wow after all we've had the patch for a few hours. Clearly we already have the trail and error knowledge to know that. Hint this "someone" is a ******.

I had to laugh at that. Have you seen the huge amount of information around people have dug out of the codes and who knows where else? For all we know that's where the 2 days came from and that was actually what I was asking about.

You have to use him multiple times without using his brother, the exact number is unknown ^^;

This apparently isn't true.

I haven't used him in a week or so before today, using his brother a number of times over that week, and when I traded him a silver piece today he gave me the offer to go to Windurst, which I'd never had before.

I was highly surprised.

questions

is there a quest that needs to be done first?

Is there a level limit?

Do you need to complete the choco license requirements first?

Or can any level 1 or better trade an egg to their stable and start care?

Level 1 job can raise a choco. They get exactly the same cs etc as higher jobs do. Whether there are limits later who knows.

That sounds to me as thought your chocobo won't change shape or size based on the numerous variables that can affect a chocobo--strength, endurance, and so forth--but I wouldn't consider color a changeable attribute. Also, the web site has a nice picture of a Mithra on a black chocobo; my guess is that if they had to pull all the colors out of the update, they would've found a different image to use on the page describing chocobo raising.

My guess is that the five different types of eggs ("somewhat warm," "a little warm") represent the five different colors. Color would be a native and immutable characteristic of the things, not an attribute.

At least, I hope that'll turn out to be true.

Unless of course the attributes, such as Strength, Endurance, etc etc affect the color of said chocobo.

Of course were all only speculating, but if within a month no one has a chocobo that isnt some shade other then yellow, I think it would be safe to assume they meant Color in that foot note and that itll be implemented at a later date.

I suppose the question then becomes, will SE change your raised Chocobo's color to match what it should have been? There's going to be a bunch of angry players out there when they discover they've got a Destrier, but it's going to be a boring yellow Chocobo...
Also, I think the different breeds will have different stats like the races of Vana'diel do--of course, totally unsubstantiated because I have no desire to attempt to raise a Chocobo until at least a month from now. If the previous paragraph's doomsday scenario comes to pass, I don't want a yellow Chocobo; also, I'm not in the mood to get gangraped by synthers/farmers/diggers to raise Chocobos like they did with the PUPs and the wamoura cocoons. I'll wait, when the hype's up I'll strike.

This sounds like an insane time sink to me, I doubt I will have the time or patience to bother with most of this.

As of right now, you can get 3 colors: Yellow, and two unknown as of yet. the other 2 colors of chocobos will come in subsiquent updates.

It already is a time sink...I spent a few good hours today muling flowerpots and seeds to my mule to begin growing all the different types of grass I'll need for my chocobo and my chocobo food synths (I am SO happy I decided to taking cooking up). Altogether, I now have 19 plants with the seeds to make grass for my chocobo o_O.

EDIT: That link you wrote doesnt take into account that SE said they are still testing out attributes...so since that link was from an old update from SE, it is still possible that they havent yet added colors to chocobos.

I really don't think it is. Seems to me you can either log in each day to care for your chocobo, or you can have the NPC at the stables do it for for a set amount of days that you choose. There are many time sinks in FFXI, I honestly don't think this is one of them.

More Chocobo Info

Taken from the link above:

The Official FFXI Website wrote:
Aside from the familiar yellow, we will be introducing two new colors for chocobos. We invite you to try chocobo raising for yourself to discover what colors are available. Additional colors will make an appearance in subsequent version updates.

From what I gather (and I could be completely wrong), the colour should be apparent from the beginning (or, at least, pretty early on). So if you don't like what you get, you do have the option of abandoning that chick with hopes the next one you raise is one of the two other colours.

Edit: Gaaah. Remind me not to go afk while responding to a thread. >.> Sorry for the repeat info.^^;

The colors are there and able to be on the chocobos, its the different size and look based on its attributes that was not implemented. reading comprehension is your friend.

*sigh*

People, I fully expect all bought and quested chocobo eggs to hatch yellow. There were hints in the various teasers by SE that although color (as different from the model changes based on abilities) would introduce 2 new colors in this patch, they would be atainable by breeding. So at the very fastest you'll have to wait a month and a quarter to possibly see the first color chicks.

Remember there are 5 breeds of chocobos (and we don't know the conditions for getting these yet either).

Jennet (Windurstian) can sometimes breed a green chocobo
Palfrey (Bastokian) can sometimes breed a blue chocobo
Courser (San d'Orian) can sometimes breed a red chocobo
Destrier (also San d'Orian) can sometimes breed a black chocobo
Roundsey (Jeunoan) Always yello - your standard rental chocobo

Now as the chicks hatch (sometime in the next week I'm going to asume), we'll need to find out what breeds we are getting. This will tell us what colors are theoreticaly possible. Is it egg source that determines breed, is it stable that determins breed (notice we don't have 2 of the stables yet and we aren't getting two of the colors yet. hummm coincidence???, you be the judge), is the breed totaly random? I remember from someone dat hacking the racing tracks that there were 5 stables connected to the race track.
