IGN says FFXIV will be coming to PC and PS3

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/989/989495p1.html

IGN has already been wrong once this E3 about what consoles big games are coming out for.

I wouldn't take their word for it.

That aside:
It may, in fact, be planned to be exclusively for PS3. FFXI was originally PS2-only.

Also: Rage at them saying FFXIII is the first FF title on 360 =/

why the heck are you all so set on character transfers?
new game = new experience.

I agree with you 100%. MMO is all about exploring and experiencing the new world. At least at the launch of the game. Why do you even want to play FF14 if you want to skipp that part ??

I wonder where all those 'I won't touch another SE MMO' people are now?

Still here, not planning to play FFXIV, wondering why people are so excited about a pre-rendered cutscene they'll probably watch all of once before playing the real FFXIV.

FFXI had a pretty intro CS too. It was almost, but not quite, completely unrelated to the actual gameplay of FFXI.

Straight up character import would be a bad sign IMO. It would indicate that the game isn't far removed from FFXI, which it really should be if they learned much from the last go-round.

An in-game bonus or something might be different. For instance, ability to access certain appearances only if you had an established FFXI character/account.

It has been rumored to be shown at Sony's conference for the past week and everything about it said PC/PS3, so no worries. Even at the Sony event, the guy specifically said PS3 was the only Console that would have it.

I think you guys are really grasping for straws with this connection thing.

a few points:

- the land is named Eorzea, not Vana'diel
- The "galka" has no tail, thus, is not a galka, they probably just used the galka frame as a reference to allow people to let "size" selection mean something.
- the elf is an elf. 3/4 of MMOs today have elves, and half of those have multiple kinds of elves.
- The hume looks like a FFXI hume, but so? Humans are humans, and it probably made for a good base model.

I sincerely doubt this will be FFXI-2. SE said that it would not be based off of FFXI. Thus far, none of the FF# series have been in the same world as any other FF# series. Obviously, none FF#'s have done so, but that's not the point. The trailer shows a very brief collection of shinies, just because there are a few vague similarities doesn't mean it will be FFXI-2.

Except if it were baby photos, it would be like looking at before and afters of Michael Jackson. Only instead of turning into a white guy, he changes into a chick!

It's still weird that the guy they showed looks very similar to the hume from FFXI.

Looks good anyway. I said I'd never play another MMORPG after FFXI but I may change my mind :P

Personally, I really, REALLY hope they don't allow transfers.

Why on earth would people want to move to an entirely new MMO and be immediately stuck in endgame, rich as hell, and dressed to the nines?

I cant wait to have that same feeling of creeping out into a completely new and unknown world that can smoosh me like a bug, just like crawling out of Windy so long ago.

The whole fun is the journey...

I agree. However it would be nice if older players got "Item X" as a thank you gift. Just a little something to give you a boost up.

Not that I think they would seriously do it, but no character transfers, please. Just imagine having to play with level 75 players in XI who had never played the game before but got instantly promoted because they had a lot of experience in, say, Everquest. This is a whole new game, and you need to learn and earn your way through like everyone else.

I have no idea why people would even want such a thing. What would be the fun in that? It's about the journey, people.

Now, some neat cosmetic bonuses for people with FFXI accounts would be a nice touch.

About the races in the trailer -- as others have pointed out, the resemblance of the big guy to a Galka is obvious. I couldn't see any tail at all though. I'm not sure what to think.

Visually, it's obviously a direct continuation of the FFXI style. Very exciting.

And god, guys. Don't be stupid. A character transfer in anything other than appearance and name won't be happening.

I could live with that.

And maybe something like our nation flag for mog house wall (just to remind us of old times)

Even if they do allow transfers, nobody's forcing YOU to use it. You can always start a new character. It took me years to hit 75, and now I have even less free time than I used to. If they don't allow some form of character transfer, that's a deal-breaker right there.

There is a scene that is clearly real time in that trailer. The boat scene has some washed out effects and the models have a lot less detail as well as drastically cut lighting system compared to the FMV in the later parts. The boat really reminds me of the selbina boat and instead of a small kraken we get a huge monster that flies over the boat XD.

The rest is definitely FMV. We will probably hear more about the game tomm. since there is a conference for SE tomm. at 11:00 AM PDT. I think we are going to see races earilly similar to FFXI races but with small changes in the details. I also hope they take the time to add some new races too :o

People pay 5000 bucks for a claim bot. They pay thousands of dollars for already leveled characters. They pay hundreds of dollars to buy gil to get items.

Do not underestimate the desire for lazy idiots to take the easy way out.

I wonder if FFXI players will be given the opportunity to beta test it or something, I'd so do it!

I love at the end where it says "join hands once again" Translation: You again need a group to do everything. Wait a couple years like for FFXI then release crap that you can do with 3 people. They still haven't learned...

LOL @ the same hair styles. See that hume M pic.

FFXI officially starts dying @ FF14 release.

what are you smoking, MMOs are about repeatedly killing the same stuff over and over again for a <1% chance for uber gear. Thats the only common theme among all MMOs.

That flying sea monster thing looks suspiciously like Leviathan, just a very very huge version of Leviathan.
