On the world's name, Eorzea...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eordea

This popped up when I typed it in, and one interesting thing is it mentions the word Eordea is derived from Eorda, meaning "Mother Earth". It seems fitting that SE would have named it something like this, as they love using mythological and historical references. And I guess you could say Eorzea is just another step of the word changing from the original one heh.

I hope SE will keep FFXI going along with FFXIV so it can be like EQ 1 and 2. Last thing I want is being forced from one to the other while I'll more than surely not be any closer to completing my goals in FFXI.

Well Forza 3 WAS the game I was looking forward to the most. : \

I wonder when we can pre-order. :P

Also, I doubt they'll do character transfers, this is a new world to experience! Why would they let people start at the end!

p.s. Final Fantasy XIV is still an ironic name. Also anyone who calls it FFF owes me a quarter.

You know, I really, really, really, really, REALLY want to think that this is gonna be great, that SE's learned from all their many absolute cockups over the course of FFXI, and that the developers who were responsible for said cockups have not been allowed anywhere NEAR this project, but... ****, this IS Square-Enix we're talking about here.

just curious has any MMO ever let you transfer characters before?

14 has the same races as 11, thus leading us to believe it'll share 11's history/story/background. This makes is a sequel, of sorts.

Sure, you might not be able to transfer your character, but maybe SE will be taking a page from Guild Wars 2 and use your character's equipment and/or achievements and "save" them over to enhance your character in 14?

Eh?

In GW you're supposed to be able to go to the "Hall of Heroes" and save off some form of data for when GW2 goes live, in which case you'll have access to... something.

Btw, Maldavian, don't be a jerk. You're not on the dev team, you don't know what they're planning, so don't discount anything that people want to speculate on. That's part of the fun of speculation.

Quick, someone invest in providing work-at-home solutions for half of the english speaking population of the world...as well as the half of the other major countries' population. We have Star Trek Online, Star Wars: TOR coming out...ontop of FFIV now, not to mention the hours you'll want to sink into Mass Effect 2, and don't forget the other tons of games...I don't think I've ever been more excited(and at the same time, almost overwhelmed knowing I can't play 3 MMO's at once!)about E3 news releases.

I transferred the 1080p trailer to my PS3 and stepped through the brief gameplay footage (on the boat) frame by frame. Here are the couple of things I noticed that I missed before:

-Monsters appear to react to hits realistically. The Galka's axe makes those jellyfish squish up and go flying as you'd expect.

-The sheer number of monsters involved and the way the Galka goes after a different one with each swing might suggest that the battle system is based on fighting multiple weaker mobs at once instead of teaming up on one strong one, which is something I really hoped for in the new game.

-The "bubble" spell being cast by the Mithra deflects the monsters. They're coming at her, but they can't go through it. I thought this was very interesting... it could suggest that there are more ways to control mobs in this game than we're used to. Could you cast a spell like this and camp safely in a dangerous area?

I'm probably reading too much into this stuff. It's possible that what we saw (at least the Galka part) was just a scripted sequence rendered in the game engine for the trailer. Still, it's not like we have anything else to go on.

TL;DR

Anyone notice something, odd?

The same thing happened with MGS2.

Japanese game announced at E3, a US show. Wasn't XI announced at TGS?

Probably means nothing, just an observation.

I am waiting for footage of game play before I get excited. This trailer could simply be from the into video similar to FFXI. I can only hope that game play is similar to XIII graphics wise.

It depends how they want to do it. I'd expect lower graphical quality overall, just because FF 13 is an offline game probably using much less models on screen. Unless they make it heavily instanced and focusing on small groups that is.

There is clear real time stuff going on in the trailer, only one part of it, but in the HD trailer the boat scene is clearly in real time. If you thought that looked good than you should be good to go :P The models themselves seem pretty good, and the possibilities of enemies that size we have to fight is awesome to think about (the leviathan). It might be a Cutscene also, but that is definitely real time.

What i'm really confused about is.....1)Why are the same races present, i thought it was a completely new diff. world/storyline. They also said it wasn't a sequel FFXI. 2)How the same races ended up in another world.....Or maybe, this trailer is of how the races were whiped out during some kind of war. Who knows. Then it fastforwards to the future. 3) Why people want to transfer their characters so badly? I mean, it just defeats the purpose of starting a new adventure. I know you get attached to your characters but at some point it will end XDD

then again...the races look super similar so you might just be able to transfer. We'll see. I've been waiting for this MMORPG since i quit FFXI for good. I tried WoW and countless others and didn't get into the at all.

It's real-time, but I seriously doubt this is actual gameplay. There was a lot of real-time action in the original FFXI cinematic, which never translated into actual gameplay.

For that, I'm expecting it demo'ed at TGS and fan fests to build the hype.

It's beautiful...

Just imagine if SE had used this level of technology when making FFXI. I have high hopes for XIV now and though my heart will always belong to FFXI first and foremost it is unthinkable to me that I would not play the new game.

I actually hope they do remove the subjobs ability it will make job focus a bit better instead of leveling another job to support a main job, but still keep the ability of being able have all jobs. I feel if they remove subjob ability it will make it more interesting. Before ppl use to discriminate other for not having the sub job that they felt they should have with there main job which use to lead to ppl not getting partys, etc, and i think if subjob is remove it will give more a focus on more group association knowing a war is a war, white mage is white mage, redmage is a redmage i think you get the idea of what im trying to say. Keep the integrity of being able to select and use any jobs you prefer at any time you wish to use. Another thing i hope they dont pass on to this new installment is being charge for extra for every time you make mules i can understand charging a fee of dollar to make a another character along side your main but to add it in addition to monthy subscription would be tedious as it is in ffxi. Even though this new ff online is coming out next year it will have to contend to the newer mmo coming out such as aion which seem to be already gaining popularity, SE has there work cut out for them and i hope they just dont ***** it up. Also i hope they make it that you can chose between different language servers, instead of being put all in the same mix. I think a lot of ppl are tired of trying to understand what some one else is saying and auto translate is so limited.

SE is having a conference tomm at 11:00AM PST, expect them to show game off than and it just recently got a live stream option for it on a couple sites so we should see whatever they plan to show this time. If the game is really coming out next year they should have a ton of stuff to show us, the game has been in development for 5 years now, if they don't have enough concrete stuff to show, its not coming out next year. And also I was responding to the idea how what the game will look like, FFXI never had different models between in game and cut-scene so what we see there is what it should "look" like. Now we just need to see how it will play.

Definitely all the original races!

Now click the arrow on the left side of the frame and look to the very left.

Mithra.

Well, seem like I am one of the few who expected this. I am very happy and glad to see same race around, except I wonder what will be the twist of the story to have same races on different world... but well it's FF the story is always good!

I did beat my addiction to FF over a year ago, and I plan to start this game, with a lesson learned, you play an MMP for 5 years + if it's good, so no need to play like an addict and rush it!

All I wish is it wont come out in december of 2010...

Well i know that every time they make a new ff installment the world they place the new storyline is always different, I was not surprise they kept the ffxi character models the race from ffxi is apparently there, maybe they might also introduce a new race, who knows but judging by it look i do think there will be some type of migration of some sort if not oh well. only thing is if there is what happen to everyone who has not completed everything in the original ffxi will it carry over do u start off a new slate, what happen with your past accomplishments, will they carry over, will you be rewarded if you completed every thing from the previous game with new items or weapon, can you choose how your armor will look like, will there be a new organizing of how linkshell are like guild halls, will there be a new limit on your level cap and if so when if you are able to transfer how does that effect ur 75 job will you have to level up a already cap job, question, question? lol kinda make you wonder.
