Don't know if this has been touched on yet, as I haven't read all the pages on this topic, but... While you can't purchase a PS3 NOW with PS2 backwards compatibility... When the PS3 first came out, the 2 options were a 20 and a 60 GB version. (Not the 40 & 80 that came later) The 60 GB version has backwards compatibility, and there's plenty of them on eBay right now. I play FFXI on a PS3.

Unless you're a super hardcore gamer that NEEDS the 80GB or the newer 100+ GB Hard Drives in their PS3, the 60GB one is perfect.

Not to mention, All PS3s use ordinary laptop drives. So if 20/60gb Launch PS3 suits your style but the drive sounds cramped, you can upgrade it and rather cheaply.

Nope http://account.square-enix.com/regist/ they're ditching play online and adopting a web based interface.

Im excited but I hope it isnt as tedious as ffxi.

I think it's good to be rid of Galka tails. What do they do anyway? Nothing like Mithra tails.

All in all, though, I don't think I'd go through another fantasy/SE game unless atleast a handful of my other friends from FFXI wanted to join me in the adventure.

They do two things:

1) Trip unsuspecting Tarutarus; and
2) Hold the Galkas up when they pass out in the mines.

If they didn't have tails, they'd just be steroid-popping humes. The tails are a necessary evil.

I asked my wife if she would play SE's new MMO with me, and she said "Maybe". Considering that she currently says "I hate that game" when referring to ffxi, I think that playing ffxiv may give us another activity to do together.

She refuses to get into ffxi with me. Also, if the environments in-game will look like that of the preview, I'll be quite impressed.

Edit: I'm thinking if they exist side-by-side, that we'll have evil quests like "Have title in ffxi to activate quest in ffxiv, which then allows mission progress in xi or the like." I wouldn't put it past SE to do something like that to us.

More realistically, I can see them giving some kind of minor perk for having other games registered under POL - I doubt they'll eliminate this - like nice novelty items for low levels.

*drools*

If I could kiss SquEnix, I would. If the game is anything like the trailer, I'm going to be one happy FFXIV player!

Now to take up my life of crime so I can buy a PS3!

So I have been watching Bleach for the past 4 hours I think, re-watching the series and I'm on episode 55 with it paused blasphemy I know BUT I just wanted to chime in on a few things I've been reading.

1) Character Transfers: Everyone ******* about not being able to start on the same level as the Japanese players from the get go. Sorry guys you can rule the transfers out. I might be able to believe an in-game item of some sort for ffxi players that have their SE account linked to both games; otherwise yeah. Just no.

2) FFXI Only, Never Start Another MMO People: All lies. Every single one of you who said they won't start a new MMO. You will try it out; quit talking about how this is your last MMO and how you will never invest time in another. You have all tried WoW and other MMOs during FFXI's reign. Quit it. Definitely annoying.

3) Everything else is just speculative fun and I love hearing everyone talk about how they'll think the job system will be, what combat will involve. Down to the no tails on Galka. Moar of this please!

My personal views it's going to obviously be built upon all the feedback; good or bad that FFXI has received these last few years. From players, reviews; even the general population. 2010 is definitely turning out to be the year of gaming. I think the job system should remain; and if they take out subjobs definitely keep the main job switching in.

I wouldn't mind a spec system being added for the game to make everyone unique. Many MMOs up to WoW have been using it. I love endgame merit abilities in FFXI, if they spread it out throughout your character's life contributing to its overall growth, imagine all the possibilities. Yeah you'll have cookie cutter builds. But I think equipment should be more involved to allow for more variations that wouldn't even allow cookie cutter builds to exist.

I could talk for hours. I'm so excited and also happy that everyone else is too. Please... game footage today.... counting down the hours its too bad I'll be at work :/

I think you have to stick to WoW then. SE usually does timesinks with small rewards. And thats the way I like it ;D Work really really hard and long to progress, in another word a hardcore mmo ^^

Thats why they made exp'ing easier in FFXI like increased solo exp and FoV right? Are you simple?

Thats for FFXI not FFIV.

How awesome would it be if we could have our own airship? And shoot things with it, and what not?

I thought there was something in one of the old interviews that mentioned the development of this that they wouldn't do character transfers but instead grant a sort of merit to those who had FFXI characters. Wondering if anyone remembers that or if I just like to read nonexistant things x.x

Well off to bed, can't wait for this to come out.

Btw, Maldavian, don't be a jerk. You're not on the dev team, you don't know what they're planning, so don't discount anything that people want to speculate on. That's part of the fun of speculation.

You can speculate all you want, but I dont want people to go whine on these forums about transfers, since it WILL destroy FF14.

This I would prefer and makes more sense. Some sort of reward for surviving FFXIV's 7 year beta test.

Well i know that every time they make a new ff installment the world they place the new storyline is always different, I was not surprise they kept the ffxi character models the race from ffxi is apparently there, maybe they might also introduce a new race, who knows but judging by it look i do think there will be some type of migration of some sort if not oh well. only thing is if there is what happen to everyone who has not completed everything in the original ffxi will it carry over do u start off a new slate, what happen with your past accomplishments, will they carry over, will you be rewarded if you completed every thing from the previous game with new items or weapon, can you choose how your armor will look like, will there be a new organizing of how linkshell are like guild halls, will there be a new limit on your level cap and if so when if you are able to transfer how does that effect ur 75 job will you have to level up a already cap job, question, question? lol kinda make you wonder.

Again its a new game, try to get over the "transfer char" mentality please.

My stomach damn near fell out my butt when I realized 3/4 of the way through what I was actually watching.

Then when it said -Online-, I was like O_O

Character Transfers or gtfo!!!!

I have worked too long and hard on 11, I love 11 and I do not want to see a remake with the same races kill the game, being on a smaller server is not going to help me either.

Would of rather seen PS2 dropped and them then 14ized FFXI

Then stay and play FFXI if you are to attached to your FFXI char. No one is forcing you to play FF14.

maybe they could give x amounts of gil per level you had in XI, and maybe same for gears. So it would not be such a big disadvantage for new player versus xi player but still could remove some of the pain of switching.

No, lol, how hard is it for you people naging about transfers or items ? It a NEW game, there wont be any special treatment for ANYONE. I hope you can differentiate between a new game and an expansion.

This is FF we are talking about here...

Nothing makes sense its a fantasy, we ride chickens for crying out loud.

:D If SE wants to succeed with this game there wont be any transfers, unless you want the game to fail from day 1 ?

I think I can understand where "some" of the people are coming from (Although most actually asking for full transfers or even a help you item for the new MMO should be ignored as that is not what this is about). Its one thing to have no transfers in other MMO's but they are using the exact same FFXI races. You can even see the same face model from one FFXI hume models in it. But yeah in full agreement... new game, you shouldn't get anything that truly sets you apart other than aesthetically from this new game.

I personally think its possible, however, for SE to give a nod to FFXI players and that is to allow them an aesthetic transfer, and not a content transfer. Maybe have your model and name be replicated on this new MMO and just make it "the new adventures of so and so!" Nothing big, but just the thought of the character you loved in FFXI continueing on, but in a new adventure world where you start out new just like everyone else. Everything else is reset and you can immortalize your character in another world. They have the same races and character "looks" they could do that easy enough.
