because i've given information on how many 75s and gil he has. i don't want people to be fighting over his account... some people are apparently that desperate.

It's stolen... Who is going to fight over it? RMT don't answer/talk to anyone unless you farm where they farm, and if this is some hacker, he'll just /laugh you and walk away. You don't make any sense...

nobody asked se to protect my computer. they're supposed to protect my account, with my information, with my character, with my gil, with my crap!!!
but i'm not asking you to understand, i'm not expecting u to, i just hope somebody you get to feel how it's like, to have an account stolen, your 3-year-work, just disappear, and i hope you loose your codes too. :P

They are protecting your accounts, if you don't protect your computer and people are able to steal your account information from this. It's not SE's fault.

But yes it has already been said, They have a crappy customer service. They are changing their ToS to make it easier to get your account back. It'll take a lot of time because they need to make sure there will be no flaw enabling anybody to get to your account via that new retrieval method.

Also if we have a character name/server it doesn't give us your POL ID/Password. It the exact same thing as if I crossed you while playing.

When the hackings first started, SE wanted you to verify the current Credit Card number. The hackers changed this number so you couldn't even lock your account or retrieve it. Everyone demanded that SE should be verifying registration codes instead of your CC number. Looks like they finally listened. If your bf can't find his codes, he might be SOL ; ;

ok, maybe i don't understand. how is my bf's character name and server going to help you help him get it back? tell me that, and maybe i'll give it to you..

You really are a ditz... Okay, here is the deal. You give us the character name and server, and the people on that said server he is on, will look out for him and pretty much make sure he doesn't hang out with anyone except RMT.

See, learning is fun!

We can see where his character is. He'll more then likely be transfered to another server with all his sellable gear stripped :\

Yeah, it is a bit fishy.

If my uncle Ted's account gets stolen, I quit too!

I hope this stays in the playerbase's memory for a good long while, so at last we can stop reading about the poor foreign family man with his army of kids who feeds them by stealing accounts and fishbotting. It was always ridiculous, now it's a little more obvious why.
They don't care about any of us and our use of the game, not even a little, so ***** em.

If the only way you can meet your boyfriend is on FFXI, my suggestion is to go dutch with him and get him a new copy if he can't get his old one back in a timely way. PL his new character and help him out if you can gilwise.
Be patient in the meantime, it seems to be taking a while for SE to recover accounts. I wish you luck with this.

The guy has proof he owned the account if the credit card was timed with the account at any given time. There was a really great post somewhere that basically says to write SE and ask them to hand over the account information tied to your credit card; send them what they need. I think they got 30 days to comply? The next step is you dispute the charges with the credit card company saying that you've been wrongfully charged for an account since SE is saying it isn't yours. Your credit card company will send the documentation to SE.

SE has so and so days to comply by law. They must hand over the POL ID, password and everything. Or else they have to pay your credit card all that money. Now... this is a long drawn out process; this is what I remember anyways might want to have an official alla member search the forums for the post and link it. But yeah as for the gil and equipment; check out ffxiah.com; more than likely it's gone. People have pointedout that you /can/ get the account frozen, but it's another whole question whether you'll get it back or not.

he goes to england every year with family and stays at the family apartment. nobody is there at the moment. except the janitor who's too dumb to look for a stupid manual. they only go there every summer to escape the heat.

and the reason i blame SE for this, and you can laugh all you want, is because if you make people pay to play a game you made, you should take responsibility of protecting these people from such theft! otherwise, maybe you're not supposed to be in the game business.... so yeah, I BLAME SE! and i probably blame u too...

Right cause its not like SE is making millions of dollars from their titles, nope they shouldn't be in software development at all!

Maybe because some of these people are interested in helping -you- locate where the stolen account is currently located. You may not think it, but it helps knowing the hacker's intentions, especially if you decide to report this to SE.

Are you going to refuse stating your BF's character name and server to the SE representative when he fills out your compromised account form?

The account has already been compromised, and tons of sensitive information is in the hands of someone outside of the country even.

As for blaming SE, blame them all you like really. It won't help solve anything. I learned that the hard way.

Blaming us won't do a thing either.

Rated up for this. Little hard to feel sorry for their predicament when they're ganking your account or friend's accounts, now isn't it? (That's not directed at the OP, btw). Maybe now we can stop with all these bleeding hearts trying to back up RMT and finally put them in the right light as the boil on FFXI's collective *** like they are.

I've only heard of a few instances where accounts were retrieved, there isn't much you can do, especially without the POL reg codes, i'd imagine people want the character name and server so they can either avoid him, see if his account was sold on or watch FFXIAH.
#42REDACTED, Posted: Jan 24 2008 at 12:45 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Correct me if i am wrong but moving a character to another server changes the name of that character if a name already exists if a character of the same name is already on that server?

Ok, first off, take a chill pill and sit down. Are you 100% certain it was stolen? Are you sure he just didn't enter in the wrong password? Your POL username password is most likely different from your actuall account password because of the password changes they did recently.

