the window was 10 minutes, I assumed someone would be killing it within the first few minutes of the update. I started camping it again, on Tuesday at 3:00pm EST (when the window would open if it was indeed killed after the update), and sure enough, it popped at 3:20, but was not killed by our LS. Wednesday, our LS was the only group camping it, we smoked it, and now I have my Yinyang Robe!

Bottom line, I didn't have a ToD, but could roughly assume the ToD because of the window pop time after maint, and now I have my end-game SMN armor!

My personal opinion is that the NM's spawn time is gone. But they have no space to spawn into. So the moment the first place holder is killed the NM will spawn immediately after it.

You feeling me?

If Argus didn't have such a large window I would have logged at his spawn point (besides the fact that he may not even pop at all). As it is, I rather not waste 18 hours on a hope that he may pop.
