FFXi Server Emulator ReleaseFollow

#1 Aug 30 2006 at 3:26 PM Rating: Default
In the upcoming months, there will be a release of a FFXi Server Emulation software base.

The reason for the release if to have a RMT, SE(f'd up antics), and a Player based appeal system....

The gameplay will be nearly or exactly the same as a official server. The EXP mods may be modified in early stages to allow for solo'ing due to a low player base, but as things progress, and the player base grows further improvments will be made based on -player base- agreements, and requests.

The type of connection the server will be ran on is a OC192 connection, which will handle nearly as much as one of the Official Servers on SE's connection.

I'll keep these boards updated, given the player base here wants me to. I'll answer any questions you have, just simply post below. If you want to flame this thread, please do it somewhere else, some people are actually interested in these things, and wouldn't like to read through someones crybaby remarks on the subject.

I am guessing lock and deletion of this thread. I am sure SE does not approve of server emulation just like most every other MMO company.

So there will be no code for people to run their own server?

Prediction:

Day 1) Release
"Ips for ffxi servers are hard coded in the client.. download this tool to update them and have fun on our new RMT free servers!"

Day 2) Adoption
"I can't get this to work..."

Day 3) Panic
"I logged on my main ffxi character today, and all of my gil and items were gone."

Day 4) Joy
"LOL, I made $100,000 robbing hundred of characters across every server and RMT'n the gil"

That's one hell of a sock.

The status of FFXI emulation is still somewhat ambiguous, as the only one that I've seen with any possible promise has devs that don't like to tell anyone what's going on unless they're absolutely sure something's working.

And when they do announce it, they sure as hell wouldn't do it here.

Assuming you serious (which I'm slightly sceptical) whats your website? I don't see any proof that you actually did this. People haven't been able to break the encyption since day one. I don't think this guy has anything to do with ProjectXI. I wouldn't put too much credit in what he has to say.

Server emulation if anyone ever got round to really doing it would be very poor at best. Tons of stuff in ffxi is unknown, like drop rate modifiers, some mobs' exact spawn conditions, exact formulae for combat etc. Since this stuff is done by the server, the people developing it would have to guess, and I'm betting the world would end up very different.

... Because creating a thread about a thread isn't a waste of a thread? Why not post somewhere else where your audience is "actually interested in these things." Posting in a place that you know ahead of time isn't going to be well received and expecting not to get flamed isn't very smart.

While I'm pessimistic the OP has any real server or any real code, I can't help but wonder what a private server would be like. It would be pretty much paradise. The GM's could pretty much do anything they wanted; You could spawn a bunch of Kirins in Rolanberry, or have an NPC selling Kirin Osodes for 100g. Every mission and quest could be soloable. Fellow NPC's could be uncapped, called anywhere, and be beefed up to be far overpowered. Warps straight to Sky and Sea. Mobs could give huge amounts of EXP. Ullikummi could be put on a 20-minute respawn timer, or hell, EVERY statue in the Shrine could be an Ullikummi. Crafting? Please.. either make crafting stupidly easy (level 1-50 in an hour on ingredients all at ONE NPC) or just make all the end results of crafting buyable at NPC's so there's no point in crafting at all.

I ran a Ragnarok Online private server for a while and it was a blast. The users were genuinely HAPPY and had alot of fun. My fellow GM's and I enjoyed creating quests, stories, having events, and all that stuff. The power was addictive. Best of all, we hand-picked all of our users, so it really was a server of nice people and people we trusted. In fact, last I heard that server was still running in some way, even though I haven't been involved with it for well over a year.

I just want to know who in their right mind can afford a OC192 pipe without making some type of revenue. Unless of course you're running the servers from your dorm room, which means you just have access to an OC192 line but doesn't mean you have anywhere close to the bandwidth available because everyone else on campus is using it. Not to mention the fact that the admins will notice the spike in their network traffic.

The poster is a sock. Past posts like this came up and it's still the most naive view I've seen on how this game operates.

Wait wait, I reply with a post suggesting that the OP is probably false, and that XI emulation is likely not ready and I get rated down.

The next post after me is the equivalent of "where's your site gimmie free XI przkthx" and they get rated up?

That's easy; they don't have the pipe all to themselves. You and I could say "lol we have OC192" because at SOME point in our internet communication an OC192 is probably involved. I worked at a data center with a couple of OC3's and our customers would always say "WE HAVE TWO OC3's!" while they did not mention that several THOUSAND customers were on the same lines.

Oh my, Neo! That's AWESOME news! I can't wait to see the release! Though, I wonder how SE will react to it... Will they allow it? Will they ban users for using it? Due to the manner of how it works, I would hope SE would allow it..

Ignore these jerks trying to emulate FFXI

They are simply trying to get word out so they can say ZMG! servers are up for RMT free servers.

Most likely they will be just a login screen and you input your info and it says some error message. They then login your character and fast send everythign to a mule and have that mule send to another mule and hibranate for 30 days before they just sell it all and make a sh*t load of $$$.

These peopel have been posting this emulation crap for months, nother has been done and nothign true emulator wise will be done. If it was real it would be done already becasue 90% of the information of the game is installed on your Harddrives. It isnt that hard to make a fake login and run the game on your own PC, thing is you are alone, and even if you server emulated it it would still be just your little group and you would also have to emulate timers and a lotta other junk that the remaining 10% is made from.

Quit trying to scam people!

EDIT: Good luck getting your character information off SE servers!

The truthfulness of the OP's post is irrelevant for this...

I would absolutely LOVE to have the server code / emulation code for XI. I would reconfigure my entire PC just to be able to run it as a server. I prefer to play XI on the ps2, but I could switch to PC.

The more general question I have is how do people get ahold of the server code in order to create an emulated server? The odds of someone writing their own code for the game server in order to emulate seems rather.... bad, so I would assume there's some sort of data capture involved?

You aren't very smart, are you nerd?

Smart enough to not be wasting my time trying to break a code and get arrested.

Personally, I like the idea, although it's not likely to happen until FFXI has basically become a noncommodity, like Super Mario Bros. It will be ten years at least, and if Everquest is any indication it could be a helluva lot longer than that.

Anyone looking to release a server emulation package before then is basically looking at copyright infringement. If SE's history of working with the user base is any indication, they'll throw the book at you and never look back, so I'd keep that in mind.

Edit: bah, misunderstood a comment. If you happen to have seed what I said, I didn't said it. ;)

Yes watch for trojans folks.

Getting your character information is easy, I can view it in about 10 seconds.

lol @ guy with the weed avatar being scared about getting arrested for programming.