Double check and when it prompts for password, try an older password. Has anyone seen your b/f's character online? If not, it probably wasn't stolen. Check his name across all servers on ffxiah.com. Is all of his stuff being sold off? Then it probably has been stolen. If not it most likely hasn't.

Try the password thing. This has happened to a few people I know and myself included. If you notice there are two passwords, the first one (if say he has multiple accounts on his computer he could be automatically signing into the wrong one)is just a simple password on YOUR side. If THAT is the password that is incorrect I can say with 100% certainty that his account wasn't stolen.

That first password is user side only. Again, double check he's signing into the right account and using the correct password.

The only good thing i see from the recent mass stolen accounts is that the idiots who stole it took over too many at a time.
This surely opened SE eyes and has affected at least someone you know in FFXI (2 good friends of mine wiped out from this).

This is a new turning point in 2008.

Everyone manually (do not use the pc or anything that can connect online) should make a backup of their account information without password.
Pen and paper: Write down all your registration codes (pol, ffxi base, zilart, cop, etc etc) server, account character name, current and past CC info with only the last 4 digits of your card, real name and address 9just for the hell of it), where you have ffxi registered on (pc, 360, ps2, ps3 etc etc), mules and/or content IDs, list of important equiptment (AF sets, expensive armors, expensive weapons, expensive items, rare or ex), important job levels if possible, ranks and mission logs (windy rank, Toau 33, COP 4-4 etc etc).

Seal it and put is somewhere safe. Put it in a book. Store it in the refridgerator. Put it between your bed matress.
Store it at a bank, put it in a anti fire and water safe.
Just put it somewhere safe.

If SE really will change their policy about stolen accounts then every bit of info you can provide to them would help.
Being serious about your account would open SE's eyes wider.

As for thoes who had their accounts already taken without the proper proof of ownership, i can only feel so dam sorry for them.
You should always have your proper registration information but if you dont its ok too. Things get lost and you can forget. Its normal and not really should be blamed.

Ending:
You could say its just a game but you put your life and so much work into ffxi and feel like your heart was ripped from your soul.
Personally wouldnt call this just a game. Its a huge community among friends and teammates across the world joined together by the same intrigue that we share. Sounds corny as hell but its true.

Adding to this, the person using the character probably is the innocent buyer who knows no knowledge where or how the account was obtained.

Well, i just had to laugh. "innocent" doesn't go with "buyer" when it comes to RMT.

But it's true, that character would be easily distinguishable for his utter "no knowledge" about the game.

Btw, Zel, i think they said they called to SE and SE told them that the account information had been changed that very day, so that pretty much nails the account theft.

Ah, musta missed that part. There was alot of screaming and yelling back and forth, too much for me so I just skipped ahead after the first few posts tbh.

Well that sucks, sorry for your loss then. I used to be a part-time user of Firefox until this. Only using it for sites that I didn't frequent very often or when searching for things. Now I'm a full time Firefox user.

Shaiamy, I'm sorry this has happened to somebody you care about. If I may offer some advice...

By the time SE gets around to doing anything to fix the problem, everything your boyfriend worked his butt off for will be long gone. You and your boyfriend should do yourselves a huge favor: quit playing FFXI and put that time an money toward something more useful, like enriching your real lives. That's what I did and I'm happier now than I ever was while playing this game.

If you begin to miss the game, just come to this message board and read about all the BS people have to put up within FFXI (other players, RMT, SE sodomizing its customers while smoking a cigar made of money). Not only is it entertaining, but it serves as a strong reminder of why this game (or any MMO for that matter) isn't worth the time and money.

SE has the player base wrapped around it's finger, and they (SE) know it. They know that players will ***** and moan for a time, but not forever. Eventually the players will stop complaining and, instead of keeping on SE's ***, will go back to playing the game. In the case of a stolen account, they will start over only to have their account stolen again after they have built their character back up. SE will get around to the players' problems in their own sweet time. Meanwhile, players will continue to make SE filthy-stinkin' rich.

I'm sorry for your boyfriend's loss, but maybe it's a sign that it's time to move on to better things. Best of luck to both of you.

I suspect SE employees lol, cause I was screaming at them over the phone, i was pissed off with all this BS information you have to give them. It takes 2 weeks to give them the right information (you've got to remember this is not the only thing I do in life) by that time, most of my expensive gears were gone, now I'll have to start farming again for gils ..darn!

I lost total sympathy for you at the point where you start belittling your janitor.

For every finger we point, there's 3 pointing at us.

Just so you know, you don't need the registration code if you are an existing player to install the game in another machine. As long as you know your log in information. There's also a security token to protect his account. Finally, the only chance of someone getting his information stolen would be if he/she went to suspicious sites or video games site, which can be protected most of the time by just using firefox.

I don't mean to offend you but you are calling someone who has no idea what FFXI is dumb. Think about, who's really dumb if he had followed the security measures above?

FFXI is 6 years old now and the topic security has been around for a long time. It's not like he was an innocent little lamb going to the FFXI land for the first time.
