There seems to be a serious decline in interest in the world of Chocobo Raising/Racing. Understandable since the time involved to get something of worth, doesn't appeal to the average gamer.

Like the NPC Fellows, I know there is a cult/underground society that has "some" interest in this stuff. I just finally completed my collection of all 5 colors (well, 4. Who needs to have a personal Yellow Bird?). And then SE hints at the one color, I wanted from the beginning, White!

Thanks to SE's "Water Torture" technique of leaking out information, drip by drip, I wonder if the info/pic they provided, would mean that we can possibly raise these birds, or if they will just be a feature, in some race, or lame event.

The biggest turn off for me was the fact that my Top grade chocobo can be bought at a rental for cheap... Why should i raise a 10 str and 10 end choco that is only on par with rentals... Make "Average" speed(2x) be stable speed, and give the people who actualy try to raise chocos the oportunity for a faster/longer ride. make say rank 10 2.5x or 3x running speed. Make it worth while.

Stop trying to make you're superior simply because you choose to spend countless hours on something that the 'average gamer' has no interest .. choosing to endure a time-sink isn't a sign of an above-average player.

And what makes you superior? O.o

That wasn't even close to what I meant. AVERAGE = general population, nothing to do with player skill. This is a side game, nothing that requires skill. I never claimed to have any uber skill, atleast not from this. If you are gonna flame, please come back with something more substantial than that.

I didn't feel(as much as you can from text) that DVS was talking down to anyone.

It doesn't appear to be worth it to many because you CAN buy a chocobo that's faster at a stable.

HOWEVER. You don't have to have an END 10 STR 10 Chocobo to have a decent bird.

Mine is only slightly slower than rentals and only has big claws (high STR i think?). All I did was follow guides as best I could. Sometimes I missed days and other times I was on point. I think I did a decent job and I consider my self an average player.

I enjoy being able to call my chocobo when I need to and I love my chocobo. It's not for everyone but to those who enjoy it, it is a rewarding experience as well as the ability to call your own special Chocobo.

I've raised other colors just to have them but I didn't do anything special to them. Just left them on general care so I could have the furniture. I would be interested to see if a White Chocobo is possible.

It's my speculation that if it is possible to raise a White Chocobo it'll be through breeding like the Golden Chocobo was in FF7. Only time will tell!

Edit: Forgot to mention. Just because I like my chocobo. Green Chocobos FTW! SmokingGreen is the best!

Not quite. It's definitely on the side, but it's a far stretch to call it a game. Rasing a bird may take two months, but the overall involvement of the player is probably less than an hour during that time span. Racing is just a CS, not even a particularly interesting CS at that.

That's the real reason for the decline. Those that wanted to raise a bird for transportion/digging have, and have moved on. There are rewards for racing in the form of chocobucks which can buy greens/carrots which sell for a nice profit to NPCs, but racing itself is so incredibly boring that you have to be a special kind of ********* to actually enjoy it.

Chocobo raising probably isn't "worth it" if you don't actually enjoy it.

Personally I raised one racing/riding chocobo with capped stats at 8/7/4/3 for Str/End/Dis/Rec. It can be useful in certain situations, like OP warping and being able to ride a chocobo right from there (great for places like the kazham jungles). I also enjoy the chocobo circuit, and you can even make a little money through winning circuit races or selling some of the items you can buy with chocobucks.

But all that said, I mainly did chocobo raising because I wanted to. Any benefits I get from it in other parts of this game are just an added bonus. There's a ton of content in this game that doesn't necessarily have to boil down to leveling and making gil. To some, raising a chocobo that can win circuit races or beat the super chocobos is an accomplishment in itself.

Another problem with choco racing: you have to spend tons of chocobucks to join a race, and only if you win do you get them all back...

Inability to use your bird in various outdoor zones also hoses the effort of levelling one up.

Um you can use your bird wherever you can use a bird... How should THAT be a factor?

I have a question about all this choco raising. I read that after 180 days , approximately, that your bird returns to the stable and you have the option of raising a new one. Does this mean the bird is no longer available to call in the wild as a mount?

This single fact alone has kept me from raising my own. However, if I'm wrong, and once you raise it, it can be kept/called forever, I'll certainly take the time to raise one.

Your wrong, once you raise it you can call it forever until you trade the card and the whistle in to reregister to a new chocobo (say if you get a new color, decide to switch from a speed to a digger/racer, or just improve your old chocobo's stats.

I still use my original green racer despite raising 3 more chocobo's after the fact. All you have to do to keep the old chocobo registered is just recharge the whistle without trading in another chocobo card.

Can i ask a silly question?

/em waits for a response.

Mkay, thanks. About how much does it cost to raise your chocobo? I have read about feeding it and medicine and all of that, which has kind of kept me from raising my own Chocobo. Any average amount that it takes to raise one would be greatly appreciated! :)

It really doesn't cost much, especially if you grow your own food from wildgrass seeds. You can sell what you don't need at a good profit even to an npc. While raising your chocobo, you can have it dig for you. Mine dug up tree cuttings and mythril beastcoins among other things, which help to pay for food and medicine.

It does take some time. You have to go to the stables, preferably every day, and the cutscenes for training take a little time. (SE has made it less of a time sink by making some of the cutscenes optional.)

So, base line, figure around 1-2K per day for food and medicine (much less if you grow it yourself, more if you give it fancy foods) less whatever you can sell from you choco diggings or from extra harvested items. Maybe 20K overall while you are raising it.

If Chocobo Whistle was free I'd do this, but 1-2K per call doesn't seem like a good investment of time to raise one to me.

I think for there to be a decline in interest, it would require that there be interest in the first place.

Nobody actually pays for their whistle to be recharged, at least nobody with half a brain at least. Whistle Coupons are your friend.

You are indeed wrong. Not about them dropping the price, but about what they dropped it to, it's now 400 per charge. I still wouldn't actually pay for it though.

Incorrect. As long as you keep the Chocobo Registration Card that you receive when "retiring" it, your chocobo will exist forever. You can rotate thru your chocobo's (assuming you own more than one) all you want, as long as you keep the Reg. Card.

Sometimes I get bored with riding my Blue, so I switch to my Black. Just never drop that card!!!

You can get Chocobo Whistle tickets from racing, I believe. At least that's where I think they come from. I don't think I've ever paid the full price for a recharge. People throw those Whistle Tickets up on the AH for next to nothing.

You know how much of a fool you look like when you quote part of a post and then post EXACTLY what the last half of the post says while saying the poster, who posted the SAME info you just did is wrong?
