A: For FFXIV, the keyword that we've been using is "The Growth and Development of the Character." We will have the same type of storytelling and high-quality graphics. We also want to expand and create new in-game systems. The player can grow & develop in a more natural way without putting too much weight on the player. We will expand the job system to make it fairly different from the one in FFXI.

I have absolutely no idea what this means, but it sounds promising.

Also: woo! Content designed for short play sessions!

Also: woo! No PlayOnline!

...upgrade??

no..just no lol, I'd go with a PS3 before dealing with Vista.

My PS3 HD is currently filled with Stargate:Atlantis episodes, and I am not sure how to transfer them to my pc yet.

I wonder if they will mix people from all over the world in different servers, like they did with XI or different servers depending on the language.

They said there's another year of plans for FFXI. So as of now, no new expansion is in the works...

This game could finally rip me from wow and back into the FF universe, and I couldn't be happier about it.

However, if it is announced that you will be able to retain anything from FFXI (jobs, money, character names) I will not be playing it. I'm done with my FFXI jobs, and while I probably would create my character in FFXIV with the same name and race as my FFXI character, I don't want to have 75 BRD THF BLM. I want to be lv 0 everything, no professions, no money, and just as importantly, I want everyone else to be in the same situation. I missed out on the launch of FFXI (joined at the PS2 launch) and if this turns out right, I won't miss this one. I've been wanting to experience a truly fresh online game launch again. They're truly some of the most amazing gaming experiences in existence, and I haven't been able to be a part of one in many years. If they make anything transferrable, that'll ruin it, though.

One thing I hope they do: plan the economy a little better. FFXI's economy had so much potential for RMT manipulation. If there's one thing about wow they should take a cue about, it's the economy.

They will make global servers like in FFXI. Was stated at the SE Q&A at E3.

I was really hoping for one big server.

Characters wont be transferable.
#463 Jun 03 2009 at 12:47 PM Rating: Good
No character info will be retained from FFXI, because it is set in a different world.

I must congratulate the person that made the interview, nice points dealt, like if the Spanish language would be available and why the people would choose FFXIV over other MMORPGS.

Noticed how the 30min chitchat about FF14 didn't add any new information about the game...

And that they would like to try and do this and try and do that... as if they haven't even started yet so it kind of sounds like it will be for earliest december 2010 (-_-)

Since it sounds like they're going with the same multi-server environment that FFXI uses, I really hope they'll try and retain the same names as well so that we'll continue to see the same people we've played with for the past several years.

If not, I think we'll end up seeing a lot of people parting ways. For example, most likely everyone in my primary linkshell will agree to go to one particular server, but people not in my linkshell or in an alternate would most likely end up on a different server.

Of course, all of that is assuming we'll even be able to select a server in the first place and not have one randomly assigned as was the case with FFXI.

The team claims to be taking what they've learned from Xi and applying it to XIV, which sounds promising, if it really means they're trying to avoid past failures.

"... the Growth and Development of the Character" sounds interesting, as well as the "different direction" they aim to take job classes. Less concrete job definition, less linear progression(pre-level cap merit scenarios, maybe)?

The most promising thing of all is the exclusion of PlayOnline. This part alone made my heart dance.

I was hoping someone would ask these questions today....

1. What's going to happen to the GM system with FFXIV?
Most of time when we contact GM, we only get a few answers, either "We will investigate" or "There is nothing we can do about it". at lest for me, everytime i contact GM, i fell like they are just reading a script back to me, instead of trying to solve the problem, they gave me a feeling like "Nah, we don't want to do anything, don't trouble us" and use this to drive player away.

2. The pool / lotting systems, will there be any improvement over FFXI so people get less chance of being ninja jacked or scammed? For example, ppls ninja the AF2 drop in dynamis, right now, there is no way to transfer the item back to the rightful owner when you contact GM, since that item was never in your inventory. Also for people that get scammed by other player or linkshell. For example we have a command to record the transaction so we can always go back and check the date / time / place when the transact happened along with chat log agreement.

I really hope there is some type of recording / rule system that player can setup up front before event to prevent "Incident / Accident"....

just my 2cents

They refused to include battle system details, so I doubt they'd have addressed loot systems.

The GM thing could be a good question. I like to hope they have learned to to improve the GM knowledge base, so as to actually have useful GMs finally.

there is quite a lot that is now clear that was previously only speculation

-nothing character transfer related
-nothing to do with FFXI going away, yes its still planned on being kept alive
-no PlayOnline (woo!)

etc etc

So, here is a question. The authenticators we bought, are they going to work for the FFXIV accounts also?

Or you could just go straight to Windows 7, which will be out long before FFXIV. Vista runs fine these days, but if you haven't upgraded yet, I'd just skip Vista entirely and go straight to Windows 7, which should run a little faster anyway.

You know when it comes down to it, I've hit that playonline icon, listened to that funky music and gone through that login screen pretty much every day of my life for the past four years. I think I've got a case of e-stockholme syndrome I'll actually be sad to see it go lol

Yes. SE said something like the SquareEnix accounts would be to link all of their games together or some such. So you'll probably use the SE account to log into FFXIV, as well as being able to use the authenticator.

They talked about the beta, there are plans worldwide apparently, but no date for it atm, probably will find out at the TGS

only thing that ive read that concerns me is the "free to play" thing.....

I dont want this game ot end up like that damn free realms where, if u want something, u plug in a credit card number and buy what you need..... that would just be awful....
